Chapter 74: Orion’s Plans

Four days later, Rem stood outside Reifall town – his gray eyes gleaming in the sun lifelessly as he began advancing into the town silently, his eyes and gaze were fixated on the surrounding area and he expanded his senses as well. A day after he left, guards had been deployed in Reifall – each of the Cavaliers had been searching for a team of people that managed to raid two dungeons while evading their respective captains but three days later, there had been no such leads and the guards were back at Orion.

Rem chose to strike as their guard would be low but he also prepared himself to meet other Adventurers, which was why he was wearing the gear he used at the Black market – so that his identity would once again be concealed, a Dungeon gate would be open even if someone stepped inside, it would only close after the dungeon has been cleared. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

And in case Rem happened to stumble upon a party, he would try to co-operate with them so that he would take most of the spoils and if they didn’t cooperate, they would be killed.

"Besides I know for a fact that the adventurers here are D grade," Rem muttered, "The strong captains must be like C or B,"

Rem quickly leapt from building to building with magical energy compressed in his feet, making sure his leaps were silent and hard to detect. He found his way to a high building and stared down at the dungeon gates, there were far more dungeon gates than they had been 4 days ago and Rem smiled, he could make a lot of money by raiding them but even though there was a shortage of guards, there were still some roaming around Reifall but nothing Rem couldn’t evade.

"I’m sure they’re regulating the dungeons that have not been entered," Rem said as he leapt off the building, his magus cloak billowing in the air as he landed silently on another building and began heading toward a D-grade dungeon which was already patrolled, "Even though they’re at a shortage, they’re still trying their best to defend against me but sadly for them –"

Rem arrived at the white dungeon gate and leapt into it without a moment’s hesitation... the guards were already quite a distance away after all.

"They picked the wrong time to let their guard down," Rem muttered as his voice was drowned by his reality instantly warping, revealing a cave formation moments after.

Rem could hear a distant dripping of water upon entering the dungeon, his eyes glued to the surroundings – he couldn’t find where the dripping sound was coming from but it didn’t matter, Rem clenched his fist and with a flash of soul energy, his Soul Sickle materialized instantly.

His eyes grew focused as he listened to any slight movements, he was ready to hunt.

Arya pinched the bridge of her nose in utter annoyance and speechlessness, she couldn’t say anything, she wanted to talk but... she wasn’t able to, there was nothing she could say.

"Four dungeon gates vanished from right under our noses," Arya muttered finally, disbelief laced in her words, she couldn’t even believe what she was saying... It had only been two hours since Rem had entered the dungeons and he made quick work of the monsters as well as their bosses.

They had made a makeshift stronghold in Reifall, there were plans already being made to reconstruct the town and clear it of buildings, weak dungeon gates appeared around here and it was the perfect place to build a GUILD as well as some buildings for resting – this way Orion could make sure that their Cavaliers grew stronger than ever and Apprentices might even be given a chance to enter dungeons.

"What do you think we should do about this, Walter?" Arya asked the Cavalier Captain who bared his teeth at the question.

"When they didn’t come over the last four days," Walter said, "I partly thought they already lost interest here – I thought that they would be wiser but they came back, we can’t afford to keep losing dungeons like this,"

They had been assigned by the Mayor in Orion town to watch over what happened in Reifall while the new building plans were being made, the dungeons were supposed to generate the funding for the buildings, after all, the Orion GUILD earned quite a lot of money from the taxes that were paid when the Adventurers sold their respective Magical stones, and this money went to the Mayor who used it to strengthen the town, now the Mayor was planning to develop Reifall and it was a good plan too but there was one problem – the mystery team that hogged all the Magical stones to themselves, and they didn’t sell it to the GUILD as well which meant the profits of the GUILD being reduced in the long run and of course the captains didn’t want that.

"Let’s go after them," Walter said and Arya nodded – it was finally time to give chase.

Rem found himself in the midst of another Dungeon, although this one was different... he had chosen to flee from the other free dungeons as the security around them was heightened now, it was very dangerous and Rem was assured that the Captains would finally intervene, even he wasn’t sure that he would be able to beat them.

’They could be B-rank or above,’ Rem thought, based on the presences they gave off, ’With all the monsters I’ve absorbed so far, even I’m not sure I can take them on without revealing my abilities,’

His trump cards which were his Monster army and his Slime ability are very important abilities which would bend in his favor in any serious battle he would have in the future – it would also ruin his regular reputation if they got out as well so he decided to enter one that was not being watched, A dungeon that was already inhabited by a party.

Rem could hear the sounds of a battle up ahead but there was little he could do, he didn’t want to interfere with the party until it absolutely became necessary or until they were dead, if they were dead, he would be able to clear the dungeon in peace but if they cleared the dungeon and wanted to exit, Rem would be forced to rob them so he was expecting their fates to lean to the former.

This dungeon had a similar cave formation to the first one had been in, and Rem was grateful for that – there were many big rocks and destroyed pillars to serve as hiding spots, as he arrived closer to the sounds of fighting, Rem quickly hid behind a pillar – with that, he could see the battle up ahead and he could also keep himself hidden from prying eyes, but it was not like they would notice him, they were far too busy fighting for their lives.

On his way to this spot, Rem noticed the corpses of Monsters and based on the way they were killed – he believed this group lacked experienced people, every fight seemed like a struggle.

He was right, the battle he was staring at was something that he would be easily able to defeat – he even trusted his fellow Apprentices back at the mansion to do the same, it was a party of five against three death wolves and based on what Rem could see, they had three Cavaliers, one attacking magus and one supporting Magus.

The healer looked visibly strained, there were several veins popping up on not only his face but his neck as well and his skin was turning pale – he had used up far too much magical energy in a short amount of time.

Not every group was as calm and coordinated as the parties Rem had raided with, there were some who were just staring out their journey and there were some filled with hot-headed people but one thing was certain, this group wouldn’t last long...

A Cavalier with bright brown hair leapt forward and stabbed at the first death wolf only for the monster to dodge his strike easily, Rem looked at his strike with contempt – it was hardly laced with soul energy, almost like the man had not laced soul energy in it on purpose.

’From what I can see, he’s not like Cole,’ Rem thought, ’His Soul energy reserves are extremely low though, seems like he had expended a great amount of it before I came,’

"Healer!" The Cavalier cried out, his voice oozing with confidence, "Heal me!"

Rem blankly stared at the Cavalier – he hadn’t been wounded or anything, he had just lost most of his soul energy reserves and he was already requesting for healing.

’Weakling,’ Rem thought as he observed the Cavalier.
