Chapter 98: Chapter 98: So What If I Hit You?

"What else could it be? I knew it. Even though you married my brother, you’ve always been hung up on Adam. Hmph, you’re shameless. Has my brother not been good to you? Why would you do such things behind his back?"

"Don’t try to sidestep the issue with me. Why I went to see Adam, I believe you know. May scoffed coldly, and unceremoniously exposed her, ’That day you contacted me using Adam’s account. You asked where I was, and you saw the photos of me and your brother, didn’t you? Maxwell, did you tell your grandfather our exact location? Did you?"

Saying this, May suddenly became agitated. She stood up abruptly from the sofa, walked straight to Maxwell, and glared down at her, furiously questioning, "Why is Adam not eating or drinking? Is it because of me? Or is it because of you? You know in your heart what you did behind his back."

"I... I don’t know what you’re talking about." Maxwell, intimidated by May’s imposing and questioning stance, hurriedly grabbed a pillow next to her and held it close, trying to look innocent as she glanced elsewhere.

"You don’t know what I’m talking about? Really? Maxwell, I used to know you as a spoiled heiress with a bad temper, and we didn’t have much hatred between us, so I didn’t want to argue with you. But now, because of your selfishness, you’ve implicated my grandma, do you know that?"

Thinking of her deceased grandmother, May really wanted to strangle this woman. If it weren’t for Vincent, she might have already stabbed her in the heart, taking her to accompany her grandma in the afterlife.

Maxwell stepped back repeatedly under May’s questioning, suddenly feeling at a loss and stuttering as she tried to defend herself, "May, stop spouting nonsense. Your grandma wasn’t killed by me. What does it have to do with me?"

"It’s not you who killed her, but you’re related to it. If you hadn’t exposed my whereabouts, how would I have invited a deadly attack? Maxwell, it’s fine for you to hate me because of Adam, I allow you to hate me. But at that time, I was with your brother; what if those people had killed him too? Do you always handle things so recklessly? Are you an idiot?"

"You’re the idiot!"

Maxwell had always been overbearing and couldn’t bear being chastised. She suddenly stood up from the sofa in shame and anger, and pushed May with her hand.

May, off guard, was pushed and fell to the ground. The maid beside her quickly came to help her up, "Madam, are you all right?"

It wasn’t a heavy push, so May just fell without injuring herself. The maid couldn’t bear it any longer and scolded Maxwell, "Miss, how could you push the young madam like that? Don’t you know she is already pregnant? What if she gets hurt and it affects the baby, how will you explain it to the young master?"

Maxwell looked at May in shock and then quickly glanced at her stomach, her voice full of surprise, "You, you’re pregnant?"

May instinctively touched her belly, then nodded, "Yes."

"Is it my brother’s?" Maxwell asked casually, without much malice, but it sounded like she was questioning May’s fidelity to Vincent.

"What do you mean?" May glared at Maxwell, rebuking her sharply, "I only have your brother as a man. If not his, then whose?"

Maxwell was embarrassed by May’s question and mumbled awkwardly, "Weren’t you always trying to meet Adam during that time? Who knows..."

"Maxwell!"

Before Maxwell could finish, May’s face suddenly turned cold, and she threatened her angrily, "I warn you, you can insult me, but if you dare to insult the child in my belly, I won’t let you off!"

When Maxwell’s temper flared, she didn’t care about anything and said whatever came to mind. Hearing May’s relentless threat, she retorted even more venomously.

"What do you think you are? My brother only married you because you had the Jade Pendant. Do you really think you’re that charming? So what if I insult you? So what if I insult what’s in your belly? A clear conscience fears no shadow. If you’re truly worthy of my brother, I wouldn’t say such things. Who knows what’s in your belly? Whether it can even be born!"

"Slap!"

Just as Maxwell finished her curse, May slapped her across the face. She could bear insults herself, but her child was her bottom line.

The slap sent Maxwell flying, and even May was surprised by her strength. She hadn’t expected to hit Maxwell so hard.

Fortunately, Maxwell landed on the nearby sofa, preventing her from getting hurt. However, her half face was immediately swollen, and blood trickled from the corner of her mouth.

"Bitch, how dare you hit me?" Maxwell held her swollen face, suddenly went mad, and lunged at May.

The maids saw this and hurriedly came forward to drag Maxwell, pulling her away forcefully, for May was pregnant and couldn’t afford to be hit. If Maxwell’s strike caused harm to the baby, they’d all be in trouble.

"Bitch, you dare to hit me? Even my brother wouldn’t touch me, yet you dared to hit my face?" It took several maids to finally restrain the furious Maxwell without letting her touch May.

If May hadn’t been provoked by Maxwell’s venomous words, she wouldn’t have hit her. But since she did, she didn’t plan to regret it.

"So what if I hit you? Your mouth was so foul, so venomous, I hit you right in the mouth. I warn you, if you dare to insult the child in my belly again, I’ll do more than just slap your face, do you believe it?"

May lifted her head defiantly, glaring at Maxwell as if to say, "What can you do to me?"

Maxwell, having never been touched a single finger before, found today unbearable as she not only got hit but hit so severely. She couldn’t swallow this insult.

But at Zenith Villa, everyone was May’s people. If she wanted to retaliate, she probably wouldn’t have the chance.

"Just you wait, I’m going to my brother to complain. I will let him know how vicious you are!"

Crying and covering her obviously swollen half face, Maxwell hurriedly fled from Zenith Villa.

Seeing that the young lady had left, the maid beside May kindly advised, "Young Madam, this young lady is notoriously capricious and willful. Besides, the young master especially dotes on his sister. From what I see, even though today’s dispute was the young lady’s fault, she won’t hesitate to twist the facts in front of the young master. Why don’t you call the young master first and explain what happened, so there won’t be any misunderstandings?"
