The guy in the car immediately sensed what was going on and got down from the car but by the time he got down, she had already taken to her heels and dashed into the building.

He did not give chase but went to his partner to see how he was doing. He was knocked down cold.

Jane hid in a place for a while, fearing that there were more of them who would want to chase after her.

’Alexa, what sort of lunatic did you get yourself involved in?’ She wondered and greatly pitied Alexa. She was really going through a lot.

Suddenly, the door of the basement she was hiding in opened and she saw Maxwell. She recognized him to be one of Raymond’s people and got up.

"There you are." He said. "You hid quite well. It took me a while to find you."

"But you did in the end." She answered and got out, checking both sides to see if there was any pursuing personnel.

"Don’t worry, they’re dead." Maxwell said and she flinched before turning to him with a horrified expression. "Don’t look at me like that, I’m not the one who killed them."

"How did they die?" She asked.

"Hm, you’re oddly concerned for someone who almost got kidnapped." Maxwell said, scanning her face properly.

She simply clicked her tongue and walked on. It didn’t look like he was going to tell her so why bother with him?

Well, since those guys were dead, she was safe to come out now. Then, she remembered she left the kids.

"Hey, where are the kids? Are they safe?" She asked. "Please tell me they are."

Maxwell tilted his head a bit. Should he tell her?

"Why don’t you see for yourself?"

Maxwell took Jane to where the kids were being treated and as soon as she saw them, the shoes on her hand fell. She covered her mouth in dismay.

"What...what is this?"

They all turned to her. She wasn’t looking too good either. Her feets were red from running around bare for too long, hee hair was messy and her dress was completely ruined.

She ripped it while running to enable her free movement.

"What happened to you?" Paige asked.

"Forget about me. Just what... What happened to them? Why do they look like this?" She wanted to go closet but restricted herself. This was probably her fault.

They were in this shape because of her, right? Though they were sleeping soundly at the moment, it didn’t change the fact that they suffered. She gritted her teeth.

"It was done by a bitch who didn’t know her place." Paige answered but since their issue was settled, she was concerned about what happened to Jane. She turned to Maxwell. "What happened to her?"

"Serena kidnapped her." He answered cheerfully and Raymond flinched. He slowly shifted his gaze to them. "Well, not her in person but she sent some of her people, who are now dead, to get her."

Raymond lightly clenched his fists and let go.

"Did you kill them?" Paige asked Maxwell.

"No. As soon as I caught them, they shot themselves. I’m guessing they were ordered to do it." He answered honestly and Paige sighed in relief.

Then, she turned to Jane. She looked hurt. Probably feeling for the kids.

"Did you save her?"

"I didn’t. She was already safe when I found her. She’s such a good hider." Maxwell complimented and Jane turned away.

The expression she has on was miles away from the one she had on a daily basis. They hadn’t known each other long but she knew that Jane was a sunny person. So for such a sunny person to have such an expression, she must really feel angry.

"Who is she?" Jane asked. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

"Don’t worry. It’s already been taken care of." Paige said but Jane was too angry to listen to reasoning.

She marched out of there. No one knew what she was on about but they didn’t bother to follow her.

Paige sighed.

"Are you sure it’s safe to leave her like that?" Maxwell asked and Paige looked at him, confused. What did he mean? His smile looked like he was up to something.

It was suspicious.

But was there something about Jane that they didn’t know that he knew?

She shook her head and then turned to the kids. They were still fast asleep. This would be just enough time to go down and coordinate the people at the party, maybe assure them and get them to keep their mouths shut.

It wasn’t going to be easy but...

A sudden commotion coming from down at the party broke her from her thoughts. Maxwell grinned and Paige had cause to wonder if he indeed knew something.

She got out and Maxwell followed after. Raymond also followed but Steve stayed behind to stay with the kids.

He watched Romeo sleep and grazed the side of his eyelid that was torn. Maybe applying ointment continuously would take the scars away.

He clasped his hands together. He hoped it would. He, as well as Rachael, were too young to be having scars.

Paige and the others got to the party, only to find Jane attacking Serena.

"What the...?"

Skylar was trying his best to keep her away but Jane was awfully resentful and strong. She struggled and got out of Skylar’s hold a few times but she couldn’t get to Serena as Skylar would hold her back again.

"Let go of me. I’d rather kill this witch right now and end it here." Jane yelled. "It’s all because of her cruel schemes. She needs to die." She struggled.

Serena watched Jane break out and sighed. It was indeed Jane that had been caught at the time. She couldn’t contact her men so she assumed they were caught and had done as instructed.

Jane never looked like this in the past though. She always looked like a defenseless kitty, always smiling by Alexa’s side.

Well, there will always come a time where cats will need to bare their claws. This one was surprisingly no exception.

"Calm down." Skylar yelled at Jane but she was adamant on strangling Serena who was standing just a few feet from her.

She felt resentment. Hurt. Scared. This lady was dangerous and she was the reason her friend, as well as her daughter, was passing through all this.

All this pain.

"Let me go. I need to end her now before she causes any more damage. She’s done so much bad. She hurt Alexa. She hurt her too much. How much longer can we keep up with this?" She yelled.

People wondered if she was mad. Though they were a little aware that there was a lot of resentment between Raymond and Serena, what was with this lady?

Did she have any connection with all this? Or was she just someone who Serenahas ruined in the past.

She had a lot of dark history so it wasn’t a surprise.

"Jane." Paige called and Jane turned her head to her. Paige looked worried. This was no good. "You need to calm down."

"We can’t let her leave." Jane adamantly argued. "If we do, if we let her leave this place," tears slowly rippled down her cheeks. "...Who knows what she will do? Who knows?"

Though they knew Jane’s words were reasonable, they couldn’t catch Serena without any solid proof of her past crimes.

They could choose to kidnap her and do away with her but that would only stir up problems as Serena was no small figure. She had too many connections.

Serena suddenly chuckled and they looked up at her.

"What’s the matter?" She asked and casually picked up a drink from the waiter at the side. "I, that bad woman who made your life hell, am standing in front of you. Won’t you do anything to me?" She grinned.

Raymond walked up to them and stood in front of Jane.

"You have overstayed your welcome." He simply said.

"Oh? You’re driving me away now?" She chuckled and put down the glass. "Anyway, I have seen all there is to the great Raymond Stein so I’ll get out of your hair."

She turned but paused.

"Tell Alexa I said hi." She said and walked away wearing her smirk of victory.

"Why did you just let her go?" Jane yelled. "This... Do you know that you just made a mistake? You’ll regret it, Raymond Stein. You’ve just put Alexa in danger." She got out of Skylar’s grip and ran away.

Bare feet, she didn’t care that she was running on bare feet in front of all these strangers, all those dignified personnels. All she could think of was Alexa’s safety.

She ran upstairs to an abandoned room and locked herself in. She broke down and cried.

Being powerless was too much. If only she could do something to help Alexa. She came all this way to help but she got so excited and came to a party because she was given a dress.

How pathetic was she? She couldn’t even stay faithful to her friend and now, she was seeing her enemy and still couldn’t do anything.

They had been together for almost five years but this was all she could do. Cry.

"Why can’t I do anything? I want to help you so much, Alexa." She cried, her tears wetting the floor beneath her. "I really want to take the pain away from you but I... I just can’t seem to do it right. What should I do?"
