After Betrayal: Lightning Marriage to Mr. Enigmatic-Chapter 939: I Want You to Be Mine
Zoe Lewis hugged a heavy bag of money, feeling the pressure on her shoulders suddenly increase.
Mrs. Zuo was such a nice person, so eagerly hoping she’d become her daughter-in-law. When she finds out that Zoe was only pretending to like Zuo Hong to dig up gossip, she’d definitely be heartbroken.
She picked up the money and shoved it towards Zuo Hong. "I can’t accept this meeting gift, it’s for you."
"Okay."
Zuo Hong nodded, put the handbag back in the trunk, and turned to look at her. "Get in the car. Aren’t you leaving?"
Zoe stood there, staring at him in disbelief. "Aren’t you refusing at all? You just took the money back like that?"
"Why should I refuse?"
"You should at least politely decline!"
"Isn’t it my family’s money?"
Zoe gritted her teeth. "Yes!"
"Then what’s wrong with taking it back? Didn’t you voluntarily give it back?"
Zoe was left speechless by his words, feeling a bit pained about the huge meeting gift.
She even gave Mrs. Zuo a goldfish worth a hundred thousand, thinking she could break even, but ended up with nothing!
Just as Mrs. Zuo said, Zuo Hong was really stingy, he could have at least given her a stack of money to make her happy!
Fuming, Zoe got into the car, slamming the door with a loud "bang."
Zuo Hong watched her painful expression with a hint of a smile on his lips. Once inside the car, the smile quickly vanished, replaced by a distant calm.
He had clearly promised Evan Lewis not to bully Zoe anymore, yet he couldn’t control himself and ended up teasing her again.
The car slowly moved forward. The girl in the passenger seat was still pouting in anger, face long and looking out the window, ignoring him completely.
Her side profile was very pretty, with a full forehead, slightly upturned nose, and delicate chin, with a bit of round, cute charm. Unlike those Instagram-famous faces, her face was actually quite distinctive.
Zuo Hong looked at her for a moment, then withdrew his gaze and spoke in a calm voice. "How many of my secrets did you manage to ask from my mom today?"
"I asked them all!"
"And then?"
"And then what?"
"What do you intend to do by finding out so much about me?"
With a heated brain, Zoe blurted out, "I want you to be mine!"
Zuo Hong glanced at her. "Do you really want to marry me? Sure, let’s do it tomorrow. It’s too late today, the civil affairs bureau is closed."
He talked about getting married as casually as if he were talking about dinner, clearly not serious.
Zoe, furious, slapped her thigh. "Who wants to marry you? I meant for you to be my mole!"
"Who do you want me to monitor?"
Zoe bit her lip, staying silent.
She wasn’t confident yet that she could make Zuo Hong work for her; it was too early to speak of it.
"Do you want me to monitor President Lewis?"
"No, I don’t!"
Zoe looked shocked. How did he guess it!
Zuo Hong smiled faintly.
It was simple, really. She went to such lengths to dig up his secrets, trying to control him. The person she needed him to monitor must be someone beyond her reach, someone he wouldn’t want to surveil.
This person could only be Harry Hunter, it couldn’t possibly be the bodyguard, David, right?
"Did President Lewis ask you to do this?"
Zoe was even more alarmed. "No! It has nothing to do with my dad, don’t drag him into this!"
"I didn’t think it was him anyway."
Zuo Hong was well aware of Evan Lewis’s character. He was a little timid, a bit cowardly, but relatively loyal. One, because he feared Harry Hunter’s power, he could only remain loyal. Two, he was grateful for Harry Hunter’s help and naturally sided with him.
