Chapter 62: Acting

Rem realized – the strange attraction he felt toward souls now was because of his new title.

’Soul Hunter’

’It makes me a hunter amongst anybody with a soul – as long as they have a soul, I can hit it directly with my Soul sickle,’ Rem thought, ’But the reason I’ve been craving for their souls is because I’m able to perceive the souls more when they are really powerful and vibrating with energy,’

But he had the soul now and the effect of the title could be restrained, not that he would want to restrain it that much, the souls were very important to his growth. The Soul Sickle was merely a simple expenditure of soul energy in the form of a sickle but it worked in sync with his title to deal the maximum damage on opponents and finally there was the Body Strengthening skill which he newly gained from the Hobo Goblin, this specific skill allowed him to boost his all-round abilities by two! It may not sound like much but considering Rem’s already impressive base abilities, boosting it by two without horns appearing on his forehead would give him a massive advantage in any battle which was tilted against his favor.

Rem glanced over his shoulder, his eyes landing on the return portal and then he sighed, the Soul sickle materialized around his right palm and he quickly gave himself multiple cuts across his body, making sure that they were carved to look like they came from a Monster – he wouldn’t lie, the wounds he was carving onto his own flesh hurt a lot but it was a price he had to pay for power and in the face of the power he had gained, these wounds were small.

The next thing Rem had to do was to suppress his regeneration, if not the slashes would vanish even before he reached the GUILD and his alibi against the death of the party by monsters would vanish – After Rem finished the cuts, he quickly glanced at the Goblin boss laying dead on the ground and without hesitation, he scooped a bit of blood from the corpse and sprayed it across his face, hair and clothes.

The blood wasn’t enough to count as dripping but it was enough and capable of fooling even the sharpest of eyes, with the wounds and blood – Rem didn’t feel confident enough with stepping out of the dungeon, he looked at the unique dungeon sand and scooped it up with his palms, rubbing it all over his face and body like a cream. Moments after, Rem staggered out of the dungeon through the portal, of course he had returned the Death Wolf Boss and also put all the crystals in the Inventory – he was going to make a ton of money.

Rem fell through the door, all eyes focused on him and they darkened as they saw his brutalized figure. The silence in the room was tangible and even Rem could feel it. A Cavalier rushed to Rem and pulled him up, when they saw the condition of his body – they were stupefied and beyond shock.

Terrible bleeding cuts!

Each of them seemed to insinuate that he was attacked by a powerful monster, they were deep enough to be life threatening but somehow the boy was still breathing. Monster blood was splashed all over his face and body, matting his hair and even dripping on the ground, and last but not least that murky sand which was from the dungeon, painting the boy’s face and even some parts of his clothes – he seemed to have fallen a lot of times while in the dungeon.

Despite the wounds that adorned his body, the receptionist recognized him in an instant, he had gone with an experienced group, a Flame Magus and Cavaliers but it seemed that they were killed.

"Get him to the second floor now, tell the Healing Magus to patch him up quickly! The wounds are grave!" The receptionist nearly screamed out but the Cavalier holding him understood within an instant, heaving Rem over his shoulders and rushing upstairs.

Mistakes in the dungeon were common, there was always a chance that one could die in the dungeon and the unlucky ones did – The Dungeon was both a blessing and a curse, a blessing because it created an avenue for people granted with these supernatural abilities to earn money without standing behind shops and selling and a curse because human lives were lost, if a dungeon break happened, a lot of human lives would be lost. At this point, it was regular... Everyone in this world had gotten used to it, but anyone who managed to survive long enough to reach the GUILD could get treated free of charge, of course that was if their injuries were grave. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

Rem was immediately put on a bed that got stained by the mix of his blood and that of the Hobo Goblin – he didn’t have to worry about any of his wounds getting infected, his body after absorbing so many souls had gained a natural resistance toward infections of the like and besides he was currently being examined by Healing magus, experienced in what they did, Healing magic.

A male’s voice sounded, his chant low but filled with meaning.

"Let the lights shine bright, let them see what my naked eyes cannot see," He muttered, "Let them open a way for me to see, Examination,"

The Spell: Examination worked similar an X-ray but it wasn’t as powerful as modern day technology, it was only a low tier spell. After the chant, the Magus was able to see Rem’s wounds, they stretched a lot more deeper than anyone else had expected and he felt that the monster that Rem had encountered had not only been experienced, but it’s claws were as sharp as Magic steel.

After analyzing the cuts and slight bruises, he clapped and dispelled the spell while informing the other Magus of where the wounds were and where the magic should be concentrated on – Rem was still conscious, listening to their conversation and honing his acting skills for what would happen after his awakening.

He was so focused that he didn’t even notice them finish the chant, they placed their arms over his body and a soothing aura wrapped around Rem’s wounds... the boy felt calm, his mind and body – they were at peace.

"Heal!" They cried out in symphony, a rush of healing magic rejuvenated Rem’s veins as the spell concluded.
