Chapter 680: 678 Side Story 2: About Having Children (Second Update)

The inn on the border was plain, not even a bed curtain in sight, no barrier at all during the fleeting moments of their union.

Li Xianyun would have found this unthinkable in the past.

But now, drifting along in exile, everything had to be simple.

And with both having been neglected for so long, they desperately needed to become one.

So it had to be this way.

Li Xianyun turned her head and looked at Yelu Yan, who was busy cleaning a stain.

He was bare, with a tall, lean figure, broad shoulders, and a narrow waist, his body covered in muscles as hard as iron—a sight to salivate over.

For a moment, Li Xianyun nearly blurted out, asking him not to go out.

To stay inside.

But the words caught in her throat.

The timing for a pregnancy was all wrong.

Having been kidnapped by Murong Ce for so many days, if she were to conceive during this period, it would be unclear whose child it was.

With Yelu Yan around, no one dared to gossip about the matter.

Everything that happened after Murong Ce had captured her and she had been rescued as if it had been only yesterday.

Many suspected she had an improper relationship with Murong Ce.

A man and a woman alone in a carriage for days—it’s hard for others not to speculate.

Fortunately, Yelu Yan trusted her and silenced a few of those wagging tongues, quelling the rumors.

Only then did the matter settle down.

Now the situation seemed eerily similar.

Once again, she’d been taken by Murong Ce for days, and in that time, without any news, suspicion naturally arose.

Idle gossip had the power to tarnish even gold, and the spiteful hearts of some could not be avoided.

To save Yelu Yan from unnecessary troubles and to prevent her future child from being subjected to speculation and judgment from birth, she would have to wait a few more months before conceiving.

Yelu Yan turned his head and saw Li Xianyun’s dazed expression, so he turned around and swaggered over, stopping beside her head.

That thing was right in front of Li Xianyun’s eyes.

She couldn’t help but glance at it.

Magnificent.

Even relaxed, it was still frightening.

If he hadn’t eased off, she might very well have been overwhelmed.

He stood there in front of her, looking down at her with a smile.

A clear act of seduction and provocation.

This bad man.

Who would have thought that the king, usually so upright, commanding nations, revered by his people and feared by enemies, could have such a ludicrous side?

Li Xianyun shifted her gaze from his body, trying to focus on his cheek, looking into his deep, tiger-like eyes.

"What, what are you trying to do?" she asked. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

"What do you think?" he replied, his expression and tone full of teasing.

Li Xianyun huffed and turned her head away in embarrassment and indignation, "Who knows what you’re up to?"

Yelu Yan stopped teasing her, sat on the edge of the bed, and tried to reach out to grab her chin, wanting to turn her little face back toward him.

But when she thought about what she might have gotten on her hands, she had to give up the idea.

Yelu Yan leaned over her, looking at her blushing little face, and smiled, "Xianxian, what were you thinking about just now when you were looking at your husband?"

"I wasn’t thinking anything?" Li Xianyun answered succinctly, still turning her head away from him.

Yelu Yan smirked, "Since you’re not telling the truth, there’s no need for your husband to go easy."

Li Xianyun had no choice but to turn back to look at him.

Her eyes were large and bright like two pools of autumn water, serene and moving.

Yelu Yan stared at her, "Tell me, what were you thinking just now?"

"Lord husband, I was thinking of trying for children in a few more months."

"So that’s what it is," Yelu Yan chuckled, "We don’t need to rush to have children; you’re still young, we can talk about it later. Besides, we haven’t fully enjoyed our days as a duo, why stir up trouble by having a child?"

Li Xianyun wasn’t particularly enthusiastic about him to begin with; if they had a child, where would that leave him?

"Not decent."

"What’s the use of worrying about that trifle? If you became pregnant, your husband would have to abstain for at least a year, how could I stand that?"

Li Xianyun pursed her lips, "But before we were married, you were alone, didn’t you get by just fine then?"

"How can you compare the two? Before was different because I hadn’t tasted the sweetness, it didn’t matter, but now that I have, I can’t let go."

This man was terribly wicked, not only was his behavior debauched, but his words never strayed from lewdness.

Li Xianyun looked at him, "Lord husband, I find it very strange."

Seeing her earnest and serious demeanor, Yelu Yan also became serious, "Strange? About what?"

"I was taken by Murong Ce for such a long time, weren’t you afraid something might have happened between us?"

Yelu Yan affirmed, "You wouldn’t have agreed."

"Just because I didn’t agree, that means nothing would have happened?"

Yelu Yan hummed in agreement, though unwilling to admit it, still said, "If a man truly likes a woman, he wouldn’t force her, doesn’t want to see her unhappy, unless he doesn’t like her that much."

Previously he had been worried Murong Ce would force himself on Li Xianyun, but when he learned Murong Ce hadn’t harmed the Li Family Members, everything became clear.

If Murong Ce truly wanted to harm Li Xianyun’s family, gossip wouldn’t have prevented him from committing murder.

So Murong Ce truly had sincere feelings for Li Xianyun.

Yelu Yan had to admit that if Murong Ce didn’t harbor such a deep hatred for Li Xianyun, even if he committed many evil deeds, if he were to reform and make amends, coupled with such profound affection, he indeed would be a formidable rival.

Li Xianyun teased him with a purpose, "But what if you’re wrong, and Murong Ce did force himself on me, what would you do?"

Yelu Yan’s heart jerked fiercely, his expression serious, "I would still treat you well because none of this would be your fault. Why should we be punished for someone else’s wrong? And I love you, no matter what, I will always love you."

Just like Murong Ce loved Li Xianyun, not minding that she was already married, not minding that another man had been with her.

Yelu Yan’s eyes turned icy, continuing, "If such a thing indeed happened, I would make Murong Ce’s life a living hell and ensure everyone involved paid a heavy price."

Li Xianyun realized that those who loved you would do so no matter what, those who didn’t truly love you would eventually reveal their true nature due to certain incidents, wearing away the not-so-solid friendship.

She felt fortunate to have met a man who truly loved her.

Yelu Yan quickly responded, "Are you saying you want to wait a few more months to have children because of this incident?"

Li Xianyun chuckled, "You really can’t be kept in the dark about anything."

Yelu Yan laughed, "So you’re saying you need a couple of more months before having children, did your husband give you such an impression that he wants kids?"

"That’s not it, but as you know, my grandmother is getting on in years, and she has been longing for us to have children."

Yelu Yan’s demeanor turned solemn, "Xianxian, I don’t want you to feel obliged for anyone’s sake. Having children is a matter between us, and it has nothing to do with anyone else. Is your husband so weak that I can’t even grant you the freedom to decide whether to have children?"

Li Xianyun smiled, "I know you’re good to me."

"Xianxian, you don’t have to worry so much. Just ask yourself whether you want children. If you do, let’s have them; if not, we won’t," said Yelu Yan.
