Chapter 106: Chapter 106: The Greatest Grievance Came from You

Everyone’s gaze was on her.

Vera Yves looked calmly at Stella Valentine, "Talking to me? You’re not qualified!"

"Vera, you..."

"I’m here to see Old Mrs. Valentine." Vera glanced around at everyone, "Only those who can speak on her behalf are qualified to talk to me."

Stella Valentine, upon hearing this, was so angry she nearly exploded, "Vera, who do you think you are? You think you’re fit to see my grandmother!"

Jean Taylor pulled her behind and sized up Vera, "Vera, you and Winston are already divorced. Do you think the old lady still favors and dotes on you like she used to?"

Samantha Warren stepped forward, "From now on, don’t come in and out of The Valentine Family so easily, lest people gossip."

Vera chuckled, "The righteous are not afraid of slanted shadows. I haven’t become anyone’s mistress, so why fear gossip?"

Samantha Warren’s chest heaved with anger.

Vera’s voice was indifferent, "I’m here specifically today to tell the old lady that Winston and I are divorced, so she should stop sending me things! After all, I don’t want to have anything to do with The Valentine Family anymore."

"What did Grandma send you?" Stella Valentine asked anxiously.

Vera smiled, "Why should I tell you?"

Stella Valentine was so angry her teeth were itching.

Cecilia Vaughn walked out from the corner, glaring coldly at Vera, "The Valentine Family is not somewhere people like you can come and go as they please. Someone, escort her out!"

Two servants hesitated to step forward, "Miss Yves..."

Vera said indifferently, "Indeed, I don’t want to stay in such a den of iniquity!"

Vera turned around to leave.

Winston Valentine descended from the second floor, "I invited her."

Upon hearing his voice, Vera didn’t stop, continuing towards the door.

Winston Valentine caught up and blocked her path.

Cecilia Vaughn anxiously asked, "Winston, why did you invite her? You’re already divorced..."

"Grandma wants to see you."

Vera looked up at him, "Then let the old lady come to The Yves Family to find me!"

Vera wanted to leave, Winston Valentine grabbed her wrist, "I’m afraid that’s not possible."

"Let go."

"Come upstairs with me and I’ll let go."

Vera, not wanting to persist against him, withdrew her hand, turned, and walked upstairs with Winston Valentine following behind her.

Cecilia Vaughn followed, Winston Valentine just gave her a cold look, "Since when did The Valentine Family fall under your command?"

Cecilia Vaughn found her back chilled by his gaze.

Vera reached the door of Old Mrs. Valentine’s room, before she could knock, Winston Valentine had already caught up and opened the door for her.

Old Mrs. Valentine was lying on the bed, and upon seeing Vera enter, struggled to sit up, Winston Valentine stepped forward to assist her.

"Vera, you really came?" Old Mrs. Valentine extended a hand to her.

Vera hesitated before approaching and taking her hand.

"Grandma, I’ve found her for you, can you go to the hospital with me now?"

Vera looked at Winston Valentine in surprise, "Is Grandma ill?"

Old Mrs. Valentine coughed a few times, "I know my own body. Back when I was sick, I went to the hospital countless times, your grandpa found countless experts for me, none of it worked. It was Vera’s grandpa who saved me."

Old Mrs. Valentine gripped her hand, "I don’t trust anyone else, Vera, Grandma only believes in you, what hospital, Grandma isn’t going anywhere."

Only then did Vera notice how pale Old Mrs. Valentine looked, not like someone pretending to be sick.

Winston Valentine looked helpless, "Grandma, aren’t you going back on your word?"

Old Mrs. Valentine snorted, "At your wedding, you said you’d never leave Vera. Isn’t that also going back on your word!"

Vera looked a bit awkward, "Grandma, may I take your pulse first?"

Old Mrs. Valentine released her hand.

Vera checked the pulse of the old lady, asked her a few questions, and spoke with her for a while until she fell asleep, then left the room with Winston Valentine.

"After our divorce, Grandma’s health began to decline. The other day, after coming back from The Summit, she caught a cold. Dr. Warren came to see her and said she might not make it through this winter. She hasn’t taken her medication for days, insisting I call you over."

"So you deliberately deceived me into coming? Those things were sent by you too?"

"Those were intended for you by Grandma."

"She was in distress, coupled with old problems in her lungs flaring up again. She needs oxygen; ideally, she should be sent to the hospital today." Vera’s voice was icy, "It’s cold, and she’s old, it can’t be delayed any longer."

Winston Valentine looked deeply at her, "If she were willing to go to the hospital, I wouldn’t have waited until now."

Vera coldly replied, "Whether she goes to the hospital is your family’s concern, it’s got nothing to do with me."

"Her temper, as you know, no one in The Valentine Family can decide for her."

"What’s that got to do with me?"

"Considering how much she cared for you, could you at least humor her a bit?"

"Was it me she cared for? It was merely because I was Winston Valentine’s wife." Vera remained composed, "Let your Cecilia Vaughn humor her."

Winston Valentine paused, "Do you want her condition to worsen?"

"These are your family’s problems." Vera gave him a cold look, "I don’t want to become the subject of gossip, and besides... I need to consider Miles’s feelings. Since we’re divorced, I don’t wish for us to have any ties whatsoever."

Winston Valentine’s expression darkened, "I can speak to Miles Monroe. I won’t make it difficult for you."

"Winston Valentine, you might not care, but I care. If possible, I would rather you never appear in front of me or him my whole life."

"Do you care about his feelings that much?"

"Of course, normal people care about their boyfriend’s feelings."

Boyfriend!

Winston Valentine clenched his fists tightly, "A man who drives you to drink late at night, what sort of boyfriend is he!"

"What do you count as now?" Vera sneered, "What right do you have to say such things? My greatest grievances growing up were caused by you."

Vera turned away, "Please arrange for someone to take away those things from The Yves Family and administer oxygen to her, and send her to the hospital by tonight at the latest. Regarding anything else, I can’t help."

Vera spoke without hesitation, then left decisively.

Sitting in the car, Vera hesitated a bit. Back when Grandpa treated Old Mrs. Valentine’s illness, she accompanied him, so naturally, she knew her condition well.

At her age, the relapse would be tough to overcome, even with hospitalization.

But what does that have to do with her?

Vera called Hannah Hayes, asking her not to move those things.

"That Old Mrs. Valentine is really something. Why is she suddenly sending you so much jewelry? I looked it up just now, this set is worth over ten million. She wouldn’t still be hoping for you to remarry Winston, would she?"

Vera felt a bit agitated.

She went to the hospital, Miles Monroe’s room was bustling, presumably his colleagues from the law firm.

Zoe Monroe spotted Vera and waved with a smile, "Vera, you’re finally back! You don’t know, my cousin has been out of sorts without you!"

Miles Monroe looked helplessly at her, then smiled at Vera, "She’s exaggerating."

Vera was a bit embarrassed by the teasing.

Someone asked, "Counselor Monroe, who is this..."

Zoe Monroe replied with a smile, "This is Counselor Monroe’s childhood sweetheart, and my future cousin-in-law, Vera."
