The Second Son of the Marquis Wants to Laze Around-Chapter 73: Leon vs Thundercalw (2/2)
Chapter 73: Leon vs Thundercalw (2/2)
Leon, now cloaked in the whirling Wind Spirit Blessing that danced around his body like a raging storm, dashed toward the Thundercalw with a serious expression. The ground beneath his feet erupted from the force of his movement.
—BOOM!
"HAAAAAAAA!"
With a fierce battle cry, he swung his sword, releasing a sharp blade of wind that sliced through the air, heading straight for the monster. Sensing the incoming strike, the Thundercalw leapt to the side to evade—but was immediately met by Leon, who had already appeared before it in a blink.
—SLASH!
—ROOOOOAAAAAAAAR!
Leon’s sword landed a deep gash across the monster’s side, making it howl in agony. In retaliation, it swung a lightning-charged claw at him with explosive speed.
—Shfff!
Leon narrowly dodged, lowering his upper body just in time. The claw grazed his hair as he countered with another precise swing aimed at its abdomen.
—SLASH!
—ROOOOOAAAAARRR! ƒгeewebnovёl.com
The beast let out another ear-shaking roar and jumped back to create distance. But Leon didn’t let up. Instead, he closed the gap in an instant—his speed growing faster by the second. With relentless strikes, he carved into the monster again and again, evading its claws and countering with precision.
The knights watching from outside the dome stood in stunned silence, amazed by Leon’s unyielding will and skillful combat. The tide of battle had shifted—Leon was now on the offensive.
But not everyone was cheering. Kristoff, who stood beside the young master, frowned deeply. He could tell Leon was burning through a tremendous amount of mana to maintain his Wind Spirit Blessing. It wouldn’t be long before he ran dry.
Even Eren noticed. Still, the boy showed no signs of concern, his gaze as lazy and unreadable as ever.
Meanwhile, Useless—who was also observing—scanned both Leon and the Thundercalw. His analysis showed that both were nearing their physical limits. Fatigue was setting in fast. It wouldn’t be long before one of them collapsed.
—BANG! BANG!
—BLAST!
—ROOOOOAAAAARRR!
The Thundercalw, unwilling to take another punishing hit, roared furiously and released a wave of electric shock to force Leon back. But even that wasn’t enough to stop him. Protected by the wind swirling around him, Leon pushed through the shockwave and delivered another punishing slash.
—SLASH!
The monster gritted through the pain and retaliated, this time whipping its tail toward Leon. The strike connected—smashing into Leon’s shoulder and sending him flying.
—CRASH!
Leon coughed out blood midair, but somehow managed to twist his body and land on his feet, skidding along the ground before coming to a halt. His breathing was ragged. He looked up at the beast with narrowed eyes, sweat dripping from his brow.
Both man and monster were on the brink of collapse, teetering between consciousness and blackout. But neither was willing to give in—not until the other fell first.
Even the Thundercalw, a rare Level 5 monster with higher intelligence than its lesser kin, understood its fate. If it managed to kill this knight, it still wouldn’t survive the remaining knights waiting outside. It was too exhausted. Its only hope now was to take down the blue-haired knight before it.
They were both clinging to one goal, victory.
Leon’s vision blurred, his eyes heavy as his body screamed to fall over. He could barely hold his swords, and yet he knew—he had to land the finishing blow. But the level difference between them made it nearly impossible.
He gritted his teeth.
’I need to strike fast... multiple times in one go...!’
With his stats focused on speed and agility, and the boost from the Wind Spirit Blessing, he believed he had a chance to pull it off.
’But it’s still not enough...!’
Just then—
—CLANK!
Something fell from the air and stabbed into the ground before him.
It was a short sword. it had a sleek, obsidian-black blade with silver etchings glowing faintly along the fuller, resembling ancient runes. Its hilt was wrapped in dark blue leather, and the crossguard curved slightly like wings, giving it an elegant yet deadly appearance. It was clearly no ordinary blade—refined, noble, and sharp enough to cut the wind itself.
Leon’s eyes widened in surprise. He immediately recognized the sword—and quickly turned his head to the person who had thrown it, standing calmly outside the dome.
Young Master Eren.
Still standing beside his seat, arms crossed, Eren gave Leon a small, subtle nod. That usual stoic, bored expression remained on his face.
Leon nearly let out a laugh, but he was too exhausted. Instead, he smiled.
’Heh... you’re really something, young master.’
—Step.
Walking toward the sword, he grabbed the hilt with his other hand and pulled it out. Now, he looked like a knight warrior—a dual wielder.
With his friend’s sword in his right hand and Eren’s sword in his left, Leon’s eyes narrowed sharply as he dashed toward the Thunderclaw.
–BANG!
"HAAAAAAAAA!"
Violent winds circled around his body, responding to his battle cry.
–Bzzzzzzzz!
–BANG!
–ROOOOOOOOAAAAR!
Thunderclaw roared back, lightning crackling across its entire body as it charged in. It, too, intended to end this fight.
As the two clashed, the Thunderclaw swung its claw, and Leon met it with his right sword.
–Clang!
Their attacks collided with an explosive shockwave. But Leon didn’t stop there. Gritting his teeth, he pushed forward and swung harder, managing to deflect the monster’s paw.
With the beast wide open, Leon twisted his body in a full 360-degree spin, bringing Eren’s sword around for another strike—and slashed across the monster’s stomach.
–SLASH!
"HAAAAAAAAAAA!"
But it wasn’t over yet. Releasing his Aura on top of his Wind Spirit Buff, Leon’s stats doubled. He unleashed a flurry of rapid slashes using both swords, giving the Thunderclaw no chance to counter.
–SLASH–SLASH–SLASH–SLASH–SLASH!
More cuts appeared all over the monster’s body. Leon’s figure became a blur, his slashes too fast to follow. Eren, watching from a distance, couldn’t help but smirk, because the move Leon was using looked exactly like Leon’s Ultimate Attack in the Valoria Legends.
Once the barrage ended, Leon’s body finally gave out. He collapsed face-first onto the ground, completely exhausted.
–THUMP!
The Thunderclaw also dropped to the ground nearby, covered in bleeding wounds. Leon was bleeding too—he had pushed his body far beyond its limits. The combined strain of using Aura and Spirit Buffs when he was already injured led to this outcome.
Now that the adrenaline was gone, Hr felt pain shoot through his entire body. Torn muscles. Cracked bones. But despite it all, he smiled.
"LEON!"
Someone shouted his name, and footsteps rushed toward him. But the exhaustion was too much. His eyes closed, and he lost consciousness.

While unconscious, old memories began to resurface in Leon’s mind.
It was after his friend’s death. During that time, Leon had stopped accepting quests as an adventurer. He spent his days at the bar, drinking with a gloomy face.
Wearing a hooded cloak that concealed his face and body, he kept drinking, blaming himself for his friend’s death. He remembered holding his friend’s cold body in his arms. He remembered visiting Seraf’s mother and delivering the heartbreaking news—how she collapsed at the doorway in tears. He remembered a knight from Valmont inviting him to attend Seraf’s and the others’ funeral, but he declined.
–Gulp!
He downed another beer and slammed the mug on the bar counter as he sat there. The bartender was growing annoyed but didn’t argue. Leon wasn’t the first to drown his sorrow here.
There had been others before him.
"Another," Leon ordered, his voice slurred and weak.
With a sigh, the bartender poured him another drink.
"Sir, I’d like a cold non-alcoholic drink, if you don’t mind."
A new voice spoke. Another man had taken the seat beside Leon at the bar.
A man in his 40s, with white hair and a thin beard, wearing knight armor with the Valmont Crest on his chest and a longsword at his waist. He wore a blue cloak draped over it, but both Leon and the bartender had already noticed his identity.
The bartender nodded in respect and went to prepare the drink.
"What do you want?" Leon asked in a hoarse tone. He could tell the man had come to see him again.
"There’s something I need to give you," said the knight—Commander Gareth Godfrey—calmly.
Leon said nothing and gulped down his drink, finishing it before slamming the cup on the counter.
"If you’re here to recruit me, don’t bother. I told you—I’m not interested," Leon said sharply, annoyance clear in his voice.
The commander looked at the miserable Leon in silence. Then, he reached under his cloak and pulled out a letter.
"I’m actually here to give you this."
He placed it on the counter and slid it toward Leon, who glanced at it. His eyes widened when he saw his name written on it.
"The knights found this in Seraf’s dorm room when they were cleaning. There were two letters—one for his mother, and this one... for you," Gareth explained.
At that moment, the bartender returned with Gareth’s drink and placed it before him.
Meanwhile, Leon kept staring at the letter in silence, unsure of what to do.
Seeing the conflicted look on Leon’s face, Gareth said nothing and drank quietly. When he finished, he stood up to leave. Leon still hadn’t touched the letter.
With a sigh, the commander spoke.
"Take it from someone who’s experienced the same loss—don’t let your past choices keep you from moving forward. We all have regrets, but that doesn’t mean we should stop moving on."
He left a gold coin on the counter for the drink, thanked the bartender, and walked out.
After Gareth left, Leon sat alone, still staring at the letter. In the end, he took it with him and left the tavern after paying.
When he returned to his inn room, he sat down on the bed with the letter in hand. His heart pounded—he was afraid to even open it.
"..."
After a couple of hours, he finally opened it and began to read its contents.
