The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 83: A New Party
A thin and slightly muscular man with long brown hair and deep crimson eyes – he stared directly at Rem’s eyes and chuckled.
"Your expression, you can sense my soul energy," The man said but Rem didn’t say anything, he just stared blankly at the man then replied to the prior question.
"Excellent sword skills and amazing soul energy manipulation," Rem said, "Instructor Maybel said I’m the best Apprentice as of now,"
"I see," The Man said, "Well I’m Mark and if you do well today, I’ll let you raid with us later,"
"So since you’re good with swords, you don’t mind if we try it out before entering the dungeon," Mark said and took a sword from his waisthold, throwing it at Rem who caught it quickly, "A lot of people usually get to raid with us and this is pretty normal for them, a test of their skills, nobody wants weaklings in a dungeon,"
Rem nodded without a word, he understood – Nobody wanted a deadweight in the dungeon, everyone had to protect themselves in the dungeon especially against the dangerous monsters, there was simply not enough time to worry about others.
"Let’s test your skill,"
Rem steadied his hand on the sword and took a step back, not even a moment later, a sword was thrusted forward – aiming right for his forehead, the world seemed to be going slow now, but in truth, the sword was far too fast.
Rem’s instincts blared as he took even more steps back, narrowly dodging the strikes of the sword. Mark spun the sword and swung at Rem’s neck, moving at a speed that was too fast for Rem to react or so the older man thought... Rem had already seen the attack coming in, if he used his abilities, it would be far easier to dodge this but he had to play his part as Apprentice.
This man wasn’t stronger than Walter, but his presence neared that of the Cavalier Captain.
’I have to make it look like I’m barely dodging,’ Rem thought as he slowed down his speed, barely managing to dodge the sword aimed for his throat. Mark took a step forward, drew closer to Rem and now aimed for his feet, the slash was swift but Rem hopped off the ground and dodged the strike before swinging his own blade at Mark, making sure to lower his true speed as well – in a flash, Mark raised his sword and blocked Rem’s strike.
"You’re much better than I thought," Mark said while pulling back his sword into the sheath, "It seems the instructors in that place are good for something after all, also you can keep that sword, It’ll help you in the dungeon,"
Rem nodded and held the sword tightly, staring at the back of the Man and keeping his urges to himself.
’Keep yourself in check,’ Rem thought, ’Sure taking his soul is possible but think about the consequences, it will be very bad,’
The stronger and denser the soul energy was, the more Rem wanted it but he had to keep himself in check. The crimson haired man from earlier patted his back.
"You’re strong kid," He said, "Able to dodge some attacks from Captain, even though he wasn’t using his full speed, you did pretty well compared to the other people who took this test,"
’Well he talks a lot,’ Rem thought.
They were a party of 8 including Rem and he was glad they were strong, they were about to enter a C-grade dungeon and although Rem could solo one of these easily, he still needed to compare the Team’s power – he already knew what power the Captain, Mark had but about the others... he needed to ensure that if he ever needed to kill them, he would be able to do it once.
They all walked toward the dungeon gate, the impending doom awaiting them at the other side... as they each took a step through the gates, the surroundings around them morphed and Rem soon found himself within a dungeon.
"Jesse, Elliot, To Margaret!" Mark ordered and two Cavaliers rushed to the Healer, surrounding her and holding out their swords... they were to protect the healer with their life.
Despite it only being a C-grade dungeon, it was still dangerous and Rem knew how bad it was to underestimate dungeons... besides there were different creatures residing in different dungeons so it was only natural for the Raiders to pull up their guards.
’You can’t be sure what kind of monsters exist in a dungeon,’ Rem thought while they continued walking – ten minutes had passed already and they hadn’t seen any sort of monster.
"What kind of dungeon is this?" The crimson haired Cavalier asked, "We haven’t seen any monster in it since we entered,"
Rem pursed his lips, his palm visibly clenching the sword tightly... he could feel vibrations, they weren’t going to fight regular monsters but monsters coming from underground.
’I can get a new kind of skill, as long as these aren’t weak monsters,’ Rem thought, as he was growing stronger, he needed stronger skills as well to face against the strong people he was going to have to kill later down the line.
Rem bent his knee and pushed his face against the ground.
"I feel something," Rem muttered, even though it was a mutter – everyone could hear it.
"What are you feeling?!" The crimson haired man shouted as he drew out the weapon.
"Like burrowing," Rem said and suddenly sprung into the air – the ground below him trembled and a claw shot out from the ground, kicking up sand and stone... "We’re being attacked,"
Multiple claws shot out from the ground, surrounding the Cavaliers in a circle and monsters began emerging from the holes they created, they were tall monsters each reaching about two meters tall and covered in brown fur. Mark knew what kind of monsters these were...
"They’re Drodlings!" He cried out, alarming every member of the party, "Aim for their legs and hands,"
Rem kept falling from the air, the sword was hung over his shoulder and glistening with soul energy.
’Drodlings, C-grade,’
’These are surely powerful monsters,’ Rem thought, ’They should give me a new ability that’s good,’
