Chapter 111: Chapter 111

Weeks had passed since the charity events. Despite that, the headlines were still filled with the raging news of Kai being the CEO of ED. Apart from that, news of the Blackwood total downfall also made waves in the news. Previously, it seemed they still had a chance to stand up, but somehow, they began to plummet rapidly. Investors were leaving, stocks were being bought for less than their actual value, and worst of all, one of their investment advisors ran a Ponzi scheme, defrauding investors of billions of dollars. That caused the company to totally liquidate and close its doors.

To the Cosgroves, they weren’t really affected much, as it seemed that whosoever was attacking them still left them with something to hold on to. But still, they dominated the headlines, as it came as a shock that Mason Cosgrove and his wife were getting divorced. The court, of course, awarded her half of his property, and after that, she just seemed to vanish into thin air. No one could find her again, though many assumed that she had probably gone to live a new life in a different country. This was a plausible reason due to all that had been happening and the fact that no missing report was filed concerning her.

For Amelia, everything seemed to go well. She had ensured Ray stayed with Grandfather Cosgrove, to be under his tutelage as the next heir. Everything was perfect , from her job to her love life with Kai, everything seemed to fall into place.

Everything, except for one persistent thorn: Lilac.

Despite blocking her, Lilac somehow found new numbers to call and text daily, sending flowers , always roses and lilies, to Liavenne every morning.

At first, Amelia had planned to ignore her entirely, but Lilac’s persistence had turned from mild annoyance into full-blown harassment.

And today was no different.

Sitting at her desk at Liavenne, Amelia’s phone vibrated for the nth time.

She didn’t even need to check the screen.

It was her again.

Lilac.

For a moment, Amelia considered tossing the phone aside but then she sighed, rubbing her temples tiredly, and finally picked up the call.

"What do you want, Lilac? You’re being a complete nuisance."

On the other end, there was a soft, wounded intake of breath before Lilac spoke, her voice trembling slightly, whether from real emotion or not, Amelia couldn’t tell. Neither was she bothered with knowing if it was real.

"Amelia... please. I—I just wanted to hear your voice once more," Lilac said, sounding quietly aggrieved. "I’m... leaving Country A. I’m going to meet my mother."

Amelia’s eyelids fell. So it was true, Eve left to start a new life after all.

Amelia remained silent as she continued to listen to Lilac.

"I just... wanted to see you one last time," Lilac continued, her voice seemingly as if she would cry. "I promise, after that, I’ll disappear. I won’t bother you again. I’ll erase myself completely from your life."

Amelia tapped her fingers lightly on the desk, considering.

"You promise?" she asked flatly.

"Yes," Lilac whispered.

A long pause stretched between them.

Amelia sighed, rubbing her forehead.

"Alright," she said finally. "Where?"

Lilac’s voice brightened immediately, with an eagerness that made Amelia’s stomach twist uneasily.

"I’ll send you the address of a restaurant," she said. "It’s quiet... it won’t take long, I swear."

Amelia nodded, even though Lilac couldn’t see her.

"Fine. Send it."

Without waiting for more conversation, she ended the call and dropped the phone onto the desk with a soft clatter.

Almost immediately, a message from an unknown number arrived , the same one that had called her. It contained the address of a ’small restaurant’ across the city.

Amelia stared at the screen for a moment, then without hesitation, composed a quick message to Kai:

"Going to meet Lilac. This is the address she sent me. I’m also sending my live location in case anything happens."

She hit send, watched the location-sharing icon activate, and locked the phone.

Leaning back in her chair, Amelia exhaled slowly, recalling the conversation she just had with Lilac. She couldn’t help but wonder why Lilac wanted to see her so badly but if it would make her stop disturbing her so badly... then she’d just go.

"Let’s see what you’re up to, Lilac," she muttered under her breath.

The car rolled to a slow stop in front of an aging, two-story building tucked between a row of dim shops and shuttered apartments. Amelia glanced down at her phone, checking the address again. This was the place but it was no restaurant.

Her brows drew together.

It was a residential building. A narrow staircase led up to a small apartment with peeling paint on the door. There were no diners, no lights. No signs of anything remotely like a public establishment.

Her gaze shifted and there, standing just outside the entrance of the apartment, was Lilac.

Dressed in a cream cardigan and pale jeans, Lilac looked strangely casual, her hands nervously twisting together before she raised one arm and waved, a smile plastered on her lips. She seemed quite excited, happy, and partly shocked as if she had never expected Amelia to actually come.

Amelia stepped out of the car slowly, her eyes locked onto Lilac’s. She didn’t return the wave , instead, on her lips was a little displeased frown. freewēbnoveℓ.com

She was displeased. She didn’t like getting deceived, after all.

Her eyes narrowed.

"This isn’t a restaurant. You lied to me."

Lilac’s smile faltered for a moment before she gave a helpless shrug.

"If I told you it was my apartment, would you have come?"

Amelia folded her arms with a click of her tongue.

"No," she said flatly. "And now I’m wondering why I still did."

Lilac looked down and then muttered, "I am sorry. I won’t do it again if you don’t like it."

Amelia looked at her for a moment and then walked past her.

"No need. There won’t be an ’again’, after all."
