The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 84: Drodlings
Drodlings had long snouts and fur that covered their eyes but within their short claws was a terrifying strength and durability – amongst the monsters existent in the D-grade, the Drodling was one of the most feared.
Rem’s grip on his sword intensified as his feet landed on the ground, the weapon was made out of Magic steel which was much more durable than magic iron but far less easier to pour soul energy into – Rem gazed at the wreckage and destruction caused merely moments after the monsters had made their appearance.
Everyone was focused by their own battle, and this gave Rem enough time to even use his own magic but he didn’t need it, he just made his way to the first Drodling and extended his sword forward, wrapping it in soul energy.
The Drodling turned in his direction and swung it’s claws at Rem who was already in front of it, Rem who took into consideration that despite people being focused on their battles, they were also looking at him – ready to jump in if he needed any help, slowed down his speed and made a quick leap to the right with speed similar to what he showed the Captain earlier, Rem was able to dodge the claw strike and retaliate with a slash filled with soul energy... Like the captain had told them at the start of the clash, they should aim for the knees and hands, these were the weakest parts of the body of a Drodling and where Rem was targeting as well.
He sliced off the arms and quickly went for the knees, making short work of them and causing the Drodling to fall on the ground helpless... it lost a lot of blood due to the devastating wounds and soon died.
To others, it looked like Rem was staring at the wounds but in truth, he was staring at the System screen. After reaping his reward, he was surprised by the new skill he gained...
[Unique Skill: Earth Power]
Although he was curious in what Earth power would do, he was more invested in slaying more of them and absorbing their souls. Rem had always wondered what would happen if he absorbed too much of one species of monster but now he had to focus everything into the battle ahead, there were quite a number of Drodlings on the battlefield and that meant Rem would be able to kill a lot himself, even if he didn’t kill them, he could still absorb their souls with the help of the System so no matter what Rem chose – he would still be reaping the benefits from it.
After finishing his first Drodling easily, Rem leapt ouf of the way – a Drodling claw was already attempting to slam atop him but the Apprentice weaved through the attack easily, Drodlings were a pretty easy target once you found their weak spots and one had to strike these found weak spots quickly, the claws of a Drodling were strong enough to shatter a Magic Iron sword with relative ease, Rem shot forward and sliced off the Drodling’s arms with one slash, blood erupted from both wounds and Rem quickly took out it’s legs. He made it look easy but the Cavaliers belonging to the party.
"Ah!" A Cavalier cried out while trying to slice off a Drodling’s arms only to get stabbed in the knee by the Drodling’s powerful claw – not everyone could be strong enough or have enough soul energy to pull off what Rem did... He was special and the Cavaliers who had claimed to protect him earlier were now worried by their own skins but Rem couldn’t care less.
Without their assistance, he slaughtered a few more Drodlings and the monsters began retreating into the ground, the Captain had done quite a number on their forces, making sure that they weren’t coming back anytime soon.
The crimson haired Cavalier knelt and pursed his lips.
"Such quick and efficient strikes with maximum accuracy," He said while looking at the ground, "I wish I could have been in that mansion,"
He raised his fist up and wrapped it in soul energy, then the Cavalier brought his fist down and struck the ground with force – web-like cracks spread all over the ground as the monsters were stopped in their tracks. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"You think we’ll let you escape without getting magic stones!" The Cavalier cried out and flexed his muscles.
The grass magus, Ruth glowed in a green aura – she pointed at a hole and roots shot out from the ground, their mass similar to vines except they were spiky.
’She probably learned this skill from a magic diary,’ Rem thought upon seeing that the Magus hadn’t even let a bit of a chant out, ’That means she’s well-off,’
Not all Magus could garner access to Magic diaries, not like the way he had stolen it from the Healing magus at the GUILD, some people actually had to buy it and Rem knew that he had enough silver coins to be able to afford only two... all of his riches which he had garnered from the dungeons would be depleted at once, but Magic diaries couldn’t compare to the powerful abilities he got while absorbing Monster souls.
The roots creeped into the holes and latched unto the static Drodlings, wrapping around their tough skins and heaving them into the air.
"Root spikes!" She cried out and spikes protruded from every part of the roots, piercing deep into every Drodling’s skin and causing them to die instantly, exploding into pulps of blood.
’Despite grass magus being majorly defensive,’ Rem thought, ’There are deadly offensive spells – if she caught me in something like that, I could probably escape by turning into a slime,’
Rem couldn’t believe how much he liked the slime ability now, it made him versatile and able to move around in tight places especially the fact that as long as he had enough magical energy, he could harden the slime and turn it into any offensive weapon he wanted...
’Might as well be the slime monarch,’ Rem joked inwardly.
