Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 60: Liking Someone for the First Time
Vera Yves pulled back her gaze, looking at him, "I still have work to do, no time to keep you company."
Miles looked at the glass yet to be installed on the table, "Let me help you."
"No need."
Miles took the photo frame carefully and removed the remaining shards of glass, then arranged the photos neatly.
The photos ranged from when she was two or three years old to her teenage years, her bright smile seemed distant to him.
After the glass was reinstalled, Miles placed the frame back in its original spot and noticed the roses on the table. His mind flashed to the moment Vera kissed Winston Valentine.
"Do you like Winston Valentine?"
Vera watched his back; with him, there was no need for her to lie.
"I do." Vera’s voice was calm, "Even if he doesn’t like me, I’ve still fallen for him. Is that spineless?"
Miles turned around, looking at her tenderly, "How can liking someone be spineless? This is the first time you like someone, and with how wonderful you are, he is bound to like you too."
Vera recalled the countless days and nights filled with anxiety for liking him.
It ultimately belonged solely to her memories.
As for Winston Valentine... his heart holds Cecilia Vaughn, probably leaving no room for her.
Suppressing the bitterness in her heart, she smiled at him, "Thank you."
"Why don’t you give Aunt Hayes a call, so she doesn’t worry."
Vera nodded, picked up her phone, fearing Hannah Hayes would say something surprising, Vera walked to the outside hall.
"It’s good that you’re alright, you saw Miles, right? Remember to mention Mark and Zoe to him."
"Mom, can you stop playing matchmaker?" Vera said in displeasure, "If he really has the ability, he should pursue them himself!"
"What ability does he have? I asked him to invite Zoe over for dinner, but he couldn’t even bring her!"
Vera rubbed her temples.
Hannah Hayes: "Since you’re alright, don’t forget to bring Miles back for lunch."
Before Vera could respond, Hannah Hayes hung up the phone.
Returning to the room, Vera saw Miles sitting at the table, continuing to transcribe for her.
"I can do it myself."
Miles didn’t even lift his head, "Didn’t I help you transcribe when we were kids?"
Vera felt embarrassed, "How is that the same?"
When grandpa had her copy medical books as a child, she didn’t want to; she would always act spoiled to have him help.
"What’s different?" Miles laughed, looking at her, "My writing is still prettier than yours."
Vera looked at him helplessly, unable to refute.
After all, he was always outstanding in studies, and his writing was indeed beautiful, even grandpa praised him while he was alive.
With Miles transcribing for her, Vera sorted through other materials.
Simon Warren remained in a coma, and when he would wake up was still unknown.
Meanwhile, the police hadn’t found anything in his clinic.
Vera had organized most of the patients’ files, made several calls, but the moment she asked about the patients, the other party was very resistant, unwilling to discuss further.
After facing multiple rejections, Vera decided to visit in person after organizing them.
When Winston Valentine arrived at the clinic, he saw them — one sitting at the desk transcribing, the other sorting items at the cabinet. The scene was harmonious indeed.
"Knock knock knock!"
He tapped on the door beside him.
Vera turned around, surprised, "Why are you here?"
Winston stepped forward and took the items from her arms, "I wasn’t allowed to help you find an assistant; turns out you’ve found free labor already."
His tone was emotionless, Vera explained, "I hurt my finger, Miles is helping me out temporarily."
Winston’s eyes darkened, placing the items aside, he pulled her hand, "Is it serious?"
Vera shook her head, "Just a cut from the glass."
Winston looked at her bandaged wound, "Does it still hurt?" 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Vera pulled back her hand, "It no longer hurts."
Winston held her other hand, glanced at Miles, "Since Counselor Monroe is so willing to help, I’ll be taking Vera with me."
Miles heard the sarcasm in his words but ignored it.
Vera hadn’t even reacted when Winston already led her out, not forgetting her coat.
At the door, Winston helped her put on the coat.
Vera hurriedly said, "My mom asked me to return to The Yves Family for lunch."
"Perfect, I haven’t had a meal at The Yves Family in ages."
Winston planning to have a meal at The Yves Family? Apart from their wedding day, he never had a meal at The Yves Family.
Winston let her in the car and then called Walter Lowell before sitting beside her.
Vera called Hannah Hayes again, likely preparing ingredients in the kitchen as there was no answer.
She could hardly tell Winston; originally, she was supposed to bring Miles back. Who knows if he’d make something of it?
Seeing her tense, Winston grabbed her hand, "What’s there to be nervous about? The one who should be nervous is me."
Vera was puzzled, "What do you have to be nervous about?"
He never regarded The Yves Family.
Winston squeezed her hand, "The feeling is different."
"What’s different?"
Winston didn’t explain further.
On the way, Vera tried calling Hannah Hayes again, but there was still no answer.
Arriving outside The Yves Villa.
The two got out of the car.
Walter Lowell was already waiting outside, with several people behind him holding gifts.
Winston even straightened his clothes.
Vera had no choice but to unlock the door with her fingerprint, bringing Winston inside, hoping her mom would act accordingly.
Hannah Hayes heard the commotion outside and didn’t come out, saying from the kitchen, "Miles, let Vera chat with you for a while, I’ll make some of your favorite dishes, then we can start."
Winston’s gaze fell on Vera, his expression darkened, "You were originally returning with Miles?"
"He’s visiting my parents, so..."
Winston loosened his tie, sitting on the couch.
Hannah Hayes saw no one responded, poked her head out the kitchen, freezing with a smile upon seeing Winston, "Winston Valentine, why are you here?"
Her words carried a hint of disdain that she wasn’t aware of.
Harry Yves happened to come down from the second floor, Vera blocking his view, he could only vaguely see a man sitting on the sofa, cheerfully saying, "Miles, come, come, let’s continue the chess game with uncle."
Vera looked at the increasingly sulky expression on the man’s face, helplessly giving Harry Yves a look.
Winston stood up, looked at Harry Yves, and politely called him "Father-in-law."
Harry Yves nearly tumbled down the stairs.
Adjusting his glasses, "Winston... Winston Valentine, why are you here?"
The tone lacked any trace of delight, only shock.
Winston hugged Vera’s waist, whispering to her ear, "Looks like Miles gets treated better at The Yves Family than I do."
"My parents are just more familiar with him..."
"So, it seems I’m an unworthy son-in-law." Winston chuckled, "If I hadn’t gone to the clinic today, would you really have brought him for lunch at The Yves Family?"
