Chapter 154: Chapter 154: Let’s Hurt Each Other

It was lunchtime. Tanya Tang and Amanda Chapman went to the cafeteria to get their food, bringing it back to the classroom to eat. Tanya’s lunch was lavish; Phoebe Huxley had fried an egg for her, and there was also pork with preserved mustard greens. The moment she opened her lunchbox, the aroma of the preserved greens filled the classroom, making the other students incredibly envious.

Amanda Chapman’s meal was much simpler, consisting of just some rice and soybeans. Tanya suspected her grandmother had probably added more soybeans to the pot several times; the pork trotter bones had likely dissolved completely, leaving nothing but soybeans. While nutritious, it wasn’t exactly a dish that went well with rice.

However, Amanda wasn’t a picky eater. She could eat even plain white rice by itself. As long as she could go to school and fill her stomach, she was content, even if it meant eating salted vegetables for every meal.

"Cousin, I can’t finish all this. Here, you have it."

Tanya offered Amanda some meat. Phoebe Huxley had a heavy hand when it came to slicing meat—the pieces were big and thick. Just a few of them covered half the lunchbox, and the rice underneath was packed down tightly. It was enough food for a grown-up; there was no way Tanya could finish it all.

"I have enough. You eat it, Tanya."

Amanda only took one piece, blocking her lunchbox with her hand as Tanya tried to give her more. To be honest, Tanya didn’t really want it. She’d been eating meat with no other side dishes every day lately and was getting tired of it.

But Amanda still refused. Before school, her mother had told her to be considerate—to do more work and eat less meat, so she wouldn’t be a bother. One piece of meat was enough for her.

As the two cousins went back and forth, a pair of chopsticks suddenly shot out. "If neither of you wants the meat, I’ll have it."

It was Ulysses Spann. He moved so fast that before Tanya and Amanda could even react, he had snatched three pieces of meat. Only two were left in the lunchbox. Furious, Tanya slammed the lid shut, jumped to her feet, and yelled, "Give my meat back!"

But she was small and her voice lacked any real force. Ulysses paid her no mind at all, just grinning as he said, "Since you weren’t eating it, I’m just helping you out."

With that, he deliberately took a large bite of meat and chewed it with great relish. Tanya gritted her teeth in fury. ’How can anyone be so obnoxious? I could just kill this little brat!’

"That’s my meat! Even if I’m not eating it, that doesn’t mean you can! Give it back!"

Tanya lunged forward to grab Ulysses Spann’s lunchbox, but Amanda was even more ferocious. She had already lifted a stool, ready to bring it down on him. The other students scrambled to a safe distance, not daring to get involved, while a few ran off to report to Phoenix Golding.

"Fine, you can have it back. Here," he taunted. "Still want it now?"

Ulysses then did something even more obnoxious. He licked the two remaining pieces of meat all over, coating them in his saliva. Then he held the lunchbox out, inviting Tanya to take the meat. It was absolutely disgusting.

"Then you don’t get to eat either!"

Tanya was absolutely fed up with this little brat. PTUI! PTUI! PTUI! She spat a few mouthfuls of saliva right into his lunchbox. ’Fine, we can play that game,’ she thought. ’If I can’t eat my meat, then this little punk isn’t going to eat his lunch either.’

PTUI, PTUI, PTUI...

Amanda came over and spat a few times herself, glaring defiantly at Ulysses. She then pulled Tanya behind her. ’Her mother had told her to protect her younger cousin at school and not let anyone bully her.’

Ulysses never expected that Tanya and her cousin would play so dirty, actually daring to spit in his lunch. His initial shock quickly turned to fury, and then to utter despair. He burst into tears, wailing loudly.

"I-I’m telling my mom... You just wait... SOB, SOB..."

"You stole my meat first!"

Tanya felt not a shred of guilt for bullying the boy. ’Some kids are just asking for a good thrashing,’ she thought, ’and Ulysses is definitely one of them. But I’ll have to be clever about this.’

"I don’t want to be at school anymore! I want to go home... WAAAAH..."

Tanya wailed even more pitifully than Ulysses. Amanda, thinking her cousin was truly heartbroken, flew into a rage. She grabbed the nearest chair and brought it down on Ulysses. She’d beat him up first and deal with the consequences later.
