Why Not Make Both Twins 'Girlfriends'?-Chapter 4Volume 2 . - Various Pinches...?
Various Pinches…? 4
After Chikage returned to the Auditing Committee, Sakuto and Hikari headed back to the Newspaper Club’s clubroom.
“Um… Chikage-san… no, Chikage-sama, how is it…?”
The one who timidly asked was Wakana.
“For now, I’ve asked Chikage to hold off on disbanding us or reporting to the student guidance department.”
“Does that mean we’re not being disbanded!? Amazing…! Thank you, Takayashiki-kun…!”
Wakana’s face lit up with relief.
“No, wait… I said ‘for now’ because what comes next is important. It’s not immediate disbandment, but we have an audit period until the 20th, and the Newspaper Club has been tasked with the condition of publishing a proper newspaper by then—”
—I’ll leave it at that.
“I see… Ahh…”
Wakana let out a sigh of relief, but the problem was merely postponed, and the situation was far from resolved.
There was a little less than two weeks of reprieve.
During this time, a proper newspaper had to be published.
The next issue to solve was the shortage of staff.
“Ayaka-senpai, how many other members do we have besides these three?”
“Plus Hikari-chan, that makes four of us…”
“Four, huh… So, how much progress have we made on this month’s newspaper?”

“Well, overall, about twenty percent. Usually, we’d be working on a special feature on the sports clubs for the summer tournament around this time of the year—”
Ayaka looked at Wakana.
“I’ve done about half of the interviews. Matori-senpai was taking photos, right?”
Then Matori looked at her precious KANON-chan with a sad smile.
“She disappeared earlier. Or rather, she was erased…”
Sakuto thought about what he had done, but he had no regrets.
In fact, he felt it served her right.
“I’ve transferred about half to the PC… but for the rest, I guess we’ll have to retake them…”
Matori sighed, but there was no other option than to retake the photos.
Then Hikari raised her hand and said, “Question!”
“Did you save those photos that disappeared on the camera itself or on an SD card?”
“SD card, but what about it?”
Hikari smiled brightly.
“Then, could you lend me that SD card?”
“Sure, but what are you going to do with it?”
“I can’t guarantee it’ll be perfect, but I’ll try to recover the photo data.”
“Really!? You can do that!?”
“Yes!”
Seeing Hikari answer so confidently, Sakuto let out a relieved breath.
“So, it looks like Hikari is going to withdraw her resignation from the club for now.”
“Yeah. I’ve been asked by Wakana-chan for a while, and after talking with Chii-chan earlier, I thought I might try participating in the Newspaper Club’s activities.”
“Thank you, Hikari!”
Wakana’s expression brightened with joy once again.
Sakuto, seeing the two senpai as happy as Wakana, gently opened his mouth to speak.
“And I’ll be helping out this time too. I won’t join the club, though.”
“Eh? But, is that okay…?”
“Isn’t Takayashiki angry with us?”
Sakuto gave a wry smile.
“Of course I’m angry. That’s why I’m the watchdog. We can’t have incidents like today happening all the time… Well, I’m already aboard this ship, so I’ll help as much as I can.”
Matori also smiled wryly and looked at Ayaka.
It seemed that the final decision was left to the club president, but there was only one obvious choice—
“…Then, Takayashiki-kun, Hikari-chan, please take care of us!”
—For now, it could be considered a successful infiltration.
By offering to cooperate at this stage, it seemed they had managed to create a debt of gratitude.
With Chikage’s silence secured, they were likely able to curry some favor.
—However, the real challenge starts now.
With Sakuto and Hikari keeping a watchful eye from the inside and Chikage, the Auditing Committee member, doing the same from the outside, they might be able to correct the club’s misguided direction.
The school would probably allow the publication of a decent newspaper.
And if they receive proper funding for their activities, the Newspaper Club should no longer pursue scandals, and the secret about the three of them would remain safe.
For that to happen, there was a mountain of tasks to be done.
“Matori-senpai, if Hikari has restored the photo, what happens to the front page that was supposed to feature me?”
“Ugh… that way of putting it—Well, it’ll be about the summer tournament, featuring interviews and photos of the sports clubs on the front page.”
“So, we just need to finish the rest of the interviews and cover the remaining items?”
“Pretty much. Club activities will be restricted starting next week due to exams, but if we use the three-day weekend with Saturday, Sunday, and Marine Day on Monday, we should be able to manage somehow.”
“When is this month’s issue due?”
“On the last day of school, the 20th. It’s fine as long as the printing is done by the 19th.”
“I see…”
The timing was perfect.
The audit would be finished on the 20th, so they needed to show that they were actively working until then, submit the completed articles to the school on the 19th, and if they could publish on the 20th, there would be no issues with the report to the Auditing Committee.
(As long as we can publish the newspaper… Huh?)
Suddenly, Sakuto looked at Wakana. She had a worried look on her face.
Noticing Wakana’s gloomy expression just like Sakuto did, Hikari spoke up first.
“Wakana-chan, what’s wrong? Do you have any concerns?”
Wakana looked down with a somber expression.
“I wonder if people will actually read the newspaper we’ve worked so hard on…”
Sakuto realized something important.
It was likely not just Wakana but a point of concern for the entire Newspaper Club.
It would be a shame if the newspaper they’ve worked so hard to create ends up unread.
Perhaps that’s why there was a temptation to resort to scandal stories to attract attention──
“…No, never mind. I’ve been given a chance, so I have to do it!”
Wakana tried to act cheerfully, but Sakuto and Hikari felt reminded of the importance of the situation.
After all, they might just end up repeating the same situation as this time if they don’t make a newspaper that gets read.
“What do you think about that, Hikari?”
“The headlines, content, and layout all depend on our creativity… For starters, I’d like to read through the back issues of the newspaper.”
“O-Okay!”
After that, Wakana brought over the files containing the back issues haphazardly.
Hikari began to flip through the files.
“Hikari… are you actually reading that…?”
Feeling something was off as if Hikari wasn’t really reading, Wakana timidly asked.
“Mmhm, I’m reading it. I want to concentrate for a bit──”
Without stopping her hands, Hikari continued to flip through the files seriously, then picked up the next one.
It seemed like she could be trusted with the task.
“Then, shall we get started too?”
With that, Ayaka and Matori immediately stood up.
“If we’re going to interview the sports clubs now, I’ll──”
“If you need a camera, I’ll come along too.”
As the two senpai showed their enthusiasm, Sakuto gave them an untroubled smile.
“Let’s clean the clubroom with everyone except Hikari for today──The air is bad in here.”
