Chapter 254: Fratricide of Rage-I

Registering all this information was far too much, but Cassius managed to understand it in the rush. In conclusion, Arabella’s birth was natural, but also not as part of her was imbued with the magic of the late witch. Her power was far stronger than any other witch, and that allowed her to break curses from the other sorcerers who had been cursed to spend the rest of their lives in the castle forever, unable to step out.

The evidence of Arabella’s success in breaking the curse was Ariel and Morpheus’s step sister.

Cassius then stopped talking as something dawned on him.

How many times had Arabella accidentally died?

Drowning and then hit by the vase by Iliza.

No.

What about before she stepped into the castle?

The day she was born, her father said that she’s a stillborn. Charles accused her birth mother for bringing her back to life by a potion but what if that was the opposite from the truth?

What if... her mother had put the curse on her to prevent her power from going awry before she was born? And when Arabella die from complication and came back alive, that broke the first part of the curse.

That means she has died three times and there was only three left.

Even then Cassius wasn’t sure. What if Arabella had an accident as a child and passed away? Until now she never noticed that she could come back from death, perhaps thinking that in every accident she was just lucky.

"Still there is one thing you say that doesn’t add up," Cassius frowned, "Why is it that some sorcerers could leave the castle, like you, but some others cannot including Morpheus?"

"N- No," Lastor bent his head down, "Most sorcerer sent by Morpheus could leave but under an oath. If they do not come back by the given time, they would die from the curse. Morpheus made this oath with magic after trying million of ways to leave the castle to no avail."

"You made an oath too?" Cassius narrowed his eyes as he was going to bring Lastor to the castle but now that the man couldn’t leave the castle for long, it was going to be... wait, does it even matter? In the end Arabella could simply break his curse.

"I- I did," answered Lastor with a brief stammer, "I took a loophole and pretended as though I wanted to be here to see the princess. Morpheus didn’t notice my true intention but by now he must have noticed it since I hid instead of following the rest of the sorcerers to meet you. He must be furious... ah, I still have around four months under the oath! So you don’t have anything to worry about."

When Cassius saw Lastor he had hurriedly pulled down his sleeve and showed the mark on his wrist which appeared like a clock tattooed on his skin but if he focused on the clock for a while, he could see it moving slightly. frёeωebɳovel.com

"A- Anyway," Lastor then slowly stood up when he did, he became startled upon seeing how tall and towering Cassius was up close.

He shut his eyes and turned away, muttering, "We need to find a way out of here..."

"The fogs, it was caused by the sorcerers right?" Cassius walked out of the place and Lastor followed behind him carefully.

"Yes, it’s a fog caused by breaking a potion named Wonder. The potion when it touched the ground will turn into a hazy gray fogs filling an entire land and causing for those who stepped into the fog to lose their ways. They often uses this potion to kill vampires," Lastor then walked toward the cupboard in search for something to come out with a white pristine candlestick. "M- May you lit this up, Your highness?"

Cassius turned to the candle and sighed. He snapped his finger and once it didn’t do anything but when he did it the second time and with more force a sudden fire appeared in the candle, bursting bright into a red glow.

"Your power doesn’t know you as its master," Lastor muttered as he stared at the flame.

Cassius turned at him and smirked, "It’s disobedient. If I could punish it, perhaps it would finally listen to me like a good dog."

Lastor awkwardly followed his smile but then added, "I think we can fix it."

"Fix?" Cassius didn’t think this was a problem that could simply be "fixed" "And how would you suggest in fixing it? Hit it until it’s fixed?"

"No! I mean I think it’s not that your power is disobedient, it’s just didn’t know that you’re now its master. I can tell something is odd about you and that’s perhaps due to how your late mother had sacrificed you to the demon. The demon must have told you that if you manage to kill him in a fight, he promised to give you all his power in exchange for your physical heart. You won and you gave him your heart. In return he gave you the power but I suppose he died before giving you the power properly."

Cassius was taken aback a little as even all the other sorcerers were shocked yet Lastor spoke as if he had seen what had happened that day himself.

Then Lastor blinked and made an "ah!" face, "Your Highness, it’s not that I learned about this. I doubt anyone else in the castle knew how you got your power but they called me Lastor the Knowledgable because I bury my nose in books all my life and I stood by the witch the longest, learning a lot from her just by watching and hearing. She likes my presence you see, she says I’m useless but a good furniture."

That last sentence didn’t sound like a praise yet Lastor seemed proud of it.

"Besides my power can also looked back on the choices made by people in the past."

"So you can look into the past," Cassius raised his left eyebrow up.

"Yes! But I just need a few things to make sure I’m looking at the right past... Your Highness?"

"Then look to the past of this house," Cassius dangled the necklace he found that belonged to Hans. "Looked at this man’s past. I need to find out how he died."
