Wrong Love, Final Goodbye: She'll Never Look Back-Chapter 340: Why Is It You?
Tanya could only smile apologetically at Celine, "Let’s talk later."
She walked into Professor Carter’s office.
"Professor Carter, you wanted to see me?"
Professor Carter gestured for Tanya to sit down, "Have a seat first."
He poured Tanya a glass of water, sat beside her, and began speaking with a smile, "Well, the work you did for The Veridia Project is now complete. I wanted to ask what’s next for you?"
Tanya pondered for a moment, "I have an important personal matter to attend to."
"Oh, I see..." Professor Carter adjusted his glasses, respectfully not probing further.
"Professor Carter, feel free to speak directly," Tanya said frankly, holding her glass of water.
Professor Carter said, "I’ve observed your capabilities during this period. I also had a chat with Old Master Truman. You could have joined a top research institute focusing on pharmaceutical research right after graduation back then. But unfortunately... sigh."
Tanya smiled with relief, "Everyone has to pay for the foolish decisions of their youth. I’ve come to terms with it."
"Let’s not dwell on the past. I’m asking you, if there were a better opportunity, a chance to start over, would you be willing to continue in the field of scientific research, creating more possibilities for the future of humankind?"
"Yes, I would." Tanya nodded solemnly.
This was her dream when she was a young girl, but later on...
Professor Carter nodded with satisfaction, smiling, "Currently, the International Scientific Research Association is implementing a Talent Program, selecting the top one hundred young experts from around the world. Both Professor Truman and I have jointly recommended you."
Tanya was flattered, "Professor Carter, but I haven’t achieved anything significant in recent years..."
Professor Carter waved his hand, "We are well aware of your level. As long as you have some time for advanced learning, we all believe you can make greater contributions. Besides you, we also recommended three other young scholars and scientists. One of them is your senior, Cameron Wenworth. However, we need to wait for the final selection from the Swiss committee, which will likely be announced by next spring."
Tanya expressed her gratitude, "Thank you and Professor Truman for placing your trust in me."
Professor Carter revealed a playful side, laughing, "If you were incapable, it wouldn’t matter how much we wanted to support you."
Tanya smiled and took a sip of water.
"There’s one more thing. A newly listed biomedical technology company, founded by the son of an old friend of mine, needs to hire a professional technical consultant. They only need you to oversee a few key areas." Professor Carter said, "I noticed your work is done, so I wanted to see if you’re available. If it’s inconvenient, I’ll find someone else."
It was the first time Professor Carter had asked her for a favor, and after a moment’s thought, Tanya agreed, "If it’s just a consultant role to oversee things, I have time."
"Great. I’ll let them know..." Before Professor Carter finished speaking, his phone rang.
He answered it, "Mr. Lucas, I was just about to tell you that I’ve found the consultant you were seeking... okay, let me ask."
Professor Carter covered the phone, turning to Tanya.
"Do you have time this afternoon? If you do, you could visit the company, have a look around, and perhaps sign the consultant agreement."
She had dinner plans with Declan Pierce but was free in the afternoon.
"I have time, leave the arrangements to you."
Upon hearing Tanya’s reply, Professor Carter told his friend, "No problem, have him come to pick her up."
After hanging up, Professor Carter called Harrison Langdon to accompany Tanya.
Tanya said, "Isn’t it unnecessary to trouble Senior Brother Harrison to accompany me? I’m not a kid anymore."
Before Professor Carter could reply, Harrison Langdon solemnly said, "You’re not a kid, but you’re our junior sister! If the company’s boss is an ugly, old, sleazy man who acts inappropriately, I, as your senior brother, will punch him in the face!"
Tanya was amused.
Professor Carter playfully hit Harrison Langdon on the head, "With those skinny arms, you struggle to lift equipment. Your punch could at most knock over a preschooler. Besides, my old friend’s son is a handsome and talented young man. He’s nearby and will personally come to pick you up."
"Professor Carter, can you give me that gentleman’s contact information?" Tanya asked, "That way, when we meet, we can confirm identities."
"Alright, you two head to the main entrance first. I’ll send you his number once I find it."
"Okay."
Tanya and Harrison Langdon walked towards the exit. Once they reached the main entrance, Tanya received a string of numbers from Professor Carter.
Tanya suddenly stopped in her tracks.
Harrison Langdon turned back, puzzled, "What’s wrong, junior sister?"
"..."
Tanya stared at the number sent by Professor Carter, frowning slightly.
She was painfully familiar with this number... not because it was deeply ingrained in her memory, but because she naturally had a good memory, and the owner of this number had disgusted her for many years.
"Junior sister? Are you okay?" Harrison Langdon was a bit worried.
Tanya was about to respond when a silver Mercedes sedan pulled up, the window rolled down, revealing a face so familiar it made Tanya feel nauseated.
Inside the car, Rhys Lucas looked at Tanya standing outside, and after a moment of surprise, frowned, "Why is it you?"
In the next second, he realized, "You’re the consultant Professor Carter recommended?"
