After Betrayal: Lightning Marriage to Mr. Enigmatic-Chapter 940: Bullying Her Is Quite Fun
Moreover, Evan Lewis really had no need to monitor Harry Hunter. Asking a secretary like him to monitor Harry was doubly foolish.
Evan Lewis didn’t have any great talents, but he was somewhat clever; he really wasn’t that foolish.
Ryan Zuo thought about it and uncertainly asked her, "Is she your cousin? Did she force you to ask me to monitor our CEO?"
Zoe Lewis was taken aback.
His logic made a lot of sense!
He really is smart!
She hadn’t even thought of that excuse, yet he thought of it for her!
"It’s her. She has been pushing me all along, and she even wants to break up Young Master Hunter and Isabella. She’s not a good person!"
Ryan Zuo nodded, "I see."
His tone was so calm that it was impossible to discern his emotions, leaving Zoe unable to determine whether he believed her or not.
She tentatively asked, "So would you be willing to be my informant? Just providing me with trivial information would suffice, like who Young Master Hunter had a meal with and what they ate. I don’t want the company secrets, and I can pay you for it."
"Do you think I’m short on money? Any casual gift from my mom is worth 600,000. Do you think I’d need more money?" 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Zoe Lewis felt immensely discouraged.
She knew from the beginning that Ryan Zuo came from a wealthy family, which made her task seem incredibly difficult.
She had once bribed Secretary Fisher to provide a bit of Harry Hunter’s whereabouts. Secretary Fisher’s weaknesses were one factor, but a significant reason was that Secretary Fisher’s family was poor; she had elderly and frail parents and young siblings needing money for various things. Even with her high salary and bonuses at the Star Region Group, it was still a stretch.
"Then what am I supposed to do? If you don’t provide me with information, my cousin will kill me."
"What does your being killed have to do with me?"
"Wow! Do you even have a heart? Refusing to lend a hand when I’m in trouble, aren’t we friends?"
"Of course... not."
Ryan Zuo deliberately paused, seeing the light of hope in Zoe’s eyes, only to suddenly change course.
He played a little joke on her, enjoying the way she glared at him puffed up with anger.
Teasing her was actually quite fun.
He might end up going back on his word to Evan Lewis.
Zoe Lewis hadn’t expected Ryan Zuo, who rarely talked to her, to joke around like this. Heartless man, snatched her 600,000, planning to take her to get a marriage certificate one moment, and then saying it wouldn’t matter if she got killed the next. No wonder he couldn’t find a girlfriend!
She totally forgot that the 600,000 was something she herself stuffed into his hands, and it originally belonged to him anyway.
Zoe cursed Ryan Zuo a hundred times in her heart. When she got home, she opened the car door and walked straight inside without looking back.
In the dim light, suddenly his voice rang out.
"Zoe Lewis."
The sound was clear and pleasant, striking straight to the heart.
Zoe stopped walking and turned back, "What?"
The voice was even more melodious, tinged with a faint emotion, revealing his apology, "Yesterday, I’m sorry."
"Hmph."
Zoe snorted lightly, not showing a good face, but feeling quite happy inside.
At least there’s still some humanity.
She walked on lightly, so happy that she wanted to sing along the way.
Ryan Zuo sat in the car watching her silhouette disappear into the depths of the Garden Estate before slowly turning his gaze away.
He knew she was happy. When she was happy, she walked briskly. When she wasn’t happy, her steps were slow and dragging.
He turned the car around and drove back to the Zuo family home.
As soon as he entered, he saw his parents huddled together admiring a small dragon crafted entirely from gold.
