Chapter 99: Chapter 99: I Asked My Brother to Avenge Me

May Morgan glanced coldly at the entrance of the villa, but stubbornly said, "I won’t call. My phone is broken."

The broken phone was just an excuse. With so many landlines at home, couldn’t she just call Vincent Vance? The servant saw May’s stubborn temper flare up and quickly and kindly took out her own phone to give to her.

"Madame, you’re pregnant now; you can’t risk upsetting the baby. Everything should be focused on the child. If the young master misunderstands you, he might punish you, and that wouldn’t be good for the baby, right?"

The servant’s earnest persuasion finally moved May a bit. She took the phone from the servant, found Vincent’s number, and was about to call him, but on second thought, she suddenly returned the phone to the servant.

"What’s the matter, Madam? Go ahead and call. If you keep hesitating, the young miss might already be at the company." The servant urgently persuaded May.

May sighed with some frustration, stood up from the sofa, and went upstairs to lie down.

"If he cares about me, he’ll come back and ask what’s going on before deciding to punish me. If he punishes me without asking anything, there’s no need to continue this marriage."

If there’s not even basic trust between a couple, what’s the point of continuing?

It’s not that May is stubborn, nor is she being dramatic. She simply wants to see how much she really matters to Vincent as he always claims.

When Maxwell Vance arrived at the company, Vincent Vance had just finished an important meeting and returned to his office. The way he regained his position as the president of the Vance Clan was somewhat unbelievable.

He originally thought Logan Vance would confront him fiercely at the meeting, perhaps even fight him to the very end. However, as soon as the shareholders’ meeting began, Logan took the initiative to return the position of president to Vincent. He kept humbly telling everyone that compared to Vincent, he was worlds apart and simply couldn’t handle the responsibility.

His sudden withdrawal surprised even the old man, Arthur Vance, who was so angry his face turned blue. It was clear that Logan hadn’t communicated this with Arthur beforehand, and his decision to step down was entirely his own.

If not for Arthur’s insistence on keeping the vice-presidential position for Logan, after this, Logan probably would have returned abroad to continue being an overseas general manager.

Arthur strongly supported Logan, refusing to let him leave the country, showing clearly that he hasn’t given up on May.

Although the outcome was relatively satisfactory, Arthur’s attitude during the meeting deeply worried Vincent. Although he had regained the Vance Clan, Logan hadn’t left; he simply retreated to the second-in-command position, and Arthur hadn’t surrendered his shares, so Vincent still faced considerable challenges.

With Arthur unwilling to let go, May remains in danger. This is what troubles Vincent; on one side is his family, and on the other is the woman he would sacrifice everything to protect. He’s caught like a sandwich, torn in different directions.

If Arthur were an outsider, he could use extraordinary measures to deal with him, but unfortunately, he’s his grandfather, a family member who watched him grow up.

When Maxwell came to Vincent’s office, clutching half of his face, Vincent was already irritated. As Maxwell pushed open the door and entered, she began to cry out, "Brother, look at how I’ve been beaten? My face is swollen; you have to avenge me!" 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

Vincent walked up to Maxwell, looked at her swollen face in disbelief, and asked, "Who beat you like this? Adam Owens?"

Judging by the strength, it was undoubtedly a man who did this, and only in a man’s rage could this happen. Vincent already had grievances against Adam, and seeing his sister beaten like this, he was instantly enraged, ready to seek revenge on Adam.

Maxwell was so scared she quickly grabbed Vincent’s arm, explaining, "It wasn’t Adam; it was May Morgan who did this to me."

Tears streaming down her face, Maxwell pointed to her swollen face and explained to Vincent, "I kindly went to see May to reconcile. Even if we couldn’t become friends, we didn’t have to be enemies. But she slapped me without a word, calling me cheap, saying that Adam doesn’t like me, and I deserved it."

When Vincent heard it was May who hit her, most of his anger dissipated. He narrowed his eyes, looked closely at Maxwell’s face, and suddenly said coldly, "Maxwell, don’t talk nonsense. How could May have such strength?"

Hearing this, Maxwell became angry and stomped her foot, pouting, "Brother, how can you side with an outsider? Do you think I’d lie to you? If you don’t believe me, call your servant and see if she hit me."

Vincent knew May wasn’t the type to provoke others for no reason. Even if she did hit Maxwell, it must have been something Maxwell said that provoked May enough to take action.

But looking at the marks on Maxwell’s face, if it really was May who did this, her strength must be considerable.

"Alright, I’ll call home and ask what happened." In front of Maxwell, Vincent quickly dialed the home phone to inquire about the situation.

The servant didn’t dare lie and faithfully reported how the two argued, what hurtful things Maxwell said to May, and how May ended up hitting Maxwell.

After hearing the servant’s report, Vincent asked with some concern, "How is the madam? Is she okay?"

The servant promptly replied, "The madam isn’t in a good mood. After the young miss left, she went upstairs to rest."

"Check on her condition. Pregnant women should avoid getting agitated. Make sure she doesn’t upset the baby; I’ll return home shortly."

After instructing the servant, Vincent hung up the phone and glanced at Maxwell, remaining silent.

Maxwell had come to seek her brother’s support, hoping he would stand up for her. So after Vincent hung up, she quickly approached him, whining, "Brother, you have to stand up for me. I’ve never been hit like this before. Why did May hit me?"

"Why? Because you cursed the child in her belly, you deserved to be hit!" Vincent suddenly glared at Maxwell, his voice icy cold.

Maxwell was startled by Vincent’s words, staring at her usually doting brother in disbelief, and stubbornly asked, "Brother, what do you mean? I’m your real sister. Who is she? How can you side with her?"

"Who is she? She’s my wife, the woman I’ll protect with my life. Maxwell, I used to tolerate your bad temper because our parents died early, but you need to know your limits. Watch what you say and do!"

"What did I do?" Maxwell’s face tensed, quickly defending herself.
