When His Nauseous Sweetheart Frowns, the Tycoon's Family Takes Turns Pampering Her-Chapter 59: She Will No Longer Overestimate Herself
Blaze Fairchild stood there, his dark eyes fixed on the lump huddled under the covers on the bed.
After a long moment, he turned and left.
When Luna Axton heard his footsteps fading away, tears streamed from her eyes, soaking into the pillow like a bursting dam, leaving behind a damp, warm patch.
It’s only when a person is at their lowest that they make the calmest, most self-beneficial decisions.
’Luna Axton, you’re doing great.’
’Don’t be afraid of Blaze Fairchild. You have to be brave and state your needs.’
"Young Madam."
Luna Axton was in the middle of her self-pep talk when she suddenly heard Mrs. Creed’s voice.
Before she could wipe her tears, Mrs. Creed was already at her bedside.
"Oh, my dear," Mrs. Creed’s delicate brows furrowed as she spoke with heartfelt pity. "How did you end up crying like this? The Young Master has gone too far."
"No..." Luna Axton grabbed a corner of the blanket and wiped her face, drying her tears. "It has nothing to do with Mr. Fairchild," she denied.
"How could it have nothing to do with him! Who else but the Young Master would dare to upset you like this? Everyone in the Fairchild Estate adores you."
Mrs. Creed was indignant on her behalf, deliberately not mentioning a word about the Young Master’s instruction for her to apply a cold compress.
Mrs. Creed took out the chilled spoons and ice pack she had prepared and placed them on Luna’s swollen eyes.
"Don’t cry, don’t cry. Let Mrs. Creed put a cold compress on your eyes. They’re all swollen and puffy," Mrs. Creed cooed softly.
Luna Axton managed a small laugh through her tears. "Thank you, Mrs. Creed."
"No more crying, now. It’s not a big deal. This will all pass."
"Okay, I understand, Mrs. Creed," Luna Axton replied sweetly, her heart gradually brightening at Mrs. Creed’s words.
’She’s right, it’s really not a big deal.’
’She and Blaze Fairchild had a shotgun wedding because of the baby, a contract marriage.’
’Everything should be handled according to the contract, and they shouldn’t interfere in each other’s affairs.’
’Whatever Blaze Fairchild does outside has nothing to do with her, so why should she dwell on it?’
’But Blaze Fairchild had gotten one thing wrong.’
’It wasn’t that she no longer needed him, nor was it that she was done using him now that her mother was discharged from the hospital.’
’Her mother’s illness still required the Frost Family to diagnose and prescribe treatment. She had to do her part.’
’She thought that after hearing Blaze Fairchild talk about his own mother, they had grown closer.’
’Because of his intimate gestures, she had misunderstood the nature of their relationship.’
’From now on, she wouldn’t overestimate her importance in Blaze Fairchild’s heart.’
The cold compress worked well. After about ten minutes, the swelling around Luna Axton’s eyes had subsided significantly.
"Mrs. Creed, I’ll have dinner here at Lakeside Manor. If my mother asks, please just tell her I was tired from playing and went to bed early."
Her emotions were a mess today; she couldn’t face her mother.
"Alright, Young Madam. You should get some rest."
Mrs. Creed packed up her things and left the room, only to be startled by the tall, intimidating figure standing by the door.
’Honestly, the Young Master. Why was he hiding by the door, eavesdropping?’
’If he knew the Young Madam would cry, and he doesn’t have the first clue how to comfort her, why not just go along with her wishes?’
"She’s stopped crying. She’s gone to sleep," Mrs. Creed reported.
"Mm," Blaze Fairchild nodded and turned to go to the study.
After the cold compress, Luna Axton’s eyes didn’t feel as uncomfortable.
She wrapped herself in the blanket and fell into a deep sleep.
In the evening, Mrs. Creed woke her up for dinner.
She took a shower, packed the things she needed for her internship, and went back to sleep.
Without Blaze Fairchild to disturb her, she slept very well.
When she woke up, Blaze Fairchild was no longer home.
She sat at the dining table eating breakfast. Seeing it was about time, she tentatively spoke up,
"Mrs. Creed, I need to go out."
"Alright, I’ll have Caleb get ready."
Luna Axton noticed that Mrs. Creed’s tone and expression were the same as always.
’Hadn’t Blaze Fairchild said anything to Mrs. Creed?’
’Or was he too busy and forgot?’
’Or perhaps, his lack of an explicit refusal meant he agreed?’
Luna Axton couldn’t figure out what Blaze Fairchild was thinking.
But she had made her decision and was determined to go.
She gathered her things and went outside. Sure enough, Caleb had already brought the car around.
"Good morning, Young Madam."
Luna Axton remembered Blaze Fairchild’s words and asked Caleb, "Are you feeling better?"
Caleb was touched and nodded. "Thank you for your concern, Young Madam. After the first day of my period, I felt mostly fine."
The answer was a bit ambiguous, so Luna Axton wasn’t sure. She asked Caleb directly,
"Did your Young Master talk to you?"
"No."
Caleb’s eyes didn’t seem like she was lying.
’It seemed Blaze Fairchild hadn’t lied to her; he didn’t punish Caleb.’
"Let’s go. We’re heading to Concordia Medical Hall."
The temperature in Valoria was dropping. The wind was biting, and pedestrians on the street were bundled up so tightly that only their eyes were visible.
In previous years, there would have already been snow on the ground by now.
Abnormal climate is a global issue. Glaciers are melting, and many viruses are emerging as a result.
Treating illness before it arises and focusing on prevention were the only means of self-protection available right now.
At 8:20 AM, the Cullinan pulled up to the entrance of Concordia Medical Hall.
Remembering Caleb was still on her period, Luna Axton took it upon herself to tell Caleb that she’d be at Concordia Medical Hall all day and to just come pick her up at five in the afternoon.
Caleb watched her go inside before starting the car and driving away.
Luna Axton hid behind the door, and only when she saw Caleb had really left did she believe that Blaze Fairchild hadn’t spoken to Caleb.
When she first moved into the Fairchild Estate, Caleb never left her side.
Later, as they got more familiar, Caleb would wander around campus while she was in class.
If Blaze Fairchild had talked to Caleb, Caleb, fearing punishment, would absolutely not have dared to leave.
Relieved that she hadn’t dragged Caleb into trouble, she relaxed and turned to enter the courtyard.
Even though the doctors wouldn’t start calling numbers for appointments until nine o’clock, the long rows of chairs by the entrance were already filled with waiting people.
Doctors in white coats were pouring water to make tea, doing some prep work before their shifts.
Luna Axton went to The Vermilion Bird Hall on the second floor, where she had her interview the day before yesterday, to wait.
Stepping into this room again, she was in a completely different state of mind.
During her interview, it had started the moment she walked in.
Now, she noticed that the walls of the room were covered with printed-out medical case files, held up by magnets.
With nothing else to do, she began to look them over one by one.
"Hello."
A voice interrupted Luna Axton’s thoughts. She turned her gaze to the doorway and gave a slight nod.
Unless it was necessary, she was mostly an introverted person who wasn’t skilled at socializing.
She never took the initiative to greet strangers or start a conversation.
The young man saw the bulge of her belly under her down jacket and asked, a little uncertainly, "Are you one of the interns?"
"Yes."
Bright eyes, pearly teeth, and gracefully curved brows—at a glance, she seemed like a gentle and approachable person.
The young man visibly relaxed. He stopped in front of Luna Axton and introduced himself with confident composure.
"I’m Paige, from the Traditional Chinese Medicine department. Nice to meet you."
"Hello, I’m Luna Axton, from the Clinical Medicine department."
Paige looked surprised.
’Luna Axton from the Clinical Medicine department.’
He did have some recollection of her. He always heard the name Luna Axton during the school’s scholarship award ceremonies.
They would all go up to receive their awards and take pictures together, but he rarely paid attention to the faces of the people around him; it was just the name that was very familiar.
Paige’s inquisitive gaze fell on Luna Axton’s abdomen, but he was mindful of boundaries and didn’t ask about it. Instead, he brought up the case files in front of them,
"These must be classic medical cases that the senior doctors have collected over time."
"Judging by the dates, these are recent cases. The treatment for this patient’s skin condition was very effective. I see the treatment plan is also quite unique, using the rare..."
When the topic turned to medical matters, Luna Axton was also happy to say a bit more.
And because Paige was a Traditional Chinese Medicine major, they had different perspectives to share when discussing the cases.
"Wow, you guys are so eager, getting here so early."
A female voice interrupted their discussion. The newcomer had long, flowing hair, slender eyes, and thin lips that curved slightly downward.
Luna Axton’s gaze fell on the girl, and she maintained her polite smile.
Paige glanced at the clock on the wall. They were told to be here at 8:30, and it was already 8:40.
’She’s the one who’s late, but she has to frame it as others being overly eager and arriving early.’
’This girl seems difficult to get along with, and a selfish one at that.’
Paige mentally labeled the girl, understanding what she was like, but still took the initiative to introduce himself,
"Hi there. I’m Paige, from the Traditional Chinese Medicine department."
