Chapter 105: Chapter 105: You Will Be a Very Good Dad

On Chinese New Year’s Eve, Luna Axton sat distractedly on the sofa in Lakeside Manor after lunch.

Her baby bump was prominent, her pregnancy now obvious.

When Blaze Fairchild returned from giving red envelopes to the on-duty staff at Fairchild Estate, he found her with a furrowed brow and a vacant look in her eyes.

The agarwood bracelets in front of her had already been placed in boxes. One bracelet, with slightly smaller beads, was adorned with gold spacers, a Golden Fortune Bead, and a Vajra Pestle Pendant, making it unique and exquisite.

"Are you unhappy with the bracelets?" Blaze Fairchild asked, sitting down beside her. "The artisan hasn’t left yet. Should I ask him to come over and make some adjustments?"

Luna Axton had mentioned wanting to make agarwood bracelets, so Blaze Fairchild had hired a professional wooden bracelet craftsman to come to their home and give her hands-on instruction.

She was diligent and able to focus, so with a tutor, she learned quickly and finished all the bracelets in a single day.

Luna snapped back to the present, her expression tinged with a faint sadness. "No, I love them all."

’It wasn’t about the bracelets. She’s just sitting here in a daze, unlike before, when she would run off to Crimson Hall whenever she had a free moment.’

’So, it must be about her mother and Russell’s situation on New Year’s Eve.’

Blaze Fairchild took her hand and said comfortingly, "If you have something on your mind, you should talk to your mom about it."

"No." Luna Axton shook her head. ’I can’t influence her decision.’

"I want my mom to think more about herself. She barely escaped the clutches of her illness to have the life she has today. I just want her to live for herself."

Hearing this, Blaze Fairchild sighed inwardly and pulled her into his arms. "Everything will get better. Let’s take it one step at a time."

"Mm."

Luna Axton gazed at her surroundings in Lakeside Manor. She had grown very familiar with this place and was gradually getting used to life at Fairchild Estate.

Blaze Fairchild was very busy, but he gave her a lot of space.

Aside from her pregnancy exercises and diet, he didn’t restrict her in any other way.

’If Mom chooses to go back to Kensing, I’ll have to live in Valoria all by myself.’

’Even though I can go back to Kensing during winter and summer breaks, it won’t be as convenient as before.’

’Russell Frost has found Mom, and he definitely won’t let go so easily.’

’My identity—the fact that I’m the daughter of Adriana Frost and Russell Frost—can never be acknowledged.’

’If I stay out of the picture, Mom won’t be constrained, and my biological father’s reputation won’t suffer.’

’Now, it’s time for me to learn to let go and be independent.’

’I don’t want to be separated from my mom, but I have to get used to living alone.’

’Thankfully, Lucky will be born soon, and Blaze comforts me, just like he is right now.’

’Even though I know he’s just worried about my emotions affecting the baby, his embrace makes my heart feel less empty.’

After a while, when Blaze Fairchild sensed her mood had lifted, he let her go and suggested:

"The security guard at the gate said the cloud lamp we bought for Lucky arrived the day before yesterday. Want to go install it together?"

Lucky’s room couldn’t have incandescent lights; the light is too harsh and can affect a newborn’s eyes.

So, Blaze Fairchild had bought a cute, soft-glowing cloud lamp online.

The lamp’s color and brightness were both adjustable, so it wouldn’t need to be replaced later.

"Since it’s a holiday today, are there any taboos or anything?" Luna Axton asked.

She didn’t know much about the taboos associated with traditional holidays.

In the past, she had always spent New Year’s Eve with just her mother.

They would travel to other cities, stay in hotels, and take part in all sorts of local cultural and recreational activities.

"None." Blaze Fairchild ruffled her shoulder-length hair, his expression as gentle as ever. "Come on, let’s go to Evergreen Manor."

It had only been five or six days since she’d last been to Evergreen Manor, but it had changed again. It now had an antique charm, exuding an air of elegance and serenity.

Many beautiful ornaments and pieces of porcelain had been placed in their proper spots for the New Year, and there were calligraphy scrolls and paintings on the walls.

The row of rooms on the east side of Evergreen Manor was meant for Lucky.

Luna Axton looked around the main house for a bit before heading to the east wing via the covered corridor.

The living room carpet was covered with baby items: tiny bottles, cloth picture books, and textured sensory toys that made sounds.

Larger items like the baby bathtub and bedding had been unboxed and were leaning against the wall by the window to air out.

The living room was filled to the brim with baby items, every single one carefully selected and purchased by Blaze Fairchild.

It was a clear sign of how much Blaze Fairchild already loved his child.

’When he was doing all this, he must have been filled with joy and anticipation.’

Surprised, Luna Axton picked up a nail clipping kit to examine it more closely. "What’s this silicone thing with the little raised dots?"

"It goes on your finger to brush Lucky’s gums," Blaze Fairchild demonstrated. "When he starts teething, you can also chill it and use it to massage his gums to relieve the pain."

He then picked up another silicone item to show Luna Axton. "This one is for fruit. When he’s teething, you can put cut-up fruit inside for Lucky to hold and chew on. You don’t have to worry about him choking."

Luna Axton noticed the light sparkling in his eyes as he shared these little items—it was the love of a father for his child.

She couldn’t help but feel a little envious of Lucky. "You’re going to be a very good father."

"Well, you have to give birth first for me to earn the title of ’Dad.’"

His words warmed Luna Axton’s heart. She lowered her head without saying anything and started taking pictures of everything with her phone.

Blaze Fairchild got his tools ready, switched off the room’s light, and set up the ladder, reminding Luna Axton to be careful.

"I’m going to install the cloud lamp. You stand over there and relax."

Luna Axton stood at the bedroom doorway, holding up her phone from a distance. "In the future, I can tell Lucky, ’Daddy installed the lamp in your room himself.’"

As she spoke, her phone went CLICK, capturing the moment: Blaze Fairchild standing on the ladder with a tool pouch at his hip.

She opened her photo album. The tall, slender man had his chin tilted up, his gaze focused on the screw in his hand.

As Luna Axton looked, her heart stirred, and a wave of delight washed over her.

With Blaze Fairchild keeping her busy and distracted, the time quickly passed, and soon it was evening.

After the four of them had New Year’s Eve dinner together, Jenna Axton returned to Crimson Hall.

Luna Axton and Blaze Fairchild stayed at Pinehurst Estate with Julian Fairchild to see in the new year.

Grandpa Fairchild roped Blaze into a game of chess.

Luna Axton was still preoccupied with her mother’s situation, but since it was a major holiday, she had no choice but to push the thoughts to the back of her mind for now.

A New Year’s interview program was playing on the TV, and she sat watching it beside Blaze Fairchild.

Whenever a segment she didn’t like came on, she would make tea for the two men or get some New Year’s snacks for them to eat.

Back at Crimson Hall, Jenna Axton sat quietly on the sofa, waiting for seven o’clock.

When the minute hand reached twelve, she stood up, grabbed the long, champagne-gold down coat draped over the back of the sofa, put on a black woolen hat, and prepared to leave.

At this hour, the streets were nearly empty of people and cars.

Even though she hadn’t driven in over two years, her skills were still excellent.

A low-profile black Audi drove through the festive, brightly-lit night. It was the car Mrs. Creed usually used.

’It almost never leaves Fairchild Estate, so it would be difficult to trace.’

’Even if it were traced, I could just come up with an excuse then.’

’When two people know each other too well, they’re both easy and difficult to deceive. It all comes down to who can act more out of character, and who can better keep their composure.’
