Pandemonium.

Two of the Seven Thrones of the Demon Lords’ Council sat empty.

Lucifer stared dispassionately at the vacant seats before sweeping his gaze over the remaining four Demon Lords.

[Satan. Beelzebub. Belphegor. Leviathan.]

He let out a long sigh.

[Mammon’s seat is vacant.]

Mammon, who had been utterly devastated by Asmodeus, barely managed to retain his divinity and return to Hell. He had immediately informed Lucifer of what had happened.

But while Lucifer had been away dealing with Asmodeus and the Pantheon—

Mammon’s divine presence vanished entirely from Hell.

No one here was ignorant of what that meant.

[Who devoured Mammon? Speak honestly.]

A childlike figure sprawled across a soft pillow, clad in loose, oversized pajamas that looked ready to slip into sleep at any moment.

Belphegor, the Demon Lord of Sloth, lazily pointed to the side.

[Gluttony, obviously. That fat pig Beelzebub ate him. I saw it happen, Lucifer.]

At her words, an enormous mass of flesh snorted in irritation, glaring at her.

[You damn brat. You love snitching, don’t you? One day, I’ll tear you apart and feast on your flesh.]

[“You damn brat. You love snitching, don’t you?”]

Belphegor mimicked his voice in a tone so mocking it was unbearable.

Beelzebub couldn’t take it anymore and stood up in fury.

Lucifer sighed and waved a hand.

At that simple motion, Beelzebub froze mid-motion, while Belphegor shut her mouth.

[I know better than anyone that we don’t get along. But you morons. If you have a brain, then use it.]

Lucifer glared at them all with contempt.

[Mammon was devoured by Asmodeus. And the one wielding Asmodeus as a weapon is the so-called Saint. If we leave him unchecked, he will consume more faith than any god in the Abyss, Hell, or Heaven.]

The room fell into heavy silence.

[We have spent over 300 years pulling strings, waging a tug-of-war against Heaven and the Abyss. Do you truly want to let some outsider reap all the rewards?]

Beelzebub let out a series of long, frustrated sighs. Then, in a tone dripping with reluctance, he confessed the truth.

[Fine. I ate Mammon. Not that there was much left of him. Asmodeus was disgustingly thorough.]

[So it was you?]

Leviathan, the Demon Lord of Envy, gnawed at her fingernails with an irritated scowl.

Gaunt and skeletal, she looked like she had starved herself into near-death, her hollow eyes filled with nothing but jealousy and hatred as she glared at Beelzebub’s bloated form.

[I... I was going to devour him!! But this disgusting, snout-nosed pig got to him first!!]

[Leviathan. I have no interest in rotten food.]

[Say that again, I dare you.]

Lucifer had heard enough of their pitiful bickering.

His voice exploded in fury.

[Have you idiots already forgotten the plan?! We spent 300 years preparing to consume the human realm! We agreed that, when necessary, we would cooperate! Are you saying you’ll sit back and let Asmodeus devour it all instead?!]

Leviathan and Beelzebub hesitated at his furious outburst, but their glares toward each other didn’t waver.

Lucifer looked as if he wanted to rip every last one of them to shreds, but he swallowed his rage.

[Beelzebub. Since you consumed Mammon, you’ll be taking on a more difficult role. I want you to keep watch over the Wretch of the Abyss.]

[The Wretch of the Abyss? You mean the Evil God? Hasn’t he been quiet ever since his plans fell apart and he lost his fragment in the capital?]

[That’s exactly why he’s dangerous. You never know what he’s plotting in the shadows. And on top of that, he was the one who whispered those twisted words into the Saint’s ears while masquerading as a goddess of grace. There’s no way he’s just sitting around doing nothing.]

[Wasn’t watching the Abyss your job, Lucifer?]

Lucifer slammed his fist down onto the armrest of his throne.

[You moron. Do you think I want to babysit the heavens?! Asmodeus has strengthened the connection between Heaven and the mortal world! I can’t do anything else while keeping them blocked! I have to dedicate everything just to stopping them from interfering! And on top of that, I have to prevent Asmodeus from spilling the truth to the Saint!]

[And so you’re dumping it on me? That kind of worthless errand doesn’t suit me...]

Infernal hellfire flared around Lucifer’s body.

[Do I need to rip off that swollen gut of yours before you’ll listen? You devoured Mammon’s remnants and now refuse to work?]

Beelzebub shuddered.

[...Fine. Pride. I’ll do as you say.]

[Good.]

Lucifer extinguished his flames.

With an exhausted expression, he turned to the remaining three Demon Lords.

[Envy. Sloth. Wrath. You three will be in charge of corrupting the Saint Amayel.]

[To put Asmodeus back on the throne?]

[Exactly. That man is currently the single most powerful center of faith in existence. If we can turn him to Pandemonium’s side...]

Lucifer’s golden eyes gleamed with sinister ambition.

[Then the war that has lasted for 300 years will end. The balance will tip in our favor, all at once.]

The Demon Lords licked their lips.

Seizing the entire mortal realm for themselves.

There was no divinity in existence that wouldn’t covet such a prize.

[Remember this:] Lucifer warned.

[You cannot destroy his soul. Leave it intact. You may lure him with desire or break his mind through torture—I don’t care how. But under no circumstances can he be killed. He must be corrupted. Understand?]

Lucifer repeated himself for emphasis.

[You all understand what happens when a throne’s power loses its master, don’t you?]

That was enough to get the message across.

[Corrupting a human soul isn’t difficult.]

[The real issue is how much Asmodeus will resist.]

[Lucifer, you’re the one controlling Lust. Can’t you do something to help?]

Satan, Belphegor, and Leviathan each voiced their concerns, but Lucifer shook his head.

[Do you even understand how much faith Asmodeus has devoured? Not to mention, she ate Mammon on top of that. And I’m already occupied holding back the Pantheon. The only thing I can do is stop Lust from telling the Saint the truth. Beyond that, ★ 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 ★ I can’t interfere.]

[Damn it. This is going to be a pain in the ass.]

[His resistance will be extreme.]

[Which is exactly why I’m entrusting it to the three of you.] Lucifer’s tone was absolute.

[Two of you will suppress Asmodeus while the third corrupts the Saint’s soul.]

Satan scowled.

[It takes three of us to handle just one of them? That doesn’t sit well with me.]

[I don’t care if it offends your pride.] Lucifer’s voice dropped into a growl.

[This is a mission where failure is not an option. No mistakes. No second chances. So swallow your damn pride and do what needs to be done.]

Satan still looked displeased but eventually gave a slow nod.

[Fine. We’ll do it your way, Lucifer.]

[Good. Then this meeting is adjourned.]

Lucifer was well aware of how dangerous it was to gather the Demon Lords in one place for longer than necessary.

[Satan. Belphegor. Leviathan. Do not let your minds wander. Focus only on corrupting the Saint. If any of you try something reckless and ruin everything... I will not let it slide. Think about all you’ve invested so far.]

It was his final warning.

But none of the Demon Lords answered.

Normally, they would have left immediately, unable to stand the sight of each other, but today, Wrath, Envy, and Sloth remained where they were.

They glared at each other with pure disdain, their expressions twisted in contempt.

[I feel sick just looking at your disgusting faces. Let’s get this over with. We need to divide our roles.]

[Is there even a need to divide them? It’s obvious who does what.]

Belphegor shrugged at Satan’s remark.

[Satan and Leviathan, you two track down the Saint and focus on suppressing Asmodeus. As long as you two keep Lust in check, I’ll take care of corrupting the Saint’s soul.]

Both Satan and Leviathan immediately scowled in irritation.

[Belphegor. You’re getting the easiest role.]

[You lazy bitch. You expect us to run around like crazed boars while you take the most comfortable job?]

As the two fumed, Belphegor let out a yawn and lazily waved her hand.

[Then how about this? Satan and I will handle Lust, and you can be the one to corrupt the Saint’s soul, Leviathan.]

[Ah... That’s...]

[What’s the matter?]

Belphegor’s voice turned teasing.

[You’ve always been jealous of Asmodeus. Can you really resist the urge to destroy her the moment you see her face inside the Saint’s soul? Even if you can hold back now, will you still be able to when she’s right in front of you?]

Leviathan clenched her teeth but said nothing.

Belphegor turned to Satan next.

[Or what, Satan? Do you want to be the one to corrupt him? If that annoyingly pure-hearted Saint keeps resisting, can you honestly say you won’t lose your temper and crush his soul?]

Still no response.

Belphegor stretched her arms with a smirk.

[I have no desire to get on Lucifer’s bad side. And let’s be real—I’m better at corrupting souls than either of you. Think about it. During the Celestial War 300 years ago, how many Saints, Priestesses, and Heroes did I drag down?]

Satan and Leviathan had no counterargument.

[Damn it. We don’t have a choice, do we?]

[Fine. Sloth, you handle the Saint’s corruption.]

[Should’ve agreed from the start. Yaaaawn...]

Belphegor let out another exaggerated yawn.

Satan and Leviathan’s faces twisted in frustration.

[You lazy bitch. No matter how I think about it, it still feels like you’re dumping the hard work on us while keeping the easy job for yourself.]

Leviathan’s grumble earned a nod of agreement from Satan.

Belphegor simply shrugged.

[Not wrong. I hate dealing with tedious work. But that doesn’t mean I won’t help.]

[What do you mean?]

[Wouldn’t it be better for four of us to handle this instead of three?]

A grin spread across Belphegor’s lips.

[I’ll lend you something from my collection. One of my best pieces. You can use it to track down and subdue the Saint. That way, I won’t just be taking the easy job, right?]

Satan and Leviathan exchanged curious glances.

Belphegor had corrupted more of the Pantheon’s champions than anyone.

If she claimed something was her “best piece,” it had to be something extraordinary.

[Which god’s Chosen is it?]

[Not a Chosen.]

[Then what?]

[A divinity itself.]

[What?!]

[Among the twenty-four divine aspects of the Pantheon, I have one that fell to the mortal realm. I sealed it inside a human vessel and kept it locked away in my collection. It’s my most prized possession.]

Satan and Leviathan’s eyes widened in shock.

[You captured an actual divinity?]

[I did. But don’t worry—I completely broke it. It belongs to me now.]

Their excitement was evident as they impatiently urged her to show them.

Belphegor’s grin widened as she licked her lips.

[Alright. Let me introduce you to the War Goddess of the Pantheon—Velia’s Divinity.]

But then—

Belphegor froze.

Her body stiffened.

Then, for the first time in centuries, her half-lidded eyes opened completely.

Seeing her fully awake sent a chill down Satan and Leviathan’s spines.

[...She escaped. Just now.]

[What?!]

[Ah, fuck! It’s Asmodeus’s fault!!]

Belphegor grabbed a pillow and ripped it apart in fury.

Her now fully open eyes began to bleed inky, black tears.

[That goddamn light pillar in Scrap Yard—it shook the entire spiritual realm! While my attention was divided, Velia took advantage of the chaos to break my control and flee! That worthless, half-broken divine wretch!!]

Her voice shook with raw fury.

[Change of plans. Satan. Leviathan. Help me track down my escaped prize. You need to send your followers after her as well.*]

[The hell are you talking about?]

[Finding the Saint is more important. Your stupid collection piece can wait—]

[We need four of us for this! If I can reabsorb Velia’s divinity, it’ll be so much easier to corrupt the Saint! Think about how violently Asmodeus will resist—Velia will make breaking him so much easier!]

Satan and Leviathan hesitated.

[*Besides, if you don’t help me recover her, I won’t help you with the Saint. You two can figure it out yourselves. I don’t care if Lucifer chews me out for it—I’ll *walk away.**]

[...Shit. Fine. Just stop looking at me like that.]

Under the weight of Belphegor’s murderous glare, Satan and Leviathan could do nothing but sigh and nod.

And so, their plans shifted.

The Saint’s corruption was put on hold.

For now, their goal was to track down Velia—

Or rather, the human vessel containing the divinity of the War Goddess.

Three Demon Lords began to move.
