the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart-Chapter 856: Now That You Have My Brother’s Favor, Can’t You Bully Me Too?
At dinner, Delphine unusually saw Bessie Leclair. Bessie had cut her hair into a chic short style and permed it into small curls like a pear blossom. With her skin tanned to a honey color, she looked like the trendy "tanned beauty" of the day.
Bessie had returned to get some things. She went upstairs, grabbed her belongings, and saw Delphine watching two children play from the corridor. Swinging her small bag, she came up to her and said lightly, "Aren’t you going to thank me? If it weren’t for me, you’d still be stuck in that shabby house in the mountains."
Delphine was taken aback and replied softly, "It was you?"
"Of course it was me. Did you think eldest brother’s people would help you pass a message?" Bessie sneered and said coldly, "During the days you were missing, Jocelyn Yeager put a lot of pressure on the Leclair Family, and thanks to you, my assets have shrunk."
Seeing Delphine’s confused expression, Bessie knew that her brother hadn’t told her anything, treating this woman like a treasure, protecting her from any touch of fame or worldly desires.
Bessie’s expression turned slightly cold as she said, "My grandfather divided the Leclair Family’s assets into three parts, with each of the three branches getting a share. Grandfather was really biased. Even though eldest brother was squeezed out of the power circle, grandfather still took two-thirds of the assets from Nathan Leclair to give to eldest brother and me. I guess I benefited from it."
Delphine noticed that her eyes were no longer arrogant; instead, they carried a hint of severity.
The once pretentious and naïve Miss had quickly matured after experiencing betrayal, divorce, miscarriage, exile, and abandonment, and was no longer innocent and playful, revealing a cold demeanor.
Bessie had always been a calculating woman, but her thoughts used to focus on men. After seeing through Jocelyn Yeager, the inherent coldness of the Leclair Family members was laid bare.
"What do these things have to do with me? I didn’t ask you to save me," Delphine said coldly. She and Bessie could never become friends in this lifetime.
"We grew up together, after all. Though I bullied you since we were young, that’s how the world is; status decides everything. Now you have my brother’s favor, haven’t you been gaining the upper hand, bullying me in return all these years?" Bessie said coldly.
"Saving you was just a matter of saying a few words to grandfather. I’m someone who never suffers losses. In the future, when I deal with Jocelyn Yeager, you’ll have to help me once."
Without waiting for Delphine’s reply, Bessie swung her small bag and left.
Delphine watched her back, unable to regain her composure for a long time. She should have realized earlier that Bessie, a person who always avenged her grievances, had returned this time surely to deal with Jocelyn Yeager.
What was once love had turned into enmity; such is the nature of worldly affairs, ever-changing and unresolvable.
Recovering her senses, Delphine turned around and saw Ignatius Leclair standing three steps away from her. The man was leaning against the red wall, his phoenix-like eyes deep and unreadable. It was unknown how long he had been watching her. As she turned, he finally said in a low voice, "Dinner’s ready."
Delphine shivered, inexplicably afraid of this calm Ignatius.
After dinner, Ignatius took the two children for a bath, while the old man asked Delphine to stay behind for a talk.
"Delphine, don’t blame Ignatius. It’s my fault. I haven’t taken good care of him all these years. He’s become used to being alone and struggling, which is why he’s like this now." The old man sighed softly, immediately playing the family card.
Delphine had initially intended to talk about divorce, but seeing the old man like this, all her words were blocked.
