Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 507: Taking He Xi to the Heavenly Court Milk Tea Shop
Chen Nuo understood immediately; the Great Roc had nothing good to say and must have said something to make He Xi feel uncomfortable.
She had just arrived here, at a time when she was most sensitive—how could she not have suspicions after hearing those words?
"Xi, don’t listen to what he said. Come here, I made you some milk tea," Chen Nuo said, and a cup of milk tea suddenly appeared in his hand.
He had thought of this in the morning since he noticed something was off about He Xi’s expression yesterday.
This young lady seemed clever, but perhaps too clever. A little anomaly would make her overthink, a few instances still manageable, but if it persisted over time, constantly held inside, it could become uncomfortable or even lead to trouble.
Indeed, He Xi’s mood was somewhat sour. Seeing Chen Nuo come out and associating it with what the Great Roc had said, she felt the distance between them growing farther.
Now, seeing the milk tea in Chen Nuo’s hand, He Xi brightened up a bit and hurried over in quick strides, "Thank you, Chen, for the milk tea."
"Whenever you see something delicious, you cheer up, really just like a little girl," Chen Nuo said, stroking He Xi’s head out of habit before explaining, "Don’t listen to the Great Roc. I didn’t drink their tea because their tea-making skills aren’t good. I really like the tea you make."
He Xi looked up, biting the straw, "Really?"
"Of course it’s true. Why would I lie to you about something like that? As long as you make the tea, I will drink it all," Chen Nuo said gently.
Reassured by Chen Nuo’s certain expression, He Xi finally felt at ease. Chen was still her Chen, it was only the environment that had changed, not the person.
"By the way, Chen, two people came to see you back in the town, didn’t they? Why can’t I see them here?"
"Are you talking about Sun Wukong and Tian Peng?" He had actually overheard He Xi’s conversation with the Great Roc when he came over.
He Xi nodded, "One is your disciple and the other your partner. Why can’t I see them?"
"What’s wrong, they aren’t here right now, they are working somewhere else. Do you want to see them?" Chen Nuo asked.
"No, I was just curious. I hadn’t seen them before and thought they might be here like the others. Not seeing them now just seemed a bit strange," she replied.
"If you want to meet them, I can take you there," Chen Nuo considered. As long as they didn’t enter the South Heavenly Gate, staying outside shouldn’t pose any problems.
"I’m actually not familiar with them, and what if they disapprove when they find out I’ve come here?" He Xi inquired.
"What are you talking about? I’m the owner of this place. I brought you back here; there’s no need for anyone else’s approval. Besides, they don’t even know I’ve brought you here yet," Chen Nuo said, "How about giving them a surprise?" 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
A mischievous thought suddenly burst forth in Chen Nuo’s heart; he truly wanted to startle Sun Wukong and Tian Peng.
Particularly Tian Peng—he should be in a bad mood right now—bringing He Xi along would be perfect. This young lady was quite astute in adapting to circumstances, so having her liven up the atmosphere would be nice.
He Xi nodded, "Okay."
She was still wearing the clothes from yesterday, without having changed. The clothes suited her well, but they were a bit too plain.
Chen Nuo had previously considered her safety and didn’t want her to wear anything too fancy while tending the shop. Over time, He Xi had grown accustomed to this attire.
"That outfit won’t do. Anyone can tell it’s a mortal’s clothing at a glance. Go to the wardrobe and grab the pale yellow dress. As for the jewelry, it’s on the table. Take the set of silver-white hairpins and earrings," Chen Nuo instructed He Xi as he chose clothes for her.
If He Xi wore the clothes she had on, it would be immediately clear that she was a mortal.
He thought for a moment and decided to match He Xi with clothes that weren’t too extravagant; they just needed to not look too plain.
Obediently, He Xi returned to her room, dressed in the outfit Chen Nuo had described, and as she was putting on her earrings at the table, she caught sight of herself in the mirror. He Xi was quite surprised. Was that girl in the mirror really her?
Originally, she only wore simple hairstyles and looked quite ordinary, but with those accessories, she instantly caught the eye.
Even though He Xi had been conversing normally with Chen Nuo, a sudden, inexplicable shyness overcame her.
She tidied up her dress hem, then touched her hair, carefully adjusting it before stepping out of the room.
Chen Nuo was waiting downstairs, and when He Xi came down from upstairs, he raised an eyebrow.
He Xi had a good figure—slender waist and long legs. Although the wide-sleeved robe concealed her body, one could tell what she looked like just by looking at her face.
He Xi descended the last step. She really liked beautiful clothes.
But there was nothing to be done about it, as her work rarely gave her the chance to wear such clothes and hair ornaments. Now that she was dressed up, she felt somewhat uncomfortable.
"Chen, do I look nice?" He Xi asked shyly.
"You look nice," Chen Nuo replied. "It seems my skill in picking clothes is still rather good."
"Is it just the clothes?" He Xi pouted, slightly dissatisfied.
"Of course it’s because our little Xi looks good in these clothes, which reflects well on my taste in selecting them," Chen Nuo heaved a big sigh.
Having received the response she wanted, He Xi smiled contentedly. Her cheeks bore dimples when she smiled, making her look even sweeter.
The Great Roc King was still cleaning the courtyard. Hearing the conversation between Chen Nuo and He Xi, he took a moment to glance over and then uttered a word of admiration.
"Truly impressive. It’s beyond my imagination. Shopkeeper, if you hadn’t told me that Miss He was brought here from the mortal world, I might have thought she had just ascended," he said.
It was the first time He Xi had heard such high praise. She blushed and lowered her head, "It’s not that exaggerated."
Chen Nuo, however, was quite proud. "That’s exactly the effect I wanted."
He led He Xi to the entrance of the Heavenly Court. From a distance, He Xi saw a particularly long line, "Chen, what is this place? Is this the Heavenly Court? Why are there so many people?"
"This isn’t the Heavenly Court yet," Chen Nuo replied. "Do you see that gate over there, and the two celestial soldiers standing next to it?"
He Xi followed Chen Nuo’s gaze and indeed saw a gate where a number of monks in kasayas were coming and going. Not far from that gate was another one, under which stood two guards in armor.
"I see it," He Xi responded.
"Those two gates, one leads to Buddhism and the other to the Heavenly Court," said Chen Nuo.
He Xi nodded, then pointed to a place ahead where many people were lining up, "But Chen, what is that place? Why are there so many people queuing? Are all these immortals waiting to ascend to heaven?"
"There aren’t that many immortals waiting to ascend." Chen Nuo chuckled. "That’s a milk tea shop. It’s the same milk tea that I often bring you, and it’s a milk tea shop of the Heavenly Court."
He Xi was extremely shocked, "Chen, is this milk tea shop yours? You can actually own a shop in the Heavenly Court?!"
