Chapter 94: Newbie Raid (Part 1)

Rem leaned against the wall of the GUILD, his black hair over his eyes and his chest heaving a little... the sword Mark had given him was secured on a sheath on his back and he was currently waiting.

’I wonder who I will go on a raid with,’ Rem thought, there was Mark’s party and there was Drew who had said he was coming here today with the others – the other dungeon had honestly been a lot and they had lost a Cavalier too so Rem didn’t expect them to come here today which meant...

The door flung open and similar energy signatures entered. Rem could sense Krista, Drew and Mika... Rem couldn’t sense Cole because he had no soul energy, but he could perceive the crimson-haired boy’s presence a bit.

Drew walked to the notice board and plucked off a piece of paper – it was the permission to clear a D-grade dungeon and he brought it to the receptionist’s table.

Of course, while the Apprentices were much stronger than a mere D-grade dungeon, this was each their first time, except for Rem, in a dungeon and they would need to garner experience before entering a C-grade dungeon and higher.

’Besides the mayor insisted that they enter the B-grade dungeon expedition next month,’ Drew thought as he finalized the documents with the Receptionist, ’Although there would be many B-grade Cavaliers and Magus embarking as well and protecting them... I can’t help but feel worried,’

The Mayor had made it clear that he certainly had a talented bunch of Apprentices and they should see how the interior of a B-grade dungeon looked like – he was even sending his daughter along.

After he finalized and signed the notice, he began registering his party, each Apprentice was to write their name on the paper and Rem wrote his name as well – this was going to be interesting.

Mika bit her lips a bit, she was standing in front of a dungeon gate... It was a white one but she could feel the energy radiating from the inside, she could only hope that there were no Hellhounds.

Cole stared at the dungeon gate, his emotions were swaying. He glanced at his supposed rival – Rem and saw the Apprentice stretching.

’It’s a simple D-grade dungeon,’ Rem thought, nobody here knew about how GUILDS worked so Rem couldn’t expect anyone to report him if he actually managed to snag magic stones. But once again, the monsters in a D-grade dungeon were not as plentiful as the monsters which harbored a C-grade dungeon and Rem was doubtful in making so much profit.

He spared glances at the others as well, they were preparing themselves mentally for the first dungeon. Krista walked to him and Rem noticed something different about her, he couldn’t wrap his head around it but he knew for a fact that her soul energy seemed more refined than ever – he didn’t really think that the girl would advance so much in a short period of time.

’It’s not only her,’ Rem thought as he observed Mika and Cole, they felt different, they had honed their respective strengths and were confident for the battle ahead but their strength, no matter how much it grew, would never be able to match his own.

Krista stopped just short of him and smiled.

"It’s been a while," Krista said and Rem said nothing, he didn’t know how to reply to her statement – wasn’t she supposed to be the timid one?

"I’m glad that you’re doing fine," Krista said with a bright smile, Rem couldn’t understand why she was glad... if it had been up to him, she would have been dead long ago in that forest, she would have never been able to advance this far and she was glad? Glad that he was doing fine? 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

"Why?" Rem managed to utter out, he was surprised beyond words – he never expected anyone to be this stupid.

"I didn’t get enough time to thank you for saving me on that day," Krista said, "Tobi... he was about to kill me, I could feel my death nearing with each step he took, but before he got the chance, you stepped in and saved me, I owe you my life,"

Rem pursed his lips, all he was trying to do was to get revenge for Tobi forcefully taking him to a C-grade dungeon... he had even wished to come later, so that they would be hurt more so he didn’t understand how he did anything good nevertheless Rem remained unfazed.

Before they could say anything more, Drew signaled to all of them.

"Let’s get moving!" He cried out, "If we leave early, we might even return before Dinner time!"

The Apprentices each walked in the direction of the white dungeon gate, their goals were already in mind and it was time... they walked through the gates and their realities morphed, being replaced with a deep dark cave being lit by several crystals which adorned the ceiling.

As Cole finally found himself in a dungeon, he didn’t feel much different – a dungeon... it didn’t feel much more different from being in a cave but the others, Krista and Mika could feel the different presences of monsters, their bodies shook a bit but their resolve stood firm... soul energy clasped around their clenched fists in unison as the first series of monsters advanced toward this side of the Dungeon.

Death Wolves!

There were a lot of them, and each Apprentice assumed their combat stance. Drew stood behind, a palm on his sword as he watched the battle unfold – if anybody was in danger, he would rescue the person. They had to garner their battle experience with monsters, this was what every class at the mansion was going to lead to... A battle with monsters.

If Drew protected them here, they would never learn to protect themselves in the face of monsters – they would always rely on someone else to protect them and that was not how he wanted his Apprentices to be. The first experience was always the most endearing one but everything after that was easy.

Mika gulped as she sighted the Death wolf that locked eyes with her – she was constantly reminded of the Hellhound’s eyes but her fists clenched, she was determined to brave past the storm... she needed to get revenge.

Mika shot off the ground in a burst of soul energy, and the other Apprentices followed except for Rem – he of course wanted to see how they would fare against the monsters.
