Witty Wife, Better Life-Chapter 839 - 829
Chapter 839: 829
Nobody came looking for trouble anymore, and the days passed like flowing water, and more than two years had passed in the blink of an eye.
"Pangpang, Mommy might not be able to come back at noon today, so if Mommy isn’t back, you should take your sister to the cafeteria for lunch. After eating, hurry home to sleep, and don’t run around playing outside, okay?" Shen Yunfang was packing her things while instructing her son, who was putting on his shoes to run outside.
"I know." Pangpang put on his shoes and saw that his sister was also ready, so he ran downstairs first.
"Manman, keep an eye on your brother, don’t let him get into trouble again." Shen Yunfang shouted after them.
Watching her son and daughter run off as if they hadn’t heard, she couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Having never raised children before, she didn’t realize that children weren’t always little angels. When they got idle, even a fairy couldn’t stand it.
Every day, they were either climbing trees or swimming in the river, or following their friends around the military community, causing trouble everywhere. These little kids were a handful, but with the military community kids attending the summer camps organized by the military during their vacations over these two years, their physiques had grown as strong as little calves, and their capacity for destruction had multiplied.
Li Hongjun and his wife also received calls from the military logistics department to talk to parents from time to time. Luckily, the family was well-off, and compensation was not an issue.
Li Hongjun was a good deterrent for Pangpang at home. However, a few days ago, Li Hongjun had left on a mission, and the house’s little rascal had been running wild like a horse without reins.
After watching the kids run off, Shen Yunfang quickly tidied up the house and then grabbed her bag and headed downstairs.
"Yunfang, are you going to work?"
She ran into a neighbor downstairs.
"Yes, going to work. Sister Wang, you were busy in the fields early this morning." Shen Yunfang observed her neighbor, Sister Wang, sitting on a concrete pedestal downstairs picking vegetables, and knew she had just come back from her private plot.
"Exactly, only cool in the morning and evening these days." Sister Wang shook the small lettuce in her hand. "The lettuce in the fields is edible now. Yunfang, if you want some, just go pull it up."
"Okay, if I want some, I won’t be shy with Sister Wang." Shen Yunfang cheerfully agreed.
"Why be polite, we’ve been neighbors for so many years." Sister Wang happily waved her hand. "Oh, right, I’m still pulling you into a chat! I hope I’m not delaying you. Hurry to work now, we can chat more when you come back."
"Okay, thanks, Sister Wang, I’m off to work now." Shen Yunfang checked her watch—it really was getting late.
She reached the building entrance, unlocked her car, sat in it, and slowly her small SUV left the military community.
Her first destination was Agricultural University; she had two classes there this morning. After finishing the classes and chatting with a colleague, she drove towards the farm.
In the past two years, the basic infrastructure of the farm had been completed. Red brick walls enclosed the entire farm, and a large gate was set up near the road. Two elderly men were hired there as gatekeepers and night watchmen.
As Shen Yunfang’s car approached from the road, one of the gatekeepers on duty in the gatehouse saw her and recognized the boss’s car. He quickly ran out of the gatehouse and pulled the gate open in advance, allowing the boss’s car to enter unimpeded.
By the time Shen Yunfang parked her car, it was already ten o’clock in the morning.
"Sister-in-law, you’re here, everyone is present. Shall we start the meeting now or wait a bit?" Zhang Chunwang hurriedly came out to greet her upon hearing her voice.
Shen Yunfang shut the car door and removed her sunglasses, "Notify them to start the meeting now," and walked towards the office.
Shen Yunfang’s office had moved out of the dormitory building; last year, a separate four-story office building was constructed on the other side of the Drying Yard. Not only were the boss’s office set up, but each manager also had their individual offices, and on the third floor, there was a large conference room that could accommodate around fifty people. Today’s meeting was to be held there.
By the time Zhang Chunwang accompanied Shen Yunfang with the materials into the conference room, several people were already seated—management personnel of the farm.
Shen Yunfang raised her hand to signal everyone to sit down; she herself took the main seat, and the meeting began.
"Everyone is aware of the development of our farm and processing plant in recent years; now, we are faced with a significant decision—whether to continue developing international markets or switch to domestic markets. As you are all part of the farm, please share your views."
Over these years, the farm developed rapidly. With support from Director Bai, Yunfang had leased an additional 2,000 acres of land and the neighboring reservoir, which, with her original 1,000 acres, formed its current size.
As everyone was familiar with the aspects of farm management, the workers proficiently reclaimed and cultivated the 2,000 acres of wasteland.
Accordingly, the farm’s existing projects continuously expanded. With the reservoir, many projects were put on the agenda, such as fish farming and the rearing of ducks and geese.
Expansion was positive, but it also brought significant sales pressure.
Chinese people tend to follow trends, and many had noticed when Shen Yunfang trucked out loads of vegetables from her farm. Therefore, it wasn’t long before others followed suit, leasing plots of land and starting to operate their farms.
Of course, genuinely wealthy individuals did not fancy the business of farming and raising poultry, resulting in smaller-scale farms compared to Feiyang Farm.
But everyone was keenly aware of the profits from off-season vegetables, leading to an eruption of vegetable greenhouses throughout Z Province’s surroundings over the past two years.
However, Feiyang already predominantly occupied the original market. To carve out a share from Feiyang’s grip, competitors had to resort to various strategies.
Also, not without their own significant backers, various companies and institutions now monopolized end-of-year holiday benefits that Feiyang could hardly contest. Those without influential support waged price wars, selling nearly at cost to wholesale and successfully biting a piece out of Feiyang’s market.
Fortunately, two years ago, Feiyang had already started exploring new markets. With Li Tuo’s connections, Feiyang’s products were sold overseas.
However, although the process went smoothly, the results were disappointing.
The factory’s bagged food products, such as chips, spicy strips, marinated eggs, various marinated meats, and spicy wood ear fungus, sold very well, earning Feiyang a considerable amount of US Dollars. But in the fresh produce market, Feiyang tasted its first failure. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
All the vegetables and meats Feiyang shipped were inspected, but only about ten to twenty percent sold; the remainder, given the long travel distance, could not be shipped back and was left to rot on foreign shelves.
Tracking this venture, Feiyang barely broke even over these years of exporting.
This situation greatly annoyed Feiyang’s leadership, prompting today’s meeting.
