Chapter 61: Chapter 61: Your Heart Is Beating Fast

Vera Yves didn’t answer his question, but complained, "My mom used to often ask me to bring you to The Yves Family for dinner, but you never wanted to come."

Winston Valentine pinched her cheek, snapped his fingers, and Walter Lowell led people in a line, arranging the gifts in the living room.

"I didn’t know what the elders would like, so I bought a variety of things. I hope you all like them."

Winston took a VIP card from Walter’s hand, walked over to Hannah Hayes, and handed it to her, "A little token, I hope mother-in-law will accept with a smile."

Hannah looked at the card, her eyes lit up. It was a VIP gold card from her favorite stylist, requiring an annual spending of twenty million to obtain, and it offered top-tier VIP personalized services.

Hannah immediately smiled as she took the card, "You child, we’re all family, no need to bring such things when you come."

"It’s my duty."

"Wait a bit, I made some special dishes, have a good taste today."

Hannah returned to the kitchen with a smile.

Harry Yves walked into the living room and snapped back to reality, "Winston, have a seat. Vera, why are you just standing there, go brew some tea."

Winston held Vera’s hand, "Her hand is still injured, I’ll do it."

Vera pulled her hand back, "It’s just a small injury, it’s fine."

Vera went to the kitchen. What’s good about Winston buttering up to her parents? Was this also part of what Mrs. Valentine was entitled to?

Hannah looked at her with satisfaction, "Vera, you’ve finally come around to humor him?"

Vera grabbed some tea leaves, "I’m not humoring him."

"In fact, mom initially favored Miles, but unfortunately, you didn’t have the capability," Hannah laughed, "Other than his bad temper, Winston surpasses Miles in every aspect. At least you didn’t marry wrong."

Vera’s face darkened, "Mom, don’t get too happy too early. As for Winston, I also don’t have the capability!"

Hannah patted her arm with frustration, "You child, have more confidence in yourself. Cecilia can’t compare to you in any way."

Vera prepared the tea and brought it out. She didn’t know what Winston had said, but Harry’s attitude towards him had become much warmer.

Hannah soon had the food ready, and the four sat at the dining table.

Vera ate quietly, while Hannah gave her a meaningful look, "Don’t just eat by yourself, see what Winston likes and help him with some food."

Thinking about how his arm was indeed a bit inconvenient, Vera intended to help him with the food.

However, Winston got ahead and picked some food for her, "It’s rare to see you have such a good appetite, eat more."

Vera continued to eat quietly.

After eating, Vera went upstairs.

Winston followed. He had only been to Vera’s room twice, once on the wedding day and once on the day they returned.

The room was small but tidily arranged.

Vera sat by the window at the desk, messaging Miles Monroe to help lock the clinic door when leaving.

Winston leaned beside her.

Vera instinctively put the phone aside.

"What guilty action have you done, looking so tense?"

Vera looked up at him, "The meal is over. Aren’t you leaving yet?"

"There’s nothing much at the company this afternoon, I’ll stay with you."

Winston got up, casually flipping through the bookshelf above.

Seeing him pick up a photo frame, Vera suddenly stood up, "I’m not a three-year-old kid, I don’t need your company."

She tried to take the photo frame, but Winston raised it high, wrapped an arm around her, and asked in her ear, "What treasure is hidden here?"

Vera inexplicably nervous, "It’s not a treasure, just an ordinary group photo."

"Your heart is racing, can an ordinary group photo make you this tense?" Winston tightened his grip on her waist, "How about this, kiss me and I won’t look."

Vera hesitated for a few seconds, then tilted her head to touch his lips.

Winston put the photo frame face down on the desk, and as she attempted to retreat, he held her nape, deepening the kiss.

Hannah opened the door, "Vera, Winston, I’ve washed some fruit for you..."

The two quickly separated, with Vera’s cheeks turning vividly red.

Hannah awkwardly smiled, "Did mom come at a bad time?"

Vera stepped forward, taking the fruit platter from her hands, "No."

Hannah didn’t leave immediately but looked at Winston with satisfaction, "Winston, it’s a rare visit, stay a bit longer."

Winston nodded, smiling politely, "Are there any photos of Vera from when she was young at home?"

"Yes, wait here, I’ll get them for you."

Vera looked at him confusedly, "Why do you want my childhood photos?"

Winston reached out to pinch her cheek, "To see if you were as cute back then as you are now."

Vera blushed and brushed his hand away, "Boring!"

Hannah soon returned with a large photo album, "In here are photos of Vera from childhood to adulthood. Our Vera has been quite a beauty since she was little!"

Winston took the album and opened it.

The album started with photos of Vera in her infancy, recording her growth bit by bit, with many photos featuring her and Mark Yves.

Compared to Vera, Mark’s features shared more resemblances with their parents.

"Mark looked like you when he was young, but he grew up to resemble his father more."

Hannah smiled, "No wonder our Mark is handsome, just like his dad."

"And Vera?"

Hannah’s expression momentarily stiffened, "Vera doesn’t take after me or her dad, she resembles her grandmother! It’s just her grandmother passed early, not leaving many photos behind."

Winston continued flipping, and the adolescent Vera had grown more and more beautiful.

Turning another page, an unexpected photo of Vera with Miles Monroe appeared in the frame.

The background was The Yves Family’s living room, Vera was about thirteen or fourteen, while Miles was more than a head taller, his hand casually resting on her head, both showing happy smiles.

Unexpectedly, what he didn’t want to see still appeared here.

Hannah laughed, "When Vera just entered middle school, her grades weren’t good, Miles often came to our home to tutor her."

Vera only then turned her attention over as she heard them mention Miles.

Winston simply turned the page, while the smile froze on Hannah’s face as she tried to explain, "Later, Miles got a girlfriend, and he and Vera didn’t connect much. They were just childhood playmates."

"I heard Miles’ girlfriend’s family didn’t approve back then, and the two eloped abroad?"

"Indeed, I met the girl before, she’s truly beautiful. Now she seems to be a big star, but compared to The Monroe Family, her family was indeed mismatched..."

"Mom!" Vera disapprovingly glanced at her, "Can’t you stop gossiping so much?"

"Wasn’t it Winston asking, that’s why I said it?"

Winston glanced at Vera, closing the album, and a photo fell from the seam to the ground. He bent down to pick it up.

In the photo, Old Mr. Yves held a baby still in swaddlings, and the baby’s hand clutched a dragonfly made from unknown materials.

Hannah laughed as she reached for it, "How did a photo fall out?"

But Winston didn’t let go, "This is a photo of Old Mr. Yves with whom?"
