Chapter 93: Human Greed

Ruby waved Rem goodbye as the youth quickly left the bar – after paying for his meal of course. She gritted her teeth, they had quite a talk but Rem had kept to himself most of the time. She had at least managed to learn that he was not from Orion but rather from Orion.

’All the way from the other side,’ Ruby thought, ’I wonder how it feels to be from that town,’

There were rumors that the place was terrifying with the prices increasing constantly, but before she had the chance to ask Rem about things, he had already begun to start packing up... he wanted to leave and she couldn’t stop him. Ruby was certainly more intrigued in his character but she didn’t say anything, she would get to know him better over time.

Rem entered an alleyway and emerged shortly after wearing his Black market disguise, he had always been sure to wear it before entering the Black Market – as he approached the Black market, he felt that the place was rowdy and that was advantageous as well as disadvantageous.

’Hopefully there are no fights tonight;’ Rem thought, even though there were guards situated at the black market... fights still occurred within and most of the time, they weren’t settled by the guards. Rem slinked into the black market, moving through the shadows silently and made his way to his salesman, who waited at the stall patiently.

As soon as he saw Rem’s mask, his face brightened up and Rem threw a pouch at him wordlessly. The man caught it and unveiled the pouch, once he saw the magic stones, he quickly dropped silver coins worth the amount on the table but as he was about to add the last one, a hand suddenly slammed onto the table and Rem sighted a burly man with bulging muscles – he didn’t stare at Rem neither did he stare at the stall owner, his gaze was only on the silver coins with greed written all over his face.

"What did he sell to guarantee so many coins?" The Burly man asked, his eyes never leaving the coins... Rem’s hand was on the shortsword he had been given at the mansion, it was hidden within the cloak and any small advancement toward his money would instigate the strike.

"That’s not your business," The stall owner said, the tension in the air palpable – the man could count the silver coins on the table... There was a reason why the Black market was such a dangerous place for people and merchants alike, because they could easily be killed in the lawless area – this was a location far away from the eyes of the guards.

The Burly man noticed Rem’s movements and smirked, his hand rested on his blade as well.

"If you wouldn’t mind, I want you to split the money in half, you can take half and I’ll keep half," The burly man said with his smirk – nobody wanted to fight his burly figure especially since his skill had awakened as well but Rem couldn’t care less, he sent a warning glare through the mask... this was the man’s last chance to back off from Rem’s property.

"No,"

The burly man turned to Rem, stabbing his Magic Iron sword forward with speed laced in it’s movement only for Rem to counter it with his shortsword, sparks flying in the air. Rem used his smaller body to his advantage and moved into the air, kicking the burly Cavalier right in the face – he had decided to use just a little bit more than what he showed in the dungeon and the Cavalier smashed into a caravan, saliva rolling out from his mouth as his eyes grew blank, Just a single kick from Rem had been this... devastating.

The man quickly sat up and his eyes landed on Rem, hate raged within his blue orbs as he charged forward only to notice that the silver coins had vanished... his body emanated killing intent as he brought his sword down, Rem defended it with his shortsword. The man drew his weapon back and brought his foot down but Rem weaved through the stomp, climbing on the man’s knee and sending another kick straight for the face.

The man lost his composure and fell over but he wasn’t done yet, he threw his weapon at Rem who was stationary in the air. Rem deflected the weapon instantly and landed on the ground, the merchant was at a loss of words but he soon straightened himself.

’He brings magic stones everytime,’ The merchant said, ’Of course he’s one of those successful and powerful dungeon raiders,’

He had been able to deal with a Cavalier bigger than him with two quick strikes, they were not even laced with soul energy and they were already deadly – Rem couldn’t imagine what would begin to happen to this man if he started to use Soul energy to compliment his strikes.

Even after losing his weapon, the man stood up again and attacked with a swift punch but Rem held his hand back, he was already tired of the games being played... he dragged the man toward him by the hand and the Cavalier was propelled toward him instantly only for Rem’s fist to strike him in the stomach – the force in the attack was enough to knock him out completely. Rem looked around, people were obviously used to the fights in the Black market – It was always one person lusting for the other’s money or equipment and it always happened in places like this, further away from the reach of the guards.

The merchant looked at the table and his eyes widened – the silvers were gone but seeing Rem walking away, he felt assured that all of the silvers were with Rem.

’So that’s the power of this man, huh? I’m glad that he’s one of my customers,’ The merchant thought as he looked at the bag of magical stones he had just been given – he was going to sleep well tonight.

Rem sighed and adjusted his mask upon leaving the Black market, he was going straight home for some rest and then directly to the GUILD in Reifall town tomorrow. He had a long day ahead of him. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
