Chapter 104: Chapter 104: For the Strawberry Cake

The three of them returned home, where dinner was waiting.

During the meal, Julian Fairchild once again expressed his gratitude to Jenna Axton.

He wanted to say more, but he couldn’t bring himself to be harsh with his own children—it was like choosing between the palm and the back of his hand.

He simply promised that he would no longer interfere in matters concerning Blaze and Rosalind Fairchild.

After dinner, Blaze returned to Lakeside Manor to rest.

Luna Axton had slept soundly the night before, so she wasn’t the least bit tired.

With time on her hands, she decided to consult her books and prepare some medicinal herbs.

She planned to make wellness mallets for Grandpa, Uncle Foster, and Mrs. Creed. They could use them daily to pat sore areas and acupressure points, improving their circulation.

Next, she would make a revitalizing sachet for Lindsey to help her stay alert, so she could cut back on coffee.

She would also put together some foot soak packets for Ms. Brooks and Mr. Coleman. They spent all day on their feet teaching, which was also mentally draining. A foot soak before bed would help them relax.

Grandpa Fairchild had given her a piece of agarwood. Its resin lines were distinct, and its fragrance was subtle yet complex—a truly fine specimen. She planned to design and carve it into a beaded bracelet as a gift for the Frost Family.

She followed Blaze back to their room, mentally cataloging the gifts she was planning to make. Lost in thought, she didn’t notice when he suddenly grabbed her hand.

"What’s wrong?" Her mind was still elsewhere, and she looked at him, a little dazed.

Blaze didn’t say a word. He just glanced at her before his lips came down on hers, catching her completely by surprise.

She instinctively wrapped her arms around his waist.

A satisfied expression softened his features as he deepened the kiss.

As their lips brushed together, Luna caught the faint, fresh scent of strawberry and the cool tingle of mint on his tongue.

’When did he have candy? Why didn’t he give me a piece?’

’Before she’d been told to avoid it, she never cared much for candy one way or another.’

’But now that the doctor had told her to cut back, all it took was this little taste from Blaze to make her crave its sweetness.’

She rose onto her tiptoes to chase the kiss, but Blaze pulled his head back, breaking away from her lips.

"Craving it that much?" he asked, the corners of his eyes crinkling with amusement.

Caught in her little scheme to steal a taste of sweetness from the kiss, Luna lowered her head shyly, saying nothing.

Blaze’s long fingers lifted her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze.

It was only then that she realized the look in his eyes had changed.

It was the same look she’d seen Mr. Coleman give Ms. Brooks—the kind of gaze that made you feel a kiss was imminent.

And that was exactly how Blaze was looking at her now.

"Do you want some strawberry cake?" Blaze’s voice was a soft, bewitching whisper.

’Eating sweet and sour strawberries in a warm room in the middle of winter... The satisfaction was like taking a gulp of orange soda on a scorching summer day when you were dying of thirst.’

The thought made Luna swallow unconsciously.

She lightly bit her red lip. "I... I want some."

"If you behave, Luna, I’ll make it for you." His low, husky voice was an invitation she found impossible to refuse.

’Why was Blaze acting like this? She wasn’t a three-year-old child, being coaxed with food.’

’But she really, really wanted strawberries.’

’What does he want her to do?’

’Is it... that?’

’But Blaze could go for a really long time... If they did it too often, would it affect Lucky?’

Blaze wasn’t in a hurry. He watched as her shimmering eyes darted about, her expression full of inner conflict.

’As she thought about it, her face turned red. Just where had her thoughts drifted?’

Blaze didn’t call her out on it.

He lowered his head and leaned in, the bridge of his nose pressing against the tip of hers. His lips closed over hers, nibbling and sucking gently.

Luna felt a tingling spread across her lips, and her mind went blank, filled with a buzzing like a swarm of bees.

There was a kind of magic in Blaze’s kisses. The moment his lips touched hers, her ability to think straight evaporated, and her heart began to pound wildly.

"Have you decided?" His voice was low and slow, carrying a hint of a smile.

"You..." Her chin was still cradled in his hand. She looked up at him and surrendered as if she had no other choice. "What is it you want?"

She had no idea how incredibly alluring her pliable, at-his-mercy expression was to a man like Blaze, who was only just beginning to explore the depths of passion.

"Kiss me," he said, his voice raspy, sending a shiver through her. "The same way I just kissed you."

A tremor ran through Luna’s heart.

’She shot him a look that was both flirtatious and cross. He hadn’t gotten his way last night, so he wasn’t about to let her off the hook today.’

Luna was both embarrassed and annoyed, but she knew it was pointless to refuse if Blaze truly wanted something. Sooner or later, he would have his way.

For the sake of strawberry cake, Luna gathered her courage. Using her hands on his waist for leverage, she obediently traced his lips with the tip of her tongue, mimicking his earlier kiss, alternating her touch from light to firm, inside and out.

Blaze was clearly pleased by her clumsy, artless technique. With a slight arch of his brow, he caught her tongue with his own, leading it in a dance of twirls, licks, and sucks.

For a time, the room was filled with an escalating symphony of sounds that would make anyone blush: the wet noise of an intimate kiss, soft, alluring moans, and low, passionate gasps.

When the long, passionate kiss finally ended, Luna was left completely drained of strength.

Blaze ended up carrying her to the sofa. She sat on his lap, leaning weakly against his shoulder.

"Were you angry with me when you saw Yvonne Rhodes today?"

"Mhm." She didn’t even have the strength to deny it.

’If she told him she suspected he was behind her back, taking care of Grandpa at the hospital with Yvonne Rhodes, Blaze would definitely say she was making things up and being unreasonable.’

’Because of what happened with Mrs. Fairchild, Blaze didn’t like her overthinking things during her pregnancy.’

Blaze smiled faintly, the corners of his mouth lifting in a smug, pleased curve.

’She finally knows how to be jealous.’

"When do you want to eat the strawberry cake? Wyatt Kingston had someone deliver strawberries this morning. They’re big and red, perfect for a strawberry cake."

’Wyatt Kingston? He really is a man of his word.’

’Should she eat the cake or not? Accepting a gift like this would put her in his debt. How could she explain it to Lindsey?’

"Answer me," Blaze murmured in her ear, planting a soft kiss on her earlobe.

Luna couldn’t handle the sensation, and her voice came out soft and breathy. "Wyatt Kingston likes Lindsey... I probably shouldn’t eat these strawberries."

Blaze was surprised. This was the first he’d heard about anything between Wyatt Kingston and Joy Coleman.

"It’s fine. If you want to eat it, then eat it. I’ll have someone send him some toads."

A toad lusting after a swan.

Luna laughed out loud. "Isn’t that a little mean?"

Her laughter sent vibrations through her chest, stirring Blaze’s desire.

"My wife is refusing the strawberry cake I’m offering to make for her. What’s wrong with me sending him some toads to wish him wealth and prosperity?"

’He was truly wicked.’

"I want to eat the strawberry cake this afternoon, for my snack."

"I’ll go make it after I take a shower."

"Okay."

Holding her soft, warm, fragrant body in his arms, Blaze was finding it hard to restrain himself.

He put some distance between them. "Still angry?"

"I misunderstood. I’m not angry anymore," she said frankly.

"Rest assured, there are no other women in my life. And I have no interest in any."

Luna froze. ’What did he mean by that?’

’An explanation?’

’A reassurance?’

’Or was he just coaxing her because he didn’t want her to overthink things?’

’Or... did he actually care about her feelings?’

Luna didn’t know the answer, but she still nodded obediently. "I understand."

Blaze could tell from her expression that she didn’t get it at all.

’But the fact that she’s getting jealous now proves that she does have feelings for me.’

’I won’t pressure her. I’ll just wait for her to figure it out on her own.’
