Chapter 252: Lastor The Knowledgable-I

Hans Monet’s body was nowhere to be found in this house, however, and judging by how there was no trace of a single living human being in this village, Cassius suspected that he was truly dead as Marissa had said.

But regardless, he needed to fulfill his younger sister’s wish—the wish to be buried beside her lover.

Cassius turned around, "Renard," then he stopped his words as the moment he had turned around, his loyal retainer, who had never strayed far away from him, had completely disappeared from the house.

With eyes narrowed, Cassius knew that Renard hadn’t left because he wanted to. There was something about the fog that felt unnatural, and perhaps that was what caused for them to be separated, perhaps on purpose, probably because this was what they wanted from the start- to separate him from his men so killing him would be easier.

Unfortunately for them, Cassius had never once relied on the number of people he brought. Instead, he relied on himself and found it much more comfortable if he had to go alone.

He took the necklace from the table and walked deeper into the house, stopping by the fireplace that had turned to ashes and the portraits placed on the top of it. He could see the face of a person so similar to Hans, though his face appeared older alongside with his human wife and his human child.

This man was possibly the one behind Hans’s death, the brother of Hans, who despised vampires.

Cassius continued his path to the staircase, climbing upward when he saw a few rooms. He inspected most of the rooms, noting them as a bedroom for children and the master bedroom. After a few walks, he stopped by the crib that was covered with blood.

Frowning, Cassius came closer to see the body of a small baby, wrapped in a clean towel but bloodied. It was long dead when Cassius came to inspect it, and judging by the blade that was caked with dried blood, the baby was a vampire.

This was the baby that the couple had taken in... then killed.

Cassius gritted his teeth, finally coming to understand that the hatred between humans and vampires had gone far too deep and to unroot this would take decades, or even worse, centuries to fix.

Just as he was about to walk away, he heard a noise from above him.

His head snapped upward, and without a single hesitation, he pierced his spear through the wooden floor. He then dragged the spear into a circle, which caused for the flooring to crack and fall. The person who had been hiding inside it also fell face first to the wooden floor. The man cried, rubbing his face and chin, then he stuck out his tongue as though trying to make sure it was still attached.

His face was covered in dusts and mud and his eyes were unmistakably green.

Seeing it, Cassius raised his spear, ready to slice through his neck which alerted the man.

"NO. NO! I’M NOT THE ENEMY!" The man cried, raising his hand over his neck that was already nicked by the spear.

He trembled and shuddered, lifting his dull red hair and that unruly as it curled deep into his face.

Cassius studied the sorcerer’s face without removing his spear that could clearly cut his neck if he were to move a single inch.

"Name." Cassius demanded.

"Lastor!" the sorcerer cried. "I- I came here because I knew you would come... but you weren’t supposed to be alone so it scared me okay?!"

Cassius raised his eyebrows, "And how do you know I would come here? Ah, so you were the one behind my sister’s death."

"NO!" Lastor cried out, he seemed like he was bitter for being accused and uttered quickly in succession, "I’m... I... I don’t follow Lord Morpheus."

Cassius who was interested in this information finally pulled his spear away from Lastor. He bent down to meet the younger man at an eye level and hummed, "What do you know?"

"You..." Lastor drawled. "You’re in love with the princess and today you were supposed to come with the princess here to find the person behind the death of your sister which happened a night ago."

Cassius’s eyes narrowed. Though his words sounded civil, Lastor could tell how murderous he was and how much he itched to kill the people who had caused Marissa a miserable death.

"Why am I supposed to be here with Arabella?" Cassius inquired with his demanding tone. "You spoke as if it had been written in the book of fate."

"No, it’s not written in the book of fate but..." Lastor rubbed his head, "I can’t explain to you well but I have the ability to see choices. It’s quite a weak power because it can’t see the future but I can see things that could happen. There was two choices today. If you came here with the princess and if you didn’t come with the princess. I really prayed that you would come with the princess because even though it would be dangerous, it would be far less dangerous then the outcome of you coming here to the village alone."

Cassius sighed as he heard Lastor blabbering quickly. He didn’t seem to know how weird his words sounded and how he didn’t make any sense to help the other person hearing him understand what he was saying.

"So you have the ability to see the future in choices. But it’s not set because the person whose future you see still have to choose between the two choices."

"YES!" Lastor said with a firm nod. "I thought with your personality you would bring the Princess here. If not, we need to hurry and find her."

"Hurry and find her?" Cassius finally confirmed that Lastor wasn’t on Morpheus’s side now, not because he spoke like a foolish lamb or because he claimed to not follow Morpheus. But rather because Lastor seemed to come with the purpose of helping them. freewebnøvel_com

"The Princess’s power," Lastor quickly spoke, "It seems that her mother had hid her power with an old spell. It’s an old spell but it’s quite strong, though not entirely strong..."

"Speak properly," Cassius snapped, annoyed, "Make your point."

"Ah... The more the princess dies, the spell that contained her power will break!" Lastor hurried, "There is only six times where she could die... and how many has it been since she’s been put in danger, your Highness?"
