Kiss the Scumbag-Chapter 12
At the thought of those words, his hand clenched involuntarily into a tight fist. His nails dug deep into his palm, and only then did his reason return. To cool his head, he gulped down an entire glass of cold water.
Winston would never be deceived by him again. Never, under any circumstances. One act of foolishness was more than enough. If he were to fall for it twice, he might as well blow his idiotic head off with a gun.
Once the will was read, Yujin would leave.
It was the obvious conclusion. He had no reason to stay here. That meant they would never have to meet again. All he needed to do was endure until then.
Just once more. He only needed to see his face one more time.
That day, they would meet where everyone would be gathered. It would be completely different from meeting him alone, late at night, in a bedroom where Yujin lay defenseless. Could anything be safer? No animal would go into heat in broad daylight in front of so many eyes.
Besides, in this vast mansion, avoiding him would be easy. Winston, satisfied that all conditions were met, decided he would pressure the lawyer to hurry the will's release. Until that day came, he promised himself he would never face Yujin.
After confirming that Winston had left the mansion, Yujin emerged from his room with Angela and headed for the kitchen. He asked for something to eat, and after receiving simple bread and soup, they returned to their room. Only then, with their hunger somewhat sated, could they talk properly.
"Daddy, how long are we staying here?"
Angela asked after washing up and brushing her teeth in the guest bathroom. Feeling a sudden pang of guilt, Yujin hesitated and murmured vaguely.
"Well... The master of this house left a will when he passed. Apparently, my name is in it. So we came to hear what it says. Do you know what a will is?"
When Yujin asked, Angela nodded quickly and replied confidently.
"It's when someone leaves money when they die. That means we can get money too, right?"
"Uh... yeah. Something like that. Not every will leaves ★ 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 ★ money, but..."
Yujin faltered at his daughter's bold response but eventually nodded. She wasn’t wrong. That was indeed why they came.
"So we have to stay here until the will is read. It shouldn't take too long."
"How long?"
"Well... I'm not sure, but they’ll probably try to finish it quickly. So let's just wait a little. Okay?"
Everyone, especially Lady Camellia and the others, probably wanted Yujin gone as soon as possible. It was only natural the will would be read soon.
Winston, more than anyone, would want it over with and would likely push the lawyer to get it done fast.
Steeling himself before sorrow could consume him, Yujin reminded himself of his purpose. Just remember why you're here.
"Can we buy a house with a garden too? And raise a puppy?"
Angela asked with sparkling eyes. Once again, Yujin could only evade with a vague "Well...". Harold might have left Yujin’s name in the will as a way to atone, but it probably wouldn’t be anything grand. Honestly, Yujin only hoped for enough money to last about three months.
The only thing that weighed on his mind was Winston. After that humiliating incident the previous day, Yujin had made up his mind. Until the will was read, he would endure without confronting Winston. The thought of meeting him again was horrifying. Thankfully, avoiding him wasn’t difficult. In the morning, he could hide until Winston left for work, and in the evening, if he saw his car arrive, he could simply stay in his room.
And so Yujin did his best to avoid Winston at all costs. Fortunately, Winston left at dawn before Yujin awoke and returned only after Angela had gone to bed. Thanks to both sides' efforts, they never crossed paths. Finally, after three days, the day arrived.
From early in the morning, luxury sedans began arriving at intervals. The members of the Campbell family were gathering one by one to hear the contents of the will.
Just as expected.
Three days wasn’t a long wait. Considering he had braced himself for up to a week, this was quicker than anticipated. Winston had clearly pressed the lawyer, just as Yujin thought.
Now he could finally leave this place.
The reading of the will shouldn’t take more than an hour. After that, though there would be some formalities, they would surely be handled quickly. The lawyer would do his utmost to get Yujin out of here as soon as possible. free𝑤ebnovel.com
At most, he probably had a day left.
Yujin, looking out through the small window of his cramped room, watched as people stepped out of their cars, circling the grand fountain at the center of the garden. Unconsciously, he swallowed dryly.
"Daddy."
Angela, seemingly sensing his unease, carefully grabbed his hand. Yujin turned his eyes away from the window and smiled at his daughter. Whenever he thought of her, his fears melted away and courage swelled within him. This time was no different. He squeezed her hand, but just then, a knock came from outside.
When he turned his gaze, a moment passed before a woman's voice came through.
"Mr. Yujin Seol, are you ready? I will guide you to the study."
Finally.
Yujin took a deep breath, knelt down to hug Angela tightly, and kissed her on the cheek.
"I'll be back, Angie."
"Okay. Do your best, Daddy."
Encouraged by his daughter's support, Yujin left the room. The moment he stepped into the hallway and closed the door behind him, his smiling face vanished. The maid waiting a step away turned around coldly and began walking ahead without expression. Yujin straightened his back, exhaled deeply, and fixed his gaze in the direction she led.
Alright. Time to go. To the battlefield.
Without hesitation, Yujin quickened his pace, striding down the hallway, fully prepared to offer up his neck to the pack of beasts waiting to tear into him.
The minute hand moved again. Winston checked his wristwatch, then picked up the wine glass resting on the side table and brought it to his lips. Meanwhile, the rest of the Campbell family, already waiting in the study, sat stiffly, glancing anxiously at one another.
Lady Camellia sat upright as always, her eyes lowered, but inside, she was just as nervous as the others. All they could think about was one thing.
What had Harold left to Yujin?
Money? Stocks? Or maybe just some trivial keepsake. Whatever it was, today would be the end of it. Thinking that everything would soon be resolved without incident, Lady Camellia forced herself to smile warmly at her most cherished son.
"I'm thinking of throwing a party after this is over. What do you think?"
As if that was the signal, Gordon quickly spoke up.
"Yeah, it's about time we change the atmosphere around here. It’d be good to officially announce you're the head of the family too."
Despite being the eldest son, there was no hostility or displeasure in his tone. Though he had ambition once, he had long since given up. Neither his father nor his mother had ever allowed the other siblings any opportunities, and even showing desire had been forbidden. Naturally, they focused instead on squeezing out whatever crumbs they could.
In a way, it was a smart move. That’s why, except for Winston, all the children were eager to please their parents and prepared to do whatever was asked.
Winston, however, had always been different. From a young age, he was strong-willed and never backed down when he believed he was right. If that had been mere childish stubbornness, his parents would have excluded him without mercy. But Winston had always been sharp, and that intelligence had played a large role in his selection.
Because of that, he never needed to bend himself to gain their favor. The son who always satisfied them had only disappointed them once, and even that scandal had been swiftly corrected. In the end, their choice was not wrong.
However, for Gordon to so openly side with his mother even with Harold dead and the will about to be read, there was clearly another reason.
Winston, though, didn’t bother to think deeply about it. Then and now, his mind was on something else entirely.
