Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 506 Day 1
"The bedding and pillows are all new, there’s also a wardrobe here. I’ve prepared some clothes according to your size; they’re all inside the wardrobe. You can take a look later," Chen Nuo said.
He Xi nodded again, "Besides reading, do I really not have to do anything else?"
"Of course not, what is it that you’d like to do?"
He Xi shook her head. She didn’t actually want to do anything in particular; she just didn’t know how to respond in the moment.
She should just take things one step at a time. As long as she could be with Chen, it didn’t matter if there was nothing to do. Just being by his side was enough.
With that thought, He Xi slept in this small room that night, knowing that Chen Nuo’s room was not far away. She felt incredibly reassured by this proximity. Wasn’t this exactly what she had always dreamed of?
The next day, He Xi woke up early. When she opened her eyes and saw this unfamiliar place, she was initially stunned. It took her a while to realize that she was no longer in the mortal world but now at Chen Nuo’s restaurant.
There was a complete set of washing facilities in her room which Chen Nuo had shown her the day before.
After freshening up, He Xi came out from the washroom and thought that it was still early and she could go make a pot of tea for Chen.
While descending the stairs, she encountered one of the people she had met the day before already cleaning the courtyard. He looked up, saw He Xi coming down, and smiled at her, "You’re awake? Waking up so early, don’t you want to sleep a bit longer?"
"I’m preparing to make tea for Chen. Do you know where the woodshed is?" asked He Xi.
As the mention of the woodshed arose, the Great Roc was taken aback for a moment before realizing what He Xi meant.
He smiled, "Oh, you’re going to brew tea? No need to go to the woodshed, just head to the kitchen. It has everything you need. But don’t bother yourself; others who have made tea didn’t suit his taste. He only drinks a little to be polite when he’s outside. At home, he doesn’t drink it at all."
He Xi remembered that she used to brew tea for Chen Nuo every morning when she woke up. Although Chen always verbally declined, as soon as she offered him the tea, he would drink all of it.
So it was just politeness on the outside. He Xi lowered her head, feeling that she could understand why Chen Nuo didn’t want her to do anything. It was because what she did wasn’t what he was accustomed to, which could make him feel uncomfortable.
In the past, she had thought that doing more would make Chen happy, but now, it seemed she was only causing him unnecessary trouble.
"What’s wrong, Miss He?" the Great Roc noticed He Xi’s unhappiness and, not knowing what had happened, quickly asked.
He Xi smiled, "It’s nothing. I understand now. I’ll do what I should and not do what I shouldn’t."
"What kind of talk is that?" the Great Roc looked at her suspiciously, "Since Shopkeeper Chen brought you back with him, you’re part of our place now. As long as you don’t do anything to upset the Shopkeeper, you’re free to do as you please. As long as it’s not too much, anything is fine!"
With his frank demeanor, the Great Roc made He Xi feel much better. It seemed that she needed to interact more with this person with a strange appearance who was not as terrifying as he had seemed at first.
He Xi looked around and remembered the two people in the mortal world who had said they were Chen Nuo’s apprentices. Those two were quite cute. Since they were Chen’s apprentices, they should be living with him, right? Why hadn’t she seen the two of them this time?
"When I was in the mortal world, there were two people who said they were Chen’s apprentices. How come I don’t see them around this time?" He Xi asked.
"Two disciples of the shopkeeper?" Great Roc scratched his head, "No way, one of the shopkeeper’s disciples went back home to visit relatives and hasn’t returned yet, and the other one went to open a store elsewhere, he can’t possibly come back, were you tricked?"
"No way, it really was two people, one this tall, the other that tall, the slightly shorter one is quite thin, and his face is all fuzzy with hair, like a monkey, and then the taller one, very stocky, body full of burly muscles, a full face of stubble, and he talks in a very brash manner."
He Xi described it in quite detail, as soon as she did, Great Roc immediately realized who He Xi was talking about, he laughed and nodded, "Ah, so those are the ones you’re talking about. Indeed, one of them is the shopkeeper’s disciple, and like us, the other one is a fellow worker here."
"Ah?" He Xi looked around, "So my Chen’s business is really that good, huh? To need so many workers."
"The business is indeed good." Great Roc nodded.
"Then, which one is Chen’s disciple?" He Xi was a bit curious; she was very curious about what it took to be taken in as Chen Nuo’s disciple.
"I won’t say yet, guess it yourself, who do you think could be the shopkeeper’s disciple?" Great Roc asked with a smile.
If she had to guess, in her heart, she felt it was the taller one who seemed to be Chen Nuo’s disciple.
After all, he was very tall, and he seemed quite imposing in stature; she thought that he should be Chen Nuo’s disciple.
However, the shorter one wasn’t bad either; he was articulate and clever, which He Xi had witnessed. He was very good at saying nice things about Chen Nuo in front of him.
Unfortunately, she hadn’t really noticed before, but now thinking thoroughly about it, it seemed that only the shorter one called Chen Nuo "Master."
Thus, He Xi pretended as if she didn’t know, and after pondering deeply for a moment, she answered, "If I have to guess, it should be the one with the fuzzy face, right?"
Great Roc was a bit surprised; he thought that this young lady would guess Tian Peng, but she ended up getting it right, "How did you know?"
"I’m just guessing, I don’t know, wasn’t it you who asked me to guess?" He Xi countered.
"Then you’re quite something, young lady, I thought you would guess wrong," Great Roc said.
He Xi actually knew that Great Roc was trying to set a trap for her to fall into. Thankfully, she wasn’t easily fooled, or else she might have been completely bamboozled by Great Roc without already knowing the answer.
Chen Nuo came out from the kitchen and, seeing He Xi chatting with Great Roc, smiled and said, "Why did you wake up so early?"
He Xi originally wanted to say she was preparing to make tea for Chen, but remembering what Great Roc told her, she retracted the notion of making tea and shook her head, "It’s nothing, it’s just my first day in this place, I’m a bit restless, didn’t sleep well."
Great Roc said with confusion, "No, weren’t you just asking me where to make tea for the shopkeeper, how come you’ve changed your story now?"
He Xi was somewhat flustered and shook her head, "I didn’t say anything like that, you, you heard wrong."
"It’s not that, young lady, my ears are the sharpest in Chaos Residence, I know what I heard, you clearly asked me earlier about making tea for the shopkeeper, has laziness taken over, and now you don’t want to make tea for the shopkeeper anymore?"
"I didn’t." He Xi shook her head, "It’s because you just said Chen doesn’t like drinking tea made by others, that’s why I decided not to make the tea."
