His Obsession Began After Losing Her-Chapter 25: Finding Shuri
Chapter 25 - Finding Shuri
"Rin... No... Don't, Rin!" Noran exclaimed as his eyes snapped open and his body instinctively jerked up from the bed.
"Call the doctor! Mr. Lee has awakened!"
Noran appeared to be disoriented, his eyes darting left and right as though looking for something or someone.
"Mr. Lee, how are you feeling? Are you alright?" the nurse asked with concern.
"Rin? Where's Rin? Where's my wife?" he asked anxiously, not caring about his own condition or where he was at that moment.
"Calm down, Mr. Lee. We don't know where your wife is right now. You have been unconscious for a week, and we need to get you checked," the nurse replied.
"A week? I was unconscious for a week?" Noran was shocked and quickly asked, "Then, what about Rin? What about my wife? Is she OK?"
"I don't know about your wife, Mr. Lee, but please stay calm. The doctor will be here in a minute to check on you, and we'll inform your family," the nurse tried her best to calm Noran down.
However, Noran couldn't stay calm as the scene of Shuri getting hurt by Lester and the warehouse suddenly catching fire flashed through his mind.
"No, Rin's in danger! I need to go find Rin right now!"
Noran insisted as he tried to get out of bed, but his legs felt weak, and he collapsed on the floor.
A doctor and more nurses entered his private ward, struggling to get him back on the bed.
However, Noran was stubborn and insisted on leaving the hospital to look for Shuri.
It left the doctor with no choice but to inject him with a sedative to calm him down.
Slowly, Noran's protests became quieter, and his eyelids grew heavy until he finally fell into a deep sleep.
"Ran... Please save Ran..."
In his dream, Noran heard Shuri's weak voice, begging someone to save him.
"I'll... give... you my abi..ility... save Ran... please..."
It was dark, and Noran couldn't see her, but her voice sounded so pitifully weak that it broke his heart.
Yet, she only cared that he was saved.
"No, Rin... Don't..."
Noran kept calling out to her, but his voice couldn't reach her.
To be precise, he felt as though his voice would never reach her again.
Then, her voice slowly faded away in the darkness.
"Ran... Noran!"
Noran's eyes snapped open at the sound of someone calling his name.
Disappointment filled his gaze as he realized it was Roy looking down at him.
"Where's Rin?" Noran's voice was hoarse as he asked the first thing on his mind.
He tried to get up, but Roy stopped him.
"Stay in bed. Do you want me to call the doctor to give you more sedative?"
"Roy, don't stop me. I need to go to Rin."
Despite feeling horribly weak, Noran remained stubborn.
"Even the police don't know where she is. How are you going to find her in your current condition?"
Roy couldn't help but tell him the truth.
"What do you mean? Rin is missing?" Noran asked in disbelief.
Roy sighed helplessly.
He had flown to Fushin as soon as he heard Noran was hospitalized.
He knew something bad had happened, but he didn't expect it to be this serious.
"Yes, when the police arrived, they found the warehouse on fire, and you were lying nearby unconscious.
We looked for your wife while you were unconscious for a week, but we couldn't find her. All we found were this bracelet and wedding ring from the burned-down warehouse..."
Roy took out photos of a bracelet and a wedding ring he had obtained from the police.
Noran's eyes widened in devastation as he recognized the burnt accessories Roy had shown him—they belonged to Shuri.
"So, although we couldn't find her body, the police believe she must have died in the..."
"No! Rin isn't dead!" Noran exclaimed, shooting Roy a deadly glare, causing Roy to flinch and step back in shock.
"She isn't dead. She must be waiting for me. I need to look for her," Noran added firmly as he once again tried to get off the bed.
"Listen to me, Noran. You're in no condition to leave the hospital right now. You may not have any visible injuries, but the doctor said your condition is abnormal.
They told me it looks like you've been hit by bullets, even though they couldn't find any wounds," Roy said, trying to dissuade his friend from doing anything reckless.
After hearing what Roy said, Noran suddenly remembered that Lester had shot him—once in the arm and once in a vital area while he was shielding Shuri.
He looked down and touched himself, shocked to find no visible injuries.
How could this be?
He clearly remembered getting shot, so why was he still alive and well?
While his Rin...
"I promise you I'll continue to look for your wife. Please just focus on recovering."
"How can you expect me to stay here and do nothing? My wife is missing..." Noran looked down as he uttered, sounding distressed.
Roy could only look helplessly at Noran.
It was his first time seeing his closest friend in such a distressed state.
In his memory, Noran had always appeared confident, never showing a hint of distress, even when he left the Kingston family and became penniless.
So, he wanted to help him as much as he could.
"Noran, leave this to me. You know I have some of the best intel. Give me some time, and I'll find Miss Shuri for you," Roy stated sincerely.
Noran kept quiet, his eyes devoid of life.
Then, the doctor and nurses arrived shortly after to check on him.
To Roy's relief, Noran didn't put up a fight during the check-up this time.
Roy left the hospital, determined to find more answers that could help locate Shuri.
However, to his dismay, he received a call from the hospital the next day informing him that Noran had gone missing.
"That stubborn guy..." Roy murmured to himself.
He should have known better than to trust that Noran would listen to him and stay still.
However, with the help of his intel team, he managed to locate Noran quickly.
Roy arrived at a secluded area where a burned-down warehouse stood, cordoned off by police tape.
There were no officers around, so Roy simply entered the restricted area and found Noran on his knees, digging through the debris.
"Noran! What are you doing here?" Roy shouted, running over to him.
Noran ignored him and continued to dig, his hands dirty and bloodied from the jagged debris.
He was relentless, his movements desperate and frantic, sifting through the ashes and rubble with injured hands.
Sweat mixed with the soot on his handsome face as he searched for any clue that could help him locate his wife.
He looked pitiful, his determination overshadowed by the hopelessness of his task.
Roy knelt beside him, gently grabbing his arm. "Noran, stop. You're hurting yourself."
But Noran shook him off, his voice breaking, "I have to find Rin."
Noran knew it was hopeless, but he had to look for clues to locate Shuri.
Where else could he start looking if not the last place he saw her?
"We found the men who took her," Roy broke the news to Noran, thinking that was the only way to make him stop hurting himself.
As expected, Noran stopped digging and finally looked up at Roy with widened eyes.
"You found them? Is Rin with them?"
Roy shook his head. "We only found the thugs who kidnapped her. They escaped the fire, but we managed to track them down and arrest them."
Noran looked disappointed that they hadn't located Shuri, but he tried to remain hopeful.
"Did they say where Rin is?"
Roy hesitated for a few seconds before answering, "No, they said they escaped without her and that she died in the fire."
"They're lying!" Noran shouted, his voice trembling with frustration.
"They must be working for Sophia Carters and my parents. They must have taken Rin!"
Like Noran, Roy also suspected that Sophia and Noran's parents were behind the kidnapping.
However—
"There's no evidence that they're involved. All the evidence points to Miss Shuri having died in the fire..."
"Rin isn't dead! That bastard who hurt Rin must know where she is..."
Noran clutched his bloody hand, wincing at the pain but refusing to stop.
His eyes were wild with determination and grief as he stood up.
"Where are you going?" Roy asked, seeing that Noran was ready to leave.
"To find that bastard..." Noran replied, his voice cold and unwavering.
Roy ran ahead of him and stood in front of Noran, blocking his path. "Wait."
"Move," Noran demanded, his tone low and dangerous.
Even though Roy was shaken by his friend's murderous intent, he stood his ground.
"Listen, Noran. That bastard you mentioned must be working for either your parents or Sophia. What can you do to him? You can't even prove they're involved with Miss Shuri's kidnapping. These are the Carters and the Kingstons we're talking about here."
"I'm not afraid of them."
"But you can't just take them on!" Roy exclaimed, his voice rising with urgency.
"This isn't like you, Noran! You need to think rationally about how to deal with them. Please, reconsider..."
"Rationally?" Noran retorted, his eyes blazing with anger.
"They took Rin! I can't just stay here and do nothing!"
"I'm not asking you to do nothing!" Roy replied, his voice firm but pleading.
"I'm asking you to plan, not blindly go after them. You'll get hurt, and what would your wife think if she found out you got hurt because of her? She would be devastated, right? You don't want to upset Miss Shuri, do you?"
Roy's question seemed to strike a chord, causing Noran to murmur, "Yes, Rin would be upset... She was crying when she saw me get hurt."
Roy smiled in relief, thinking he had finally convinced Noran.
"Yes, if you don't want Miss Shuri to cry, then you need to stay safe and think this through. We'll find a way to get her back, but we have to be smart about it. Let's come up with a plan together."
Noran seemed to have calmed down and no longer talked about rushing over to find those who had hurt Shuri.
However, Roy didn't realize that something inside Noran changed at that moment.
After that day, Roy lost contact with Noran.
Like Shuri, Noran went missing.
