The Second Son of the Marquis Wants to Laze Around-Chapter 97: Finally, Real Magic!
Chapter 97: Finally, Real Magic!
...
...
"I’m not done yet!" Eren roared.
He wrapped his blade in Aura and pressed forward, forcibly pushing the boss back. Then he raised his left hand that was holding a golden magic scroll. It vanished into glowing particles as it got activated, forming a yellow magic circle in his palm. He pointed it at the Reaper and shouted:
"Sacred Chains!"
Golden chains burst forth, shooting straight at the monster. They coiled around its wings and body, binding it tightly. As Eren landed back on the ground, the end of the chain now wrapped around his arm, he pulled it hard—slamming the Reaper into the ground.
–BANG!
The spell "Sacred Chains," unlike what Leon had used against the Thunderclaw, "Sacred Net," focused all its strength on binding a single target—making it far more powerful as it seals the target’s ability to use magic or attack.
"I’m getting tired of looking up at you while you’re in the air," Eren muttered with clear annoyance.
With a flick of his hand, he activated another storage ring. In a burst of light, a dozen swords, daggers, and magic scrolls emerged and floated into the air around him, all held aloft by his skill—Invisible Hand.
Seeing the hovering arsenal form a deadly orbit around its master, Useless couldn’t help but already guess what was coming next.
Controlling all ten swords and daggers simultaneously, Eren directed them to slice through twenty floating magic scrolls. In a cascade of golden light, each weapon became coated with a brilliant aura of light attribute enhancement.
He glanced at the Abyssal Reaper, still chained and writhing helplessly on the ground, trying to break free from the glowing golden restraints. A wicked grin crept across Eren’s face.
"Let’s do it one more time~"
...
Useless watched the unfolding scene with a stoic expression—and perhaps a touch of pity. The terrifying Abyssal Reaper, the overwhelming and ominous scary looking boss monster, was currently being mercilessly ganged up on by Eren and his swarm of flying weapons.
–Slash! –Slash! –Slash! –Slash! –Slash! –Slash!
"KREEEEEEEEHHHHHHH!!!"
The boss could do little but screech in agony as wave after wave of slashes carved into its corrupted flesh. Dark blood sprayed in every direction, staining the ground like ink. Compared to before when Eren used the same tactic with the Avatar, the damage was far more severe—every blade now enhanced with light magic, the Reaper’s natural weakness.
But the clock was ticking. The golden chains wouldn’t last forever. In fact, they only had ten seconds.
–Crack–
Eren’s sharp eyes caught the first wide crack along the glowing restraints. He knew he had to act fast.
–GRAB!
Grabbing one of the floating swords with his free hand, he tried something new—well, technically stolen. Mimicking Leon’s ultimate technique that he used against Raven’s pet, "Wind Burst Stream", he dual-wielded two swords glowing with light energy.
With a surge of Aura to boost himself again, Eren launched forward and unleashed a furious flurry of rapid slashes. His arms blurred, his swords moved faster than the eye could follow, forming countless afterimages as they shredded the Reaper’s body.
–SLASH–SLASH–SLASH–SLASH–SLASH! –SLASH! –SLASH!–
"KREEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
The Reaper shrieked in unbearable pain as cuts tore deeper into its flesh. It began to struggle violently, pouring all its strength into breaking the chains.
–Crack!
Just as the restraints reached their limit, Eren let out a battle cry and delivered a final, heavy dual slash—slicing straight through the monster’s left wing in a clean, brutal cut.
–Slice!–
"KREEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
–BOOM!!–
A shockwave burst from the Reaper’s body as the chains shattered. A violent surge of dark energy exploded outward, flinging Eren and his floating arsenal backward.
Eren skidded across the ground but quickly dug one of his swords into the stone floor, halting his momentum.
Now grounded and bleeding, the Abyssal Reaper was unable to fly. With only one wing left, its days of soaring above its prey were over.
Realizing this, the Reaper turned toward Eren. It’s one big eye gleamed ominously, and the air grew thick with pure killing intent.
Eren, unfazed, dusted himself off as he stood up.
"Oww~ Did it hurt when I cut off your ugly wiggy?" he taunted with a mocking grin, remembering how this thing had severed his arm before. This was payback—and he was enjoying every second.
As if it understood the insult, the Reaper let out a distorted screech and lunged forward. Despite its missing wing, it moved with terrifying speed, propelled by one powerful flap that cracked the ground beneath it.
–DASH!
–BOOM!–
It closed the distance in a blink, swinging its massive scythe straight at Eren’s head.
–CLING!–
But with flawless timing, Eren raised both his swords and blocked the blow.
–SLASH–CLING!–SLASH–CLING!–SLASH–CLING!
Their weapons clashed again and again. Sparks flew. The Reaper swung wildly, its rage overtaking its precision, while Eren danced between its blows—sometimes deflecting, sometimes dodging, but always one step ahead.
And even while defending, Eren stayed on the offensive. Unseen by the Reaper, two of his flying daggers zipped behind the monster, slicing it from behind at odd angles. Small cuts added up, drawing more dark blood, as the Reaper didn’t even seem to notice.
Maybe it was too consumed by anger? Or maybe it simply couldn’t keep up.
The two figures moved in blinding flashes across the boss room. Even Useless, who was actively analyzing the battle, had trouble tracking them.
Not long ago, this boss had completely overpowered Eren. But now, the tides had turned. Thanks to the battle data Useless had collected, Eren could anticipate and predict the Reaper’s every move. It was just like facing a raid boss in a hardcore game—patterns, timing, reactions.
–SLASH–CLING! –SLASH–CLING!
Frustrated that nothing was working, the Reaper leapt back and raised its one remaining wing. With a screech, it fired a barrage of dark feathers.
But Eren didn’t flinch as he remains calm and stoic. With rapid slashes, he deflected every projectile coming his way.
–CLING!–CLING!–CLING!–CLING!–CLING!–
The monster roared and launched another volley, shooting more dark projectiles of sharp feathers.
But Eren was already on the move. He dashed forward, blades spinning like windmills.
"This trick doesn’t work on me anymore!" Eren shouted with a wicked grin, his crimson eyes glowing like a predator in the night. The Abyssal Reaper instinctively took a step back, a flicker of panic rising in its mind without it even realizing.
The monster jumped backward, creating more distance between them while unleashing another flurry of sharp, dark feathers. But Eren didn’t stop. He kept running straight through the volley, slashing through each projectile with rapid, precise swings of his dual swords. The feathers shattered mid-air like glass under his relentless barrage.
Closing the gap between them in seconds, Eren lunged. But just as he reached the boss, the Reaper swung its massive scythe in a wide arc—cutting Eren clean in half.
Or so it thought.
As the upper and lower halves of the human’s body split, the Reaper noticed something wrong.
Those glowing purple eyes...
He was smiling.
–Slash!
"KREEEEEHH!!"
The Abyssal Reaper screeched, not in victory—but in confusion and pain. A deep gash tore across its back, as if an invisible blade had struck from behind. It twisted violently, spinning its body to retaliate. With a screech, it slashed at the attacker behind it—only to slice another version of Eren, who vanished like mist.
–Slash!
The blow landed, but there was no resistance. No flesh. No blood. Just an illusion.
–Slash!
Another strike came from behind. Another painful cut opened on the Reaper’s back. Once again, it spun around and attacked the figure behind it—only to strike another illusion that faded into air.
This continued—again and again.
Each time the boss was slashed from behind, it would turn and counterattack, only to find that what it struck wasn’t real. The cycle repeated endlessly. No matter how fast or how wildly it spun, every blow it landed was on a phantom. The true Eren was nowhere to be seen.
In reality, the real Eren was using illusion magic—remaining invisible as he circled the battlefield. Each time he landed a blow, he left behind an illusion clone. While the boss focused on the clone, he would move to the other side and strike again. It was the same strategy he had used against the Troll monster before—but now, it was more refined. More deadly.
Frustrated and enraged by its inability to locate its attacker, the Reaper let out a furious screech. It raised the base of its long scythe and slammed it hard into the ground.
–SLAM!
–SPIKE!
In an instant, jagged bone spikes erupted from the earth in every direction—a massive area-of-effect spell designed to impale anything nearby. It was a desperate attempt to catch the phantom human off guard.
Dust and debris filled the air as the spikes shot out like a storm of death. Then, after several tense seconds, the spikes slowly began to retract into the ground. The Reaper stood still, breathing heavily, its single glowing eye scanning the area.
Silence.
It lowered its scythe, believing the human had finally been caught and killed by the sudden AOE attack.
But then—
–CHAIN!
Glowing purple chains suddenly shot out of thin air, wrapping tightly around the Reaper’s limbs, wing, neck, and body. They constricted with force, locking it in place before it could react.
–CLANK!–
It struggled, trying to pull free, only to see a large white magic circle slowly forming beneath its feet, glowing with radiant power.
"O light that reigns beyond the veil of clouds..."
A voice echoed from in front of it.
The Reaper’s single eye widened as Eren appeared before it—kneeling on one knee, one hand on the ground, and the other gripping a glowing white ancient book. He read aloud from its pages with calm tone, the incantation flowing from his lips like a holy poem.
"Heed my call from the realm where dawn is born.
Pierce through shadowy darkness with celestial flame..."
Floating beside Eren, Useless stared at its Master in shock. Its expression would be frozen in disbelief if it had a face.
’He... He’s using real magic! A Real Magic Spell!’
The System screamed in its mind, practically vibrating with excitement and happiness. Finally! Finally it’s lazy annoying Master is learning a real magic Spell!!
