The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 56: Shadow Magus
Mika clashed with Krista for the umpteenth time today – their figures covered by their respective auras, it had been a day since their team mates had left the mansion and the girls had been in a tense training regimen, aiming to increase their combat powers.
’During the power against Tobi – I wasn’t strong enough to defeat him,’ Mika thought, her eyes could vividly remember Rem smashing through the skull of the demon quite easily... she needed to reach his heights. Cole was not left out in that aspect, he had dealt a lot of damage to Tobi, although the regeneration from the Demon ensured his victory – if he didn’t have any regeneration, the battle would have leaned in Cole’s victory.
’Everyone is becoming stronger,’ Mika thought as she pulled her body back, evading a drop kick from Krista – the kick was packed with enough soul energy to make web-like cracks echo around the field, ’So I need to as well, so I can protect... him,’
The image of Rem was vivid within her head, she wanted to... she wanted to protect him. She couldn’t bear what happened with Tobi anymore, Rem was not going to be endangered anymore. She would make sure of it.
"We’re growing," Mika said as she sighted Krista’s eyes, highlighted with violet aura – the beastkin quickly spun around, landing a powerful punch on Mika’s shoulder but before impact, a pink aura burst to life around her shoulder, tanking the attack.
Mika smiled, she had gotten the basics of partial enforcement down!
Instructor Maybel watched over them as they sparred, ensuring that they didn’t take it too far or injure each other too much.
"Yes we are," Krista said, glaring at Mika while soul energy emanated from her fists – the burning flames of soul energy were rapidly increasing, Mika’s eyes widened as the soul energy seemingly connected – turning into a violet staff.
She could never forget... Krista’s special skill, Soul Weaponization. She could forge any kind of weapon utilizing her soul energy in a matter of seconds although the quality of the weapon would depend entirely on her focus as well as the amount of soul energy she possessed.
Right now, she could only use one weapon at a time and even that one weapon was draining – Krista’s palms, each grabbing onto the staff were pulsating with soul energy.
Even though Mika was a bit jealous since she didn’t have a skill, it couldn’t change the fact that she needed to grow stronger to have one, she would have an easier time protecting Rem if she had a powerful skill.
"Not holding back, huh?" Mika muttered, the tattoo on her shoulder vibrated as soul energy rushed through her entire body in rapid bursts. Krista leapt forward aiming to close the distance between herself and Mika – she was fast, appearing right in front of Krista in a matter of seconds while stabbing the staff forward.
Mika leaned her body to the right, dodging the thrust with impeccable accuracy – her left fist was suddenly engulfed with pink aura and Mika punched Krista’s stomach, Krista had spent more time on Soul Weaponization so she hadn’t mastered Soul enforcement like Mika so she tanked the strike head-on.
Krista gritted her teeth, a little bit of blood trailing down her lips but nevertheless, her staff descended downward rapidly to Mika. Mika pushed herself backward, utilizing Krista’s body to her advantage and instantly began sprinting away – a weapon created from Soul Weaponization was not only dangerous as the victim could incur physical damage but it could also affect the flow of soul energy as well.
Krista landed on the ground, she pushed the ends of the staff together and turned the staff into a single orb of soul energy, Krista closed her eyes and focused on manipulating the shape of the orb... turning it into a pair of daggers, their violet ethereal figures glistening in the sunlight.
The beastkin smiled as she gripped the daggers by their hilts, shooting in the direction of Mika with a burst of soul energy and Beastkin speed, a terrifying combination. By the time Mika turned around, it was already too late as Krista was behind her.
"Slow," Krista said as she stabbed both daggers forward, aiming for Mika’s back – Mika responded with a powerful partial enforcement, tanking the strike from the daggers although she felt her soul energy reserves go down a bit but it was better than being stabbed through the back by those pesky daggers. Mika turned around, her right palm radiating in soul energy as she thrusted it forward toward Krista’s stomach.
’The same move won’t work twice,’ Mika realized, Krista’s current stance was fit to perfectly counter her strike... Krista had already extended her first dagger forward, it was only a matter of time.
"Enough!" Maybel shouted, stopping the both Apprentices mid-fight. They both turned to the Instructor, her palms had been bandaged a bit, a majority of the wounds – especially burn marks which she received from Cole’s shockwave, after tanking it twice, weren’t completely healed even after applying the Healing potion to them. The Head maid said they would go away with time, with a small amount of the healing liquid being applied every day.
"Your battle was a great one but both of you have grown weary from using a great amount of not only soul energy but Physical endurance, take a break and return," Maybel said, "Go for lunch,"
As both girls returned inside, A man wearing a suit with a mask over his face appeared from the shadows behind a tree situated next to where she was standing.
"What do you want?" Maybel asked without staring at the mysterious man.
"Answers," The man replied while adjusting the mask, "It’s hard to breathe in this thing,"
"If you’re talking about the Graveyard incident, then I have no answers for you," Maybel said, clenching her bandaged fists, "I think you should be investigating your fellow Magus, no Cavalier is capable of containing souls,"
"No Cavalier yet," The man said, the wind intensifying, "That doesn’t mean that there is no cavalier, Maybel. As you can see, most of the Cavaliers and even the Channelers are off in the Forest of Death searching for the culprit, but we both know that they will come empty handed,"
"Maybe so," Maybel said, "But that doesn’t give you the right to question any of my students, they are children,"
"Surely one or two must exhibit a kind of demea-"
Before he could finish what he was saying, Maybel grabbed him by the shirt and slammed him into the tree, rattling the tree upon impact.
"None..." Maybel said and the man chuckled a bit.
"You’re getting as hostile as ever," He said while his body began entering the tree, "I will get my answers, and inspect every single one of them- nobody is left out in this investigation,"
With that said, he vanished into the tree and Maybel sighed.
"Damned Shadow Magus,"
