Daoist Competition-Chapter 1063 - 271: Feng Haiyang (2)
Zhang Yan smiled and nodded, praised him a few words, then turned to Zhang Boyant and said, "Fellow Daoist Zhang, have you gained anything?"
Since Zhang Boyant was from the Nether Spring Sect, he did not force him to travel with Xu Daoist, only instructing him to continue investigating the Demon Sect territory.
Zhang Boyant first cupped his hands in a salute, then sighed and said, "Upon my return to the mountain, I found that quite a number of promising talents have emerged among the younger disciples of our Demon Sect."
His words carried both pride and regret. After entering the small realm, he had been out of contact and hadn’t returned to the Mountain Gate for decades. The sect had long assumed him to be dead.
Secretly investigating, he discovered that even his original Cave Mansion had been taken by a senior brother.
Fortunately, due to many years of wandering outside, he carried all his possessions with him and had no disciples under him, so he hadn’t lost anything.
After reflecting, Zhang Boyant put his thoughts aside and solemnly said, "Pavilion Master, when you go to the swordfight, extra caution must be taken with a few individuals." 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Zhang Yan focused his attention and said, "Please, Daoist Zhang, do tell."
Xu Daoist also listened attentively, as he too would accompany Zhang Yan this time, and might encounter these individuals.
Zhang Boyant spoke slowly, "I believe that Yan Huixin, a disciple of the Jiuling Sect, is someone the Pavilion Master should be wary of. This person has many avatars and acts mysteriously; even fellow disciples do not know his True Body. Although he is quite famous, when asked for details, no one knows anything specific."
Zhang Yan nodded slowly; he had interacted with Juuling Sect disciples several times.
The one who entered Qingcun Mountain with him that day, and later took the Ganoderma Ancestor’s Dong Jinzi, was one, and later the one who seized the Wolf King Spring and Cai De Yan’s body was another. These two both hailed from this sect, with cultivation that was unfathomable and difficult to gauge.
Zhang Boyant continued, "There is also Gao Ruowang of the Blood Essence Sect, who is also a tough character. I once had a duel with him, and because I had not yet mastered the Netherworld Escape Technique at the time, I fell into a disadvantage. However, a hundred years have passed, and I presume his cultivation has advanced further; if I encounter him again, I would still probably not match him."
He did not shy away from admitting his defeat and was forthright about being less skilled, appearing very candid.
Zhang Yan, having witnessed Zhang Boyant’s battle with Taiheng Ancestor back in the day, knew that although his Demon Skill was not exceedingly powerful, his fighting experience was unmatched by many. That someone could defeat Zhang Boyant required considerable caution.
Having said this, Zhang Boyant stood up, cupped his hands, and said, "This time the disciple from the Hun Cheng Sect is named Lu Muqiu. I have not heard of this person before, presumably a newly formed Nascent Soul disciple, as for the remaining Three Sects’ disciples, they are so tightly concealed that, forgive me, I couldn’t find out."
Zhang Yan laughed, "No matter, knowing about these three is already an achievement, Fellow Daoist."
At this point, Xu Daoist interjected a few questions, only to find that even though Zhang Boyant himself was a person of the Demon Sect, he still knew little about these individuals.
This was not due to intentional concealment, but because Demon Sect disciples often hid their own capabilities very deeply, and no one knew their true means, usually only inferred from their sect’s Cultivation Techniques and Divine Skills.
However, with the onset of the Demon Tribulation, spiritual energy surged in the Demon Cave, enabling the cultivation of many ancient secret Demon Skills, so this inference was no longer as effective.
Xu Daoist thought for a moment, then looked at Zhang Boyant with a half-smile, "Why didn’t Fellow Daoist Zhang mention your Nether Spring Sect? Perhaps there are concerns, unwilling to speak about it?"
Zhang Boyant sneered, "Daoist Xu, don’t try to provoke me, there’s nothing unspeakable. Although I haven’t found out exactly who from our Nether Spring Sect is going to that Sword Fighting Conference, it will most likely be Feng Haiyang. If by seniority, he is my junior nephew, far superior in cultivation to me, but who knows to what extent his cultivation has reached now."
Daoist Xu did not believe him, pointing and laughing, "I’ve seen your abilities, Daoist Zhang, and your words sound a bit like flattery."
Zhang Boyant seemed disinclined to argue, and plainly said, "Let me tell you one thing: do you know Ban Shaoming of the Shaoqing Sect?"
Daoist Xu frowned, then seemed to remember something, and said solemnly, "Such a person, how could I not know? He is the junior brother of Qing Chenzi. It is said that in the last Sixteen Sects Sword Competition, if not for his inexplicable disappearance, he should have gone to the Sword Fighting Conference. Later, Qi Yuntian and Qing Chenzi had an excellent battle, which established their reputations."
Zhang Boyant chuckled, "What disappearance, let me tell you now, he was dueling my junior nephew Feng Haiyang, and after a day and night of battle, was killed at the foot of Five Extremes Peak by my junior nephew, who devoured his blood and flesh, not even letting his Primordial Spirit escape. That’s why he didn’t make it to the Sword Fighting Conference. It’s only because the Shaoqing Sect would have gone mad afterward and sought trouble with my Nether Spring Sect, that this matter was covered up; even among our cultivators, few know."
Daoist Xu took a cold breath and said, "Truly?"
Ban Shaoming was a famous figure back then, reaching the Nascent Soul Realm in over one hundred sixty years of cultivation, and practiced the Sword Transformation lineage of the Shaoqing Three Veins, able to unleash a myriad of sword lights in battle, unstoppable and overwhelming, solitary and proud by nature, secretly the foremost among that generation of disciples from the Sixteen Sects. To think he would actually die at the hands of Feng Haiyang.
Daoist Xu wiped the cold sweat from his brow, seemingly suddenly remembering something, and asked, "Old Demon Zhang, such a powerful figure, why was he absent from the last swordfight?"
Although not from the East Splendor Continent, he knew that the Sixteen Sects Sword Competition always sent their most powerful disciples of that generation.
Zhang Boyant just sneered silently.
Zhang Yan smiled slightly and said, "Certainly, the Six Demon Sects had plotted for today centuries in advance, thus laying low and not sending out their talented disciples to the field."
The Demon Sect had been suppressed by the Xuanmen for thousands of years, and if they exposed their strength too early, those disciples would have likely been eliminated by the Xuanmen first.
Zhang Yan’s eyes flickered, as he understood very well that this swordfight was different from the past; it was the first direct confrontation between the Xuanmen and the Demon Sect since the onset of the Demon Tribulation. The individuals he was about to meet were all extraordinary talents of the Six Demon Sects preserved for hundreds of years.
