Chapter 105: Chapter 105: You Will Always Be My Number One

Miles Monroe wrapped an arm around her shoulder, looking at the man in front of him, "Thank you, President Valentine, for bringing her back to me."

Vera Yves thought she was hallucinating.

"What are you doing here?" Vera instinctively reached for the wound on his side, but because she was drunk, she missed and ended up groping him randomly.

Miles clamped her hand, "Vera, I’m fine."

Winston Valentine looked at her anxious expression, his heart aching, and said coldly, "Letting a woman get drunk alone late at night, you are truly an unworthy boyfriend!"

"A cheating man has no right to say that to me."

Winston Valentine’s eyes darkened, "My being worthless doesn’t mean you’re any good. Since you’ve decided to be with her, you should settle past emotional debts!"

"We’re divorced, Vera’s matters are no longer your concern."

Winston Valentine clenched his fist.

Vera felt a wetness on her hand; the wound had opened!

She sobered up halfway, "Miles, are you crazy? How can you sneak out of the hospital now!"

"Just a little blood, it’s fine." Miles looked apologetic, "You wouldn’t answer my calls, so I had to come here and wait for you."

Winston Valentine sneered, what a pity play!

Vera anxiously pressed the elevator button, but her steps were unsteady due to being drunk; Miles followed, half wrapping her in his arms.

The elevator doors opened, taking them inside.

Vera was only focused on his wounds, feeling dizzy, not noticing how intimate their actions were.

Winston Valentine was left outside the elevator, suppressing the urge to pull her out, he could only watch as the two left.

Vera found out that Miles drove himself from the hospital, and cursed him as a madman again.

They took a cab to the hospital, and it was past 4 a.m. by the time they got his wound treated again.

"Vera, I didn’t know Jane Shea would come; she suddenly kissed me, and I couldn’t dodge."

"You don’t need to explain to me..."

"Since I’ve decided to pursue you, I need you to understand that I am not two-timing."

Vera looked at the knife wound on his side, her mind flashed with Jane Shea’s taunting gaze, a surge of impulse ran through her, unstoppable and fueled by alcohol.

"Miles, do you really like me?"

"Vera, I never treat emotions as a game."

"Do you know? Seeing Jane Shea kiss you, my first feeling was fear."

Vera said softly, "A reflexive fear, maybe you never noticed, but in the past, you chose her countless times over me."

"I drank a lot, thought about many things, my mind is still a bit confused... I just ask you..." Vera looked into his eyes, "If we are together, can you promise to always put me first?"

Miles looked at her cautious eyes, pain flickered as he caressed her cheek, "Vera, I know you mind Jane Shea’s presence, I can’t deny the past between us, but I promise, you will always be my priority from now on."

Vera closed her eyes, secretly exhaling in relief.

"Do you want to sleep a bit?" Miles motioned for her to lie on the hospital bed, it was spacious.

Vera shook her head, "I’ll sleep on the sofa."

"I’ll take the sofa, or we both sleep on the bed."

Miles’s attitude was not to be refused.

Vera’s head was still dizzy, he was a patient, how could he sleep on the sofa? 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

She went to the other side, lay on the bed with her clothes on.

Miles wanted to cover her with the quilt.

Vera, worried about his wound, pulled the quilt over herself, the next second, Miles held her hand.

Vera hesitated a bit, didn’t pull away, and closed her eyes.

With too much alcohol, sleepiness quickly overcame her, in the dream she saw Grandpa Yves, still with his gentle demeanor, kindly treating patients.

In a blink, he turned into a cold corpse; if not for those events, Grandpa would never have died.

In her dreams, someone gently patted her back, Vera gradually calmed down.

Warm fingertips wiped away the tears at the corner of her eyes, "Vera, I’m sorry."

Zoe Monroe saw Vera lying on the hospital bed early in the morning, thought she was seeing things, just about to speak, Miles gestured her to keep silent.

Zoe Monroe smiled subtly, mouthed, "I’ll go get breakfast for you two."

Vera slept groggily, vaguely hearing voices, but was too tired, couldn’t open her eyes.

"Miles Monroe, are you trying to infuriate me?"

"You might as well stay abroad!"

"So many wealthy ladies, not a single one appealing to you?"

"’Shh’ nothing! You even brought someone onto a bed..."

The voice faded away.

When Vera woke up, it was already noon.

The hospital room was empty, Vera hurriedly put on her shoes, grabbed her coat, was walking to the door when she bumped into Miles returning with lunch.

"Wash up first, then come eat."

"I have things to do..."

"What’s more important than taking care of me?"

Vera took a deep breath, "I drank too much last night."

Miles smiled and pinched her cheeks, "So you should know how tough it was taking care of a drunkard, now it’s your turn to look after me."

Vera slapped his hand away, went into the washroom, bits of last night’s memories floated back.

Out of the washroom, Vera saw Miles already leaning on the bed, walked over, lunch was abundant.

"What do you want to eat? I’ll help you with it."

"I can eat myself." Miles looked at her slightly pale face, "But you, haven’t eaten since last night, hurry up and eat something."

Vera ate quietly, preoccupied, the meal tasted like nothing.

"I’ve already contacted the media that reported on Grandpa Yves back then."

Vera looked up at him.

"The matter is complicated, at the start indeed someone was pushing things in the background, but later, as things fermented, most media were just exploiting the hype."

Vera told Miles what that woman said.

Miles’s expression grew deep, "Vera, I’ll send people to investigate the remaining patient’s families again, promise me, don’t go alone and risk yourself, okay?"

Vera now when she closed her eyes, she could still see that man wielding a knife at her; she nodded.

"Are you sober now?"

Vera was stunned for a while, "I..."

Her phone rang, Vera breathed a sigh of relief, "I’ll go answer the call first."

Vera went outside the hospital room to answer the call.

Hannah Hayes sounded a bit angry, "Vera, The Valentine Family seems to be going crazy, suddenly sending lots of stuff to our house, come back and have a look!"

Vera told Miles, then rushed back to The Yves Family.

In the living room, there were piles of gifts and a strange man standing by.

"Hello, Miss Yves, these are all sent by Old Mrs. Valentine, she specifically instructed to gift you her properties free of charge, if you have time this afternoon, you can come with me to settle the paperwork."

Vera dialed Old Mrs. Valentine, but Winston Valentine picked up, "Grandma is not convenient to answer the phone now."

Vera gripped the phone, "She wants to give me her properties."

"I know."

"I don’t want them."

Winston Valentine was silent for a moment, "Why don’t you come to the old house and tell her face to face."

"Do you think I don’t have the courage to go?"

Winston Valentine’s voice carried a hint of fatigue, "Guess if I tell her you don’t want them, will she hit my left cheek or the right?"

"Give her the phone."

"She’s not convenient to pick up."

Vera felt her stomach twist with anger, hung up the phone, directly drove to The Valentine Family’s old house, the security guard at the gate saw it was her and let her through immediately.

Vera entered the living room, inside were quite a few people, seemed like they were discussing matters.

Seeing Vera, Stella Valentine leapt up first, "Vera? What are you doing at The Valentine Family? Get out!"
