The Second Son of the Marquis Wants to Laze Around-Chapter 96: Round Two
Chapter 96: Round Two
...
...
To understand what really happened, let’s rewind a bit and look at things from Eren’s perspective—right before he stepped into the boss room floor.
After leveling up to Level 2, Eren wasted no time and immediately maxed out all of his base stats again. With a satisfied grin on his face, he then spent a huge chunk of his System Points like a rich kid in a candy store—buying up multiple magic scrolls that included enhanced offensive and defensive spells.
Potions? Check. Elixirs? Check. Fancy high-level weapons like swords, daggers, and shield? Double check. Oh, and let’s not forget the more... modern options—TNT, grenades, and a few other questionable items that probably shouldn’t be mentioned just yet. (You know, for dramatic effect. Let’s keep a few surprises in our back pocket.)
In short: Eren bought a lot of stuff in preparation for what he assumed would be the final showdown with the boss monster. He already knew he wouldn’t be able to buy or use any more SP the moment he entered the boss room due to the quest’s "no-cheese" restriction that he himself requested Useless to implement. (Yes, he nerfed himself on purpose. Because why not?)
Now, this brings us to the big question:
How did he manage to trick everyone—even Useless, the system itself—and what exactly was that "Avatar" thing that popped up in the notification earlier?
Well, if you remember correctly, when Eren leveled up to Level 2, he unlocked a brand-new magic spell. A very suspiciously convenient one at that. Its name?
"Echo Avatar."
---
Magic Spell: Echo Avatar
Description:
A high-tier magic spell that conjures a semi-autonomous avatar in the user’s exact likeness. The avatar can be imbued with a selected portion of the user’s stats, abilities, and physical appearance—based on the user’s intent. Once summoned, the avatar can function independently according to preset commands.
Alternatively, the user can transfer their consciousness into the avatar, allowing for full remote control while the real body remains protected in a passive state. The spell lasts for a limited duration or until the avatar either runs out of energy, takes excessive damage, or strays too far from the real body.
Incantation:
"Mirror of soul, by will and form, let echo rise—walk in my shadow, and become my guise."
---
So yeah. The moment Eren stepped onto the boss floor, he immediately cast Echo Avatar, summoning a perfect clone of himself. He poured a generous chunk of his stats and abilities all into it, making sure it was battle-ready.
Meanwhile, his real body stayed behind, leaning against the massive door in a very casual, very lazy posture—with a high-tier magical barrier enveloping him like a cozy security blanket.
Once the avatar was complete, Eren transferred his consciousness into it. And because the system is tied directly to his soul or his consciousness, it moved with him into the Avatar. So that’s the catch. That’s the trick. That’s why even Useless didn’t realize what had happened—it was too busy scanning and analyzing the boss room to notice the subtle body swap.
While piloting the Avatar like a second body, Eren’s goal was simple: test out the boss’s behavior first. He suspected there might be some kind of anomaly or butterfly effect or whatever it was, that might change something about the boss.
And surprise, surprise! His instincts were spot-on.
The boss monster turned out to be completely different from the one he remembered from the original game version. Like, totally unrecognizable. This wasn’t just a "hard mode" reskin—it was an entirely new creature with new moves and an upgraded sadistic design.
Luckily, Eren had equipped his avatar with his best armor and handed it two of his storage rings—each packed with half of his magic tools and emergency goodies. The real body? It was on standby mode, just chilling.
Also, since it’s a good time, here’s Eren’s updated status!

Back to the present, Useless stared at Eren’s inactive body with a dumbfounded expression in its voice.
[How... when?] it muttered quietly.
Eren, currently back in his real body, completely ignored Useless and began pulling out new pieces of armor from his storage ring, casually equipping them like he was just suiting up for a morning jog.
Useless was stunned. The gear he was putting on... it recognized those. Most of them were from quest rewards that Useless itself had given him!

Equipping all his new magic artifacts, Eren’s strength and agility had increased significantly. Most notably, his speed had doubled, as the majority of his gear gave agility buffs of over 100%.
Taking out a new long sword from his storage ring—one similar to the weapon used by his Avatar—Eren was now fully ready to fight again.
Now dressed in a dark, fitted long-sleeved linen shirt with the sleeves slightly rolled up at the wrists. Over his shirt, he wore his Silver Pegasus Armor—a lightweight yet durable full-body armor made of shimmering silver plates that gleamed under light. The armor had a sleek, aerodynamic design, with wing-like crests on the shoulder guards and engraved patterns of flying Pegasi along the chestplate. Built for speed and flexibility, the armor didn’t hinder movement, perfectly complementing Eren’s swift combat style. His lower half was protected by matching silver greaves and a dark utility belt packed with enchanted tools.
Deactivating the barrier and the illusion spell surrounding him, Eren revealed himself to the Abyssal Reaper, who was now staring at where his Avatar had just been—in confused.
"He ugly!"
Eren shouted, catching the boss monster’s attention. As the Reaper turned its head toward him, he grinned wildly, raised his sword, and pointed it forward.
"Round two, jackass!"
As soon as he declared that, ten sharp, small yellow crystals shot toward the boss at an incredible speed, so fast it couldn’t even register them—until they pierced its body.
–Swush!–Stab–Stab!
"KREEEHHH!!!"
The Abyssal Reaper screeched, unable to comprehend what was hitting it. It flapped its massive wings and rose into the air, trying to escape the sudden barrage. But Eren didn’t give it a moment to breathe. He fired another ten sharp yellow crystals, launching them like bullets.
The only other one who truly understood what was happening was Useless. The system could see its master manipulating the crystals with his "Invisible Hand," forming strings around each one. Eren spun them rapidly to build momentum before letting them fly, each shot tearing through the air with enough power to puncture the boss’s darl body amd it wings
–Swush!–Swush!
And since Eren used illusions to conceal his attacks, the Reaper had no idea where the crystals were coming from. Furious, it swung its massive scythe, sending a flurry of dark slash projectiles toward Eren, having correctly guessed he was the source.
Seeing the incoming attacks, Eren calmly twisted his body, dodging each slash with smooth precision as the attacks flew past and slammed into the sealed door behind him.
–BANG!–BANG!
Grinning as he easily avoided the blows, Eren glanced up at the boss with a mocking smirk.
"What? Surprised I managed to dodge this time?" he taunted. With that, he activated every artifact boosting his agility and enhanced himself further with Aura, then dashed forward.
–BANG! –SWOOSH!
The ground exploded as he kicked off, vanishing and reappearing mid-air in front of the boss in under a second—closing 80 meters instantly. He slashed his sword in a clean arc.
–Slash!
"KREEEHHH!!!"
Dark blood gushed from the Reaper as Eren passed by, delivering a deep cut. Without hesitation, he rebounded off the wall and launched himself again, preparing another strike.
–Bang!
–Cling!
This time, the monster reacted just in time, blocking his sword with the handle of its scythe.
"I’m not done yet!"
