You Think I Won't Talk?-Chapter 688
Attending the summons did not seem as dangerous for Sverre did not act differently nor suspiciously when they crossed paths fortuitously. What was more, a significant stare that appeared confident of his grasp over her loyalty showed in him.
Theressa’s arrival at his doors was quietly welcomed by their doubtless opening. For a sole second, she remained in place to then enter and bow elegantly indifferent to the waiting eye of the third prince.
"Good night, your highness."
"... my lady Theressa, good night. You have arrived quickly... it pleases me."
"Your summons surprises me after so long."
"Does it intrigue you?"
"A lie it would be if I said it does not..." — The man had stood to come closer, pacing until his frame was right before her and listened to her answers while taking a strand of her hair again in his hand. Making her brow twitch in discomfort. — "His highness appears fond of my hair."
"... you sisters truly are something." — He muttered, still taking in her scent while not minding her comment and dropping the strand composed as he turned away to light his tabaco.
"Pardon?"
"I have a task to give you." — Sverre said while puffing smoke with a deep frown. — "It will become busy here. Shortly. It is a tad annoying for it will be a lot of work but the benefits are worth it."
"What is this task you have for myself?"
"Haaa... you must hold back your sister from leaving this palace."
"... what for?" — Given the sigh he released after meeting her eye before giving the order, Theressa asked. Aware that it could not be as simple as that. — "I should know the purpose this time. Being in the dark may hinder your plans, your highness, for I might take my own decisions based on the little I know." 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
"... at times you say quite interesting things my lady Theressa." — Sverre smiled. — "If you don’t do it, we won’t be able to kill her as planned. That is why you must."
"... so suddenly? Won’t it make the people alarmed if it happens at the palace—"
"It won’t if it is because we were under attack and she ’dies’ at the enemy’s hands... Right?" — His purple shone as he expected no answer to it. Watching the silence she kept while remaining unfazed even though she feared the schemes.
After a moment, Sverre straightened, telling with the hand holding the tobacco that she should come to him and Theressa did so. Hesitating for a second, but overcoming the doubt at the confidence he wore... one that somehow placed some ease within her.
"... is it that you are afraid that you show no delight?"
"The task is sudden."
"... I asked if you are afraid, woman." — He demanded lifting her chin so her golden eyes would stare into his. — "What you decide will keep you alive after all."
"... as much as I desire my victory, killing a sibling is still difficult to be so comfortable with." — She retorted, taking away her visage. — "Even so, it does not change my wishes."
"Are you certain?" — Proud he asked. Ordering with a gesture a man’s approach. — "Your actions say otherwise, my lady."
"?"
"... you see, I have a few questions. Although I do not have time to make every single one of them. Therefore it is best if I show you." — Taking the bag the man brought with him, she noticed the wet dark bottom but later its cause was shown... gruesomely. — "You must recognise this face even while swollen."
".?!... that’s L... Louisa..."
"The note you gave her did not arrive thankfully. You must know why that is the case with this... extraordinary example." — Saving it, he released the maid’s hair, clapping as if to shake the dirt off his hands and wiping them with a handkerchief he dropped as if trash. — "I ask you again. Are you certain of what your wish is?"
Panic could have governed Theressa easily. Not long ago, the maid had smiled at her and promised to come back successfully, making her laugh while assuring that there was no need to feel concern over her safety.
— My lady, I have become resilient! A task like this will not make me break a sweat! —
’Louisa...!’ — She hurt, thinking of how unfair this end was for the girl. Yet knowing that not only her life but many others were in danger if she did not control herself... even though tears would not be able to be hidden as they were already falling.
"Certain I am!!" — Enraged and seemingly offended Theressa retorted to the cold third prince. — "In order to keep Marianne confident of my loyalty I sent such a note!! What I would tell her later would of course differ from the truth!! Had I known how shortsighted you were, my close maid and accomplice would not be dead!"
"... my, is that how it is?"
"Of course! Such a waste this is! Louisa has served me ever since I can remember, this is such an upsetting matter, Prince Sverre! Such a competent maid, do you think it is easy to train?! To even attain?!"
"I see... I will give you a new one later." — He said aloofly. Wiping off with his thumb the tears from her scowl. — "You shouldn’t cry over this, my lady."
"Do not touch me so casually! Who are you to do that!? Why do you—!?"
*Rumble!*
"Ah... it is almost time." — Interrupted by the earthquake the witch’s army made, Sverre looked outside. Making sure that his fingers did touch Theressa’s tears a moment ago, licking the fingertip as if glad of the water remaining. — "My lady, you should go and achieve your task."
"... what... how did they...?"
"Lady Theressa, do not get distracted with that. Go and do as I told you."
"... Alright. I am leaving then." — Knowing it was the best, Theressa shook her head. Cleaning her lids with her own hand as she quickly turned to escape the man’s presence, who she did not want to try and understand anymore. Nevertheless, against her determination, his hand reached her once again, squeezing her arm until it hurt.
