The Young master's fake bride and her lucky system-Chapter 534: The game’s strange orders.
Chapter 534: The game’s strange orders.
Even with a deadly monster running their way Alix remained cool and composed. Sweat was trickling down her back as she kept her hand steady on the trigger, taking one shot after another. Each of her shots aimed for the head of the monster, it’s most vulnerable body part she realized because it was trying to shield itself.
"Ten seconds until it’s right on top of you." Her system warned.
Alix didn’t flinch at the warning, she remained focused because that was the key. Out of the blue, the monster stopped and smiled cunningly, rather than engage her physically, it sent a blast of blue fire her way.
Without waiting, both women jumped up and turned to run while protecting themselves in full shields. The monster was faster and more cunning than she anticipated.
"Keep shooting...." Alix shouted.
She had barely got the words out when she was grabbed by the neck and lifted up into the air like a small rag doll. Finally, she came face to face with the monster and saw it’s face up close.
It was really translucent, almost like a ghost. A bullet hit her shield from a distance and more followed, taking her attention from the looks of the behemoth. Other players didn’t care about her, they would kill her too as long she was in their way.
"Don’t waste time, shoot it." The system yelled at her.
Alix ignored the pain coming from the tight squeeze the monster had on her neck and she put the mouth of the gun up the monsters nose and fired until all her bullets run out.
The monster roared, stumbled around blindly and tossed her away. Her body crashed into the broken parts of a space ship and the pain inflicted on her back almost sent her in temporary shock. There was no time to dwell on the pain as she grabbed the ice bomb and exploded it at once, hoping that Dark Death had followed her instructions.
For an ice bomb, it went off with a bang greater than any explosion she had ever encountered in a game so far. The entire broken rift that was still standing trembled and a wave of cold swept through it. Everyone and everything that was touched by the cold froze. The now silent rift had suddenly turned into a winter wonderland with snow falling down.
Alix stood up and felt pain in her legs so she limped for a few steps and looked around. As she expected, the players and monster, nothing was moving with the exception of her partner Dark Death. Both of them had taken specially custom made potions to prevent them from freezing with everyone else.
Dark Death was pointing the laser at the monster but she was not even sure about what she was doing.
"Alix.." she called out worriedly.
The ice that was holding the monster in place was beginning to crack. They had a small moment of reprieve but what was next?
"Keep the laser on the monster, i came up with this plan to freeze the monster from the inside just in case it was impenetrable from the outside. Lets melt the head and get the core quickly before others join the party."
They both activated the flying abilities of their shoes and went to the monster quickly. It was as huge as an ice sculpture. Even though it was frozen, it was still alive and they could see its eyes moving around within the ice. Those lightning like sparks were still going off in there and Alix was sure that it was trying to melt the ice and free itself before the ice inside it’s body made its way up its head.
Both of them sat on either side of the monster and Dark Death started applying heat with a small device that was using radiation similar to the one the monsters in this world gave off.
"Company, you have company and you are running out of time." The system warned Alix.
Alix put the heating device away and got her sword instead.
"We have no time Dark death, let’s just cut the head off." she suggested.
The words had just escaped her lips when a bullet went whizzing past her head and took off a small piece of the tip of Dark Death’s ear.
"Fuck." Dark Death winced.
Both of them turned and saw newly arrived players heading their way, flying through the air and firing at them. It was none other than the despicable elf and his right hand partner the necromancer. Just as Alix had anticipated, they had been watching and waiting for someone to do the dirty work and then they could swoop in and collect the reward.
Alix activated her shields, protecting them both and concentrated on the task of beheading the monster. While she worked on one end of the neck, Dark death worked on the other and in thirty seconds, they were finished.
"Open it up and get the core." Alix told Dark Death.
She got her guns out to deal with the annoyances that were shooting at them persistently. She would teach them not to mess with her, the target queen. freēnovelkiss.com
With two shots, she took out the two annoyances with precise shots to their foreheads. In the meantime, Dark Death was peeling back the now soft skin of the gigantic head of the monster. She was skillful with the blade like a butcher skinning a pig.
"It’s glowing Alix, you gotta come and take a look at it. You have got to feel this, i sense so much power." she called out.
She had barely opened up most of it as the head of the monster was the size of ten round balloons tied together.
When Alix joined her, she took off her glove to feel the core with her bare hand and that’s when her character froze. The head and frozen body of the monster disappeared into thin air and two sealed boxes appeared in front of them.
[Congratulations duo partners Alix and Dark Death on your victory on the fourth world. Please drop your custom weapons on the ground, leave behind the extra ice bomb, pick up the loot and evacuate the broken rift in thirty seconds.]
The congratulatory message was not unusual, the request for them to abandon their custom weapons however was unusual. What did their weapons have to do anything?
She was certain that the developers had seen her making improvements to these weapons so why did they want them? Why were they asking for her extra ice bomb as well? It was a very strange order.
"Do as you are told and get out, your friend Mantis is back." her system warned.
Alix was disgruntled and suspicious but she left everything as instructed.
"See you on the fifth world boos." A happy Dark Death logged out.
She was just happy as lark to take whatever had been given and be labeled a champion.
Alix was not as happy and she looked at her custom made weapons one last time, grabbed her loot and then logged out as well. She was still disappointed that she had not touched, taken a close look or got a chance to steal the core of the final boss.
Never before had any body part of a final boss disappeared before they could retrieve what was desired or taken a close look. They had been told to get the cores so why not let them take this core out?
"What was that?" she asked the system when she disconnected.
