The Second Son of the Marquis Wants to Laze Around-Chapter 95: Eren vs Floor Boss (5)
Chapter 95: Eren vs Floor Boss (5)
Deactivating his illusion camouflage, Eren fully revealed himself to the Boss. His body—bloody, broken, and trembling—stood tall beneath the Abyssal Reaper’s gaze.
The Reaper’s single, glowing eye locked onto him in an instant. Without hesitation, it dived down at a terrifying speed, raising its dark scythe to strike.
Eren’s instincts kicked in, and he quickly jumped to the left, narrowly dodging the first slash. But the Boss wasn’t done—it unleashed a rapid series of three follow-up slashes without mercy.
—Slash! —Slash! —Slash!
But the Eren the Boss had just shredded to pieces... was nothing more than an illusion.
In an instant, the fake body burst into a cloud of white mist, obscuring the Reaper’s vision.
Far on the other side of the room, the real Eren was already in action. Gulping down the last of the elixir he had used earlier on his severed arm, he rapidly regenerated his wounds—the ones pierced by the Boss’s earlier barrage of dark feathers.
His breathing was ragged, but his focus was sharp.
He summoned his "Invisible Hand" skill once more, extending control over all the shattered daggers scattered across the ground. This time, instead of disguising them as clones like before, he made every single one of them completely invisible.
—Cling! Cling! —Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!
Twenty broken blades floated silently in the air, hovering like spectral assassins. With a flick of his will, they flew toward the Abyssal Reaper, who was still scanning the battlefield, searching for his prey.
"!?!?"
Sensing something amiss, the monster flapped its massive wings and soared back into the air. But the invisible daggers did not stop. One after another, they followed the creature and struck from different angles in midair.
—Cling! —Cling! —Cling!
The Boss twisted and spun midair, trying to shake off the assault. Though the attacks didn’t cause damage—its body still protected by an ominous layer of dark energy that cloaked it like armor—the unseen strikes were irritating. It couldn’t see what was hitting it, and that alone was enough to throw it off.
Useless, floating next to Eren, observed the situation as it still was analyzing the Boss. Despite the flurry of dagger attacks, they were doing no actual harm. That cloak of dark energy nullified the damage, acting like a shield.
–Swoooosh!
Annoyed, the Reaper spread its wings wide. From within, it fired a storm of sharp, feather-like projectiles in every direction. Some of the feathers hit and shattered the invisible daggers, while others sliced through the fine threads of Eren’s Invisible Hand.
When the attack stopped, the Boss paused. Its singular glowing eye scanned the room, searching for the human. But there was no sign of him—no reaction like before. His figure remained completely invisible.
Wanting to force its prey out once more, the Reaper’s eye flashed with a glowing light. It flapped its massive wings, swooping downward before slamming the bottom end of its enormous scythe into the ground.
—SLAM!
—CRACK!
Just like before, jagged bone spikes erupted from the earth in every direction, unleashing a wide-range AOE attack that covered the entire boss room.
Yet still... no reaction. Eren’s presence was nowhere to be found.
Unlike the Boss, Useless knew exactly where Eren was—because it was connected to him, bound as his System assistant.
High in the air, Eren’s body was suspended midair by the threads of his Invisible Hand, wrapped around his waist like a harness. He had jumped just as the Reaper slammed its last wide-range AOE attack into the ground, avoiding it by rising above.
Now, hanging like a puppet, Eren swiftly pulled out three glowing purple magic scrolls.
Without hesitation, he slashed through all three with a single swing of his sword.
—Vsssssh!
The scrolls disintegrated into shimmering light particles that surged into his weapon. The blade began to glow, wrapped in a radiant aura of magic. Fire, lightning, and light elements surged across its edge, turning it into a blade of divine fury.
Releasing the string holding him aloft, Eren began his descent.
His sword pointed downward, shining with elemental energy. The Boss still hadn’t noticed him falling from above.
—Stab!
Eren plunged his sword straight into the Reaper’s back.
"KREEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
The creature let out a blood-curdling screech as it jerked upward in shock, its wings flapping in panic. It soared wildly through the air, thrashing in a frenzy.
But Eren didn’t let go. He gritted his teeth and held on, pushing the blade deeper.
"KREEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHH!!"
The Reaper stretched one of its massive arms backward, blindly swiping at the human on its back. But Eren ducked and twisted, narrowly dodging every attempt as he kept driving the sword further in.
Realizing it couldn’t reach him, the Boss flew straight toward the dungeon wall and slammed its back against it.
—SLAM!
"UGH!"
Blood sprayed from Eren’s mouth as his body was crushed between the Reaper and the cold stone wall. But he didn’t release the sword’s hilt. Instead, he snarled and twisted the blade, making the creature shriek even louder.
"You son of an ugly bitch!"
—Twist!
"KREEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHH!!"
The Boss slammed into the wall again. And again. Five times in a row.
Each impact crushed Eren’s body more and more. Blood gushed from reopened wounds that got healed. His vision started to blurred as he was losing his conscious. His limbs went numb. His eyes rolled back.
He was on the verge of blacking out.
[Master, stop!!]
Useless’s panicked voice echoed in his mind.
The words snapped him back. His eyes refocused.
"SCREAM EVEN MORE, YOU PIECE OF SHIT!!!"
Eren roared, twisting the sword again like a screwdriver, then thrusting it down with all the strength he had left.
—STAB!
The blade finally burst through the Bossr’s chest. The tip shone brightly, visible from the front.
"KREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
With a final, monstrous scream, the Boss dove straight downward, slamming into the ground with a thunderous crash.
—BANG!!
Dust scattered everywhere at the center of the boss room where the final monster had been. As the dust slowly cleared, only the boss remained, lying on the ground with a sword pierced through its back—no sign of Eren anywhere.
Fortunately for him, just before his body could be slammed to the ground, he let go of the sword at the last second. His body was thrown to the side, crashing onto the floor with force.
–THUD!
Lying on the ground, face up, his body was in a horribly wrecked state. Blood gushed out of his wounds, forming a pool around him. His bones were broken, and several muscles torn.
[Master, quickly use the elixir!]
Useless’s voice rang out, panicked, as it checked Eren’s condition. It was bad—he had lost too much blood.
Staring at the ceiling with a calm, almost lifeless and bored expression, Eren weakly murmured, "...No need."
Useless’s screen turned red and glitched as it reacted in anger.
[What do you mean you don’t need it?! You’re dying!]
The words flashed across its screen.
’I can’t move my body,’ Eren said inwardly, his half-lidded eyes dull and stoic. He didn’t even have the strength to speak anymore.
Hearing its master’s thoughts, Useless froze. It didn’t want to believe it. Its master—its host—was really going to die just like that?
Frantically, Useless attempted to cancel the quest, hoping to use System Points to save him. But a notification popped up.
[The Quest can’t be cancelled.]
’What the Fudge do you mean it can’t be cancelled?! It worked last time!!!’
Useless couldn’t understand. Was it because it also needed to use SP?
It even considered sacrificing its rank again, like before—but even if it did, it still wouldn’t be able to use System’s Points due to the ongoing quest. That only added to its frustration. It couldn’t think of any other way.
’Arghhhh! Just what should I do?!’
–Cling!
A metallic clatter echoed through the room. Useless quickly turned its gaze toward the center and saw the boss monster, still alive, pulling the sword out of its back and tossing it to the ground.
Its bloodthirsty one eye scanned the area—until it finally locked onto Eren’s collapsed body a few meters away.
Filled with rage over what the human had done, the boss gripped its scythe tightly and charged at Eren. It raised its weapon high, ready to strike the final blow.
[NO!!!]
Useless could only watch in horror as the scythe came down—piercing Eren’s chest.
–Stab!
–Splash!
A thick silence followed as Useless stared at its master being killed. If it had a face, it would’ve been frozen in shock, its eyes wide in disbelief.
Its master—Eren... was dead.
...
...
But something didn’t feel right.
It wasn’t the fact that Eren had died. No—it was the silence that followed. Something was missing.
There was no quest failure notification.
Useless quickly reopened the quest screen and stared in shock.
---
[New Quest: Slay the Abyssal Reaper — Boss Floor of the Aberration Dungeon]
[Status: Incomplete]
[Time Remaining: 00:31:27]
---
The timer was still counting down.
’What does that mean...?’
As if responding to its thoughts, a familiar voice echoed—something that should’ve been impossible.
"Guess I’ll have to step in now."
Useless’s gaze snapped toward the sound. Its virtual eyes (metaphorically) widened in disbelief.
There, leaning against the giant doors of the boss room, stood Eren—alive—surrounded by a faint, golden barrier.
[H-How...?]
Useless could barely speak, its voice trembling.
Then suddenly, its perspective shifted, as its holographic interface screen appeared next to Eren, showing him standing safely by the entrance.
Useless was still trying to comprehend what had happened when it noticed something strange as it turned its gaze back to where Eren was: the other Eren—his body—was still lying on the floor, pierced by the boss’s weapon.
That’s when it clicked.
’Don’t tell me...’
As if confirming its suspicion, a new screen notification popped up in front of Eren.
[Your Avatar has been killed.]
[You cannot use the spell "Echo Avatar" again for six days.]
[All experience has been transferred to the original body.]
Useless stared blankly at Eren... then at the notification... then back at Eren, feeling dumbfounded.
