Chapter 104: Chapter 104: Can’t Hold Back All Night

The woman guiltily said, "Don’t mention the pharmacy. I told William that this money is hush money and he shouldn’t take it. He said since the person is already dead, why not take it anyway. Later, he went to the clinic to make a fuss, actually wanting to get more money from them."

"Who knew, later many people went to make a fuss, and the matter escalated. Old Mr. Yves remained unmoved, and even alerted the police. Afraid the money would be discovered, he didn’t dare to go again."

Vera Yves’ nails dug into her palm, her voice cold, "Do you know that for a sum of money, you ruined a doctor’s lifetime reputation!"

"I never touched that money, it was all William... Miss Yves, you promised to give me money! You can’t go back on it!"

Vera Yves stood up, "Aren’t you afraid I’ll send you to prison!"

The woman’s face turned pale.

Vera Yves stood up and left the room, leaning against the window. The cold wind blew in, gradually calming her down.

On WeChat, Zoe Monroe sent over Miles Monroe’s ward number—"Vera, my cousin keeps saying he’s in pain, even after taking painkillers, what should I do?"

Such a long and deep knife wound, it undoubtedly hurts, but she knows he wouldn’t vocalize his pain.

Vera Yves stood by the window for a while, her mind filled with images of his bleeding wound.

She returned to the room and grabbed Linda Young’s car keys, "I’m leaving first. You and Nathan Norton catch a ride back tomorrow morning."

Linda Young smiled as she looked at her, "Couldn’t hold out for even one night?"

"He got hurt saving me."

"So you’re going back to offer yourself to him?"

Vera Yves blushed slightly, ignored her, and walked out of the room.

When she arrived at the hospital, it was already past one in the morning.

Zoe Monroe worried about Penelope Langley being in the hospital, making Vera Yves’ visit inconvenient, volunteered to stay overnight, only to fall asleep early in a corner.

Miles Monroe was in too much pain to fall asleep, his mouth dry, and struggled to sit up to reach for the water cup on the bedside.

"Let me help you."

Miles Monroe looked up, his expression indifferent, "What are you doing here?"

Jane Shea removed her sunglasses, picked up the water cup, and handed it to him, "Why do you think I’m here?"

Miles Monroe did not take it but leaned against the headboard, speaking coldly, "We ended a long time ago, you know I don’t like dragging things out."

"You clearly know, I said we broke up just out of pique!" Jane Shea’s eyes reddened as she looked at him, "Haven’t these past two years just been waiting for me to bow down to you? I’ve already done it, what more do you want?"

"I haven’t been waiting for you these past two years..."

Suddenly, Jane Shea leaned over, Miles Monroe was unprepared and instinctively turned his head aside, her lips landed on the corner of his mouth.

Vera Yves pushed open the door and saw them kissing.

Hearing the noise, Miles Monroe pushed Jane Shea away and looked toward the door.

Vera Yves looked slightly embarrassed, "I’m sorry, I should have knocked."

Vera Yves turned around, hating her impulsiveness and stupidity.

"Vera!" Miles Monroe tried to get up, but Jane Shea held him down, "You still have injuries, where are you going?"

Vera Yves quickly left, as if something menacing was behind her. She pressed the elevator button, praying for the door to open quickly.

"Vera." Miles Monroe chased out of the ward.

"Ding!"

The elevator door opened, footsteps from behind got closer.

Jane Shea exclaimed, "Miles, your wound’s bleeding again!"

Vera Yves stepped into the elevator, saw Miles Monroe approaching and hesitated, facing Jane Shea’s provoking gaze, she pressed the elevator button.

With the two separated, Vera Yves felt she could finally breathe.

Leaving the hospital, Vera Yves drove to the quiet bar she often visited with Linda Young, her phone incessantly ringing, prompting her to turn it off altogether.

After downing a glass of alcohol, the oppressive feeling in her chest finally subsided, but her mind flashed back to the first time she ran into Miles Monroe and Jane Shea kissing.

On her eighteenth birthday, she was too nervous, drank too much, and threw up on Miles Monroe, losing the courage to give him the love letter she prepared.

She could only wait for his twenty-second birthday, which he didn’t celebrate at The Monroe Family but at a duplex apartment near his school.

Inviting many classmates and friends.

Everyone drank heavily and was rowdy, she dared not drink. After much effort to peel away a drunk Zoe Monroe, she saw Jane Shea on her tiptoes kissing him at the stairway corner.

Like a basin of cold water splashed over her.

Later, they played games, she was absent-minded, during Truth or Dare, she chose truth.

Saying out loud the feelings she suppressed for too long in the lively atmosphere, she said she had loved someone for a long time, but that person loved somebody else.

Jane Shea asked if that person was present.

Looking at Miles Monroe by Jane Shea’s side, she replied bitterly, "No."

Miles Monroe was quite vexed, "Seems like the little girl has really grown up."

Vera Yves drank another glass of alcohol, her mind flashing to her grandfather sitting at the desk sorting materials, how could those people...

She drank one glass after another, drinking excessively means she doesn’t have to think, doesn’t have to feel sad.

In a daze, she seemed to see Winston Valentine.

Vera Yves patted his face, it wasn’t a hallucination.

Looking at his face, Vera Yves remembered the things he and Cecilia Vaughn did, her stomach churned, and she couldn’t hold it in...

Winston Valentine couldn’t dodge, just took off his coat and tossed it aside.

Vera Yves instinctively wanted to escape but was pulled back by the man, fed some water, all of which she vomited out.

Winston Valentine scooped her up and held her across his arms, Vera Yves struggled fiercely, "Don’t touch me! You’re disgusting!"

Winston Valentine lowered his face, "Quite the villain asserting innocence first."

Unable to break free, Vera Yves fiercely bit his shoulder.

Winston Valentine remained unmoved, carried her out of the bar.

As her jaw grew sore from biting, Vera Yves finally let go, dizzy and feeling the world tilting, smelling the smoke on him, she frowned with disdain.

Winston Valentine stuffed her into the car and instructed the driver to head to the apartment.

Vera Yves struggled out of his embrace to reach the door, but couldn’t reach the handle, so she curled up into a ball.

Arriving at the apartment building, Vera Yves sobered up a bit, pushed open the door, and staggered forward.

Winston Valentine stepped forward to support her.

Vera Yves pushed him away, her arms soft and powerless, "I don’t want you to help me!"

"If I didn’t worry about you dying on the street with my ex-wife’s title, would you think I’d want to help you?"

Vera Yves pushed him harder, "Whether I live or die, what’s it to you? Don’t you wish I were dead?"

Winston Valentine supported her into the elevator, sighing silently, "I’m not that heartless, I hope you live a long life."

"And spend it watching you and Cecilia Vaughn happily together?"

Vera Yves laughed self-deprecatingly, "I admit, I used to have feelings for you."

Winston Valentine’s movements froze.

Vera Yves continued, "I thought after more than three years of marriage, you had feelings for me too. But during the divorce I realized how stupid I was."

"Now, the only feeling I have for you is disgust! So whatever you and Cecilia Vaughn do has no bearing on me, I just wish you’d disappear from my world, not show up randomly reminding me how foolish I used to be!"

"Ding!"

The elevator door opened.

Winston Valentine guided her out, Vera Yves didn’t want him to touch her and struggled.

The next second, someone pulled her over.
