Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 505: He Xi Meets the Three Demons
The courtyard of the Chaos Residence was adorned with decorations that were quite distinct, neither ostentatious nor understated.
In the center of the courtyard stood a tree, beneath which stone tables and chairs were placed, indicating that Chen Nuo likely often sat there.
"From now on, will you live here? Is that alright?"
When He Xi heard Chen Nuo speak, she looked up at him, "And what about you, Chen?"
"Of course, I’ll be here too," Chen Nuo replied.
"Is this your home?" He Xi asked, her thoughts drifting back to the small courtyard in the mortal realm, "Or will it be just like before, with you only staying with me for a while before leaving?"
"Certainly not," Chen Nuo said with a smile.
He Xi had already been brought up by him to be naive to the ways of the world. He took He Xi’s hand, "This is my home, no matter where I go, in the end, I will always come back here. Don’t worry, I absolutely won’t leave this place."
Hearing Chen Nuo’s response put He Xi’s mind at ease, "Then Chen, does that mean you’ll stay here all the time?"
"That’s natural, I’ve already said this is my home. If I don’t live here, where else would I go?" Chen Nuo said with a laugh.
Now He Xi was completely reassured; if that was the case, she could comfortably settle here.
She pointed at the two-story building ahead, "Chen, is that where I’m going to sleep?"
"Yes, I’ve already tidied up your room. I’ll take you to see it in a moment," Chen Nuo said.
As the two were talking, several people came out from the back courtyard. Seeing Chen Nuo made them very happy, and just as they were about to greet him, they suddenly noticed He Xi by Chen Nuo’s side, and they were very surprised.
The Roc Demon King covered his mouth and pointed at He Xi, "Shopkeeper, this, this is..."
"Is this our lady boss?" the Golden Roc King asked curiously.
"No, that can’t be, right?" Xiong Daoren closely observed the woman beside Chen Nuo, even contemplating using mana to check, but Chen Nuo stopped him.
Xiong Daoren took a step back in shock, "Can’t be, Shopkeeper, how long have you been to the human world, and you’ve already brought us back a lady boss? And she’s a mortal, a true genuine mortal?"
"What’s the problem?" Chen Nuo said somewhat speechlessly, worried they might scare He Xi. He stepped forward to stand in front of her, protecting He Xi behind him.
This action shocked Xiong Daoren even further. He gestured just like the Roc Demon King, "See, Shopkeeper, you’re even protecting her like that. She’s the one, our lady boss, right? Isn’t this against the heavenly laws? Immortals aren’t allowed to be with mortals!"
"What are you talking about!" Chen Nuo glared at Xiong Daoren, "I haven’t said anything yet, and you’ve already filled in the blanks with your imagination."
"You can’t blame us for imagining," the Roc Demon King said, "Just look at yourself, leading a young woman by the hand and bringing her here. Anyone would find that suspicious."
"Only you would be suspicious," Chen Nuo shot them a glance and pulled He Xi forward, "This is the child I’ve adopted in the human realm."
"Child!!" The Roc Demon King stepped back in surprise.
Chen Nuo knew what he must have misunderstood and immediately silenced him by sealing the Roc Demon King’s mouth.
"Time passes faster in the human realm than here. She was only nine years old when I adopted her," Chen Nuo explained.
Hearing this, the Three Demons immediately understood. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"This little sister, how old are you now, are you betrothed?" the Golden Roc King asked with a chuckle, "Shopkeeper, since she’s a mortal, wouldn’t it be better for her to live in the human world? Why did you bring her to the store?"
He Xi bit her lip and said nothing, silently listening to the conversation of the Three Demons.
It seemed that these three were the helpers Chen Nuo had hired; they called him shopkeeper in such a familiar tone, indicating that the restaurant must have been open for a long time.
Indeed, Chen Nuo coming to the human world to adopt her was just a coincidence.
"Don’t talk like that in front of the child," the words of the Golden Roc King were a bit hurtful, especially to a sensitive child like He Xi.
"But she doesn’t seem very young," mumbled the Golden Roc King after being scolded by Chen Nuo.
"Hello, you all, I’m He Xi."
It was after great internal struggle that He Xi decided to greet them. Feeling that she would have to live in this place from now on, she wanted to get along well with them and mustered a great deal of courage, breaking free from Chen Nuo’s hand to greet them.
Unexpectedly, He Xi had just finished greeting them and was about to introduce herself when Chen Nuo interrupted her.
"There’s no need to introduce yourself to them, they’re all here to escape death; you don’t need to bother."
He Xi was stunned, not knowing what to say.
Initially, Chen Nuo had only been worried that He Xi would be bombarded with questions by the Three Demons as soon as she arrived, which might make her uncomfortable, so he had spoken as he did; he hadn’t expected that it would be He Xi, not the Three Demons, who would be hurt.
He Xi’s eyes reddened, unsure whether to speak or remain silent.
Chen Nuo sighed softly and said, "It’s okay, if you want to introduce yourself to them, then go ahead. Say whatever you want to say, and if they say something unpleasant, I’ll scold them for you."
The Three Demons exchanged looks, thinking this was quite a double standard.
The Three Demons all looked fierce and menacing, just like the two who had come to find Chen Nuo in the human world before; they didn’t seem like ordinary mortals at all, tall enough that one had to tilt their head back just to make eye contact.
Just now, when Chen Nuo had scolded the Three Demons and told her to introduce herself, He Xi had decided to swallow back the words she was going to say.
The Three Demons didn’t dare to talk more, waiting for He Xi to speak up.
After struggling for quite a while, He Xi finally got her words together and introduced herself to the Three Demons.
Then Chen Nuo nodded his head, and without waiting for the Three Demons to reply, he walked on ahead with He Xi.
"Those back there are the tea trees I planted, along with others. If you ever feel bored, you can come here to relax," Chen Nuo said, pointing to the backyard.
He Xi nodded obediently. Although the tea trees were still in the ground, He Xi felt as if she could smell the fragrance of tea, which must be of the finest quality, the kind that even the emperor in the human world couldn’t taste.
"Chen, are you running a teahouse here?" asked He Xi. Seeing only the tea trees, she assumed it must be a teahouse. The tea looked to be of superior quality, surely the Immortals would love it.
"No, I run a restaurant," answered Chen Nuo. "But there’s really nothing much for you to do here. You should just read books and relax."
He Xi wasn’t someone who could remain idle; she was like this in the human world and naturally, nothing had changed.
Primarily, she felt that Chen Nuo was too kind to her; his kindness made her anxious. She hadn’t done anything, so why was Chen Nuo so kind to her?
It wasn’t too bad when she was busy, as it kept her mind from wandering off.
Now that Chen Nuo had brought her here from the human world, He Xi knew Chen Nuo wouldn’t have her do anything, but doing nothing at all really made her anxious.
"Let me show you to your room first." After showing her the backyard and feeling there was nothing more to introduce, Chen Nuo led He Xi upstairs to see her room.
