Chapter 55: Dungeon Raid

Rem sighed after pulling the cloak into his inventory – he knew they might have already learnt of the fact that the graveyard was devoid of souls and discovered the bodies of the Channelers he had disposed of yesterday so instead of making them isolate their search within Orion, he led them to Onio but of course the marks would next to a stream, and to avoid them tracing the footprints back to him – he made sure he used Tobi’s demonic shapeshifter body to create them. By the time the forces assigned to recover the killer came to the stream, he would be long gone to the next town which lay over the horizon.

’But I need to have some money,’ Rem thought. Purchases had to be made at some point, he needed foodstuff, a bag to carry them and other things, although he wished he could just feed off the essence of the souls but even tht was impossible.

"Well there’s a GUILD nearby, maybe I can be a Bag carrier again," Rem muttered, so far, nobody in the mansion had gone into another dungeon and although it was a different town, there were still the same dungeon portals popping up.

Being a Bag carrier had it’s benefits too and with his higher power, he could not only carry the bag effortlessly but snag any stray crystals as well as gain strength from monsters, everything was a win.

#####

The GUILD wasn’t a new place for Rem, he had been here before, that was the first time he met Drew and the others. Being a Bag carrier was an easy job but you had to have a license for it, a license and sign a contract promising that they wouldn’t be held responsible for anything that happened within the Dungeon. Although Rem didn’t think he’d ever be needing the license again – he was forced to.

Rem approached the woman at the counter and extended his license forward, she gave him a glance before scrutinizing his license thoroughly. Shortly after she finished, she pointed at a group of older dungeon raiders and the big bag that lay beside one of them.

"Need a Bag carrier?!" She exclaimed outwardly and they glanced at Rem – the leader of the party, a man who wore crimson billowing robes nodded and Rem took his license from the receptionist before approaching the party.

Mika, Cole and the others had garnered quite a bit of popularity after facing off Tobi to defend the citizens who were in the stadium, Rem didn’t appear till much later, that was when everyone was evacuated but it was not like he cared about the extra popularity that they had managed to make for themselves... he was more concerned about the job at hand.

With a scrutinizing gaze, he analyzed the leader of the party and sighed a bit.

’He’s just a magus,’ Rem thought, ’Although he’s a lot stronger than the ones I faced last night, he’s a fire magus and that means he has more explosive power than the other Magus,’

Each type of Magus were classified into a grade depending on the explosive power of their spells, Fire Magus were at the top of that list because the element known as Fire was very volatile and dangerous as well. But Rem was confident in his new reserves of magical energy and his summons, in case the party decided to turn against him in the dungeon, or in a situation where they were killed, he could escape.

This party was only comprised of five people, four Cavaliers with D-grade gear and this middle-aged man with crimson hair. Their combined destructive power wasn’t much to write home about but co-ordination was one of the most important elements in conquering a Dungeon.

"We’re going to a Dungeon gate located near the outskirts of the town," The Magus said and pointed to the hefty baggage which lay on the ground, "You’re a Baggage carrier and our heavy baggage contains everything essential to survive in the D-grade Dungeon we are raiding – so you’ll be situated at the center of our formation to ensure that the baggage is not damaged,"

"Do you have any combat capabilities?"

He wasn’t like Drew’s party – this Magus wanted to know how Rem helped him combat-wise and he wanted to prepare in advance for the horrors that the dungeon presented.

"I’m good with a sword," was Rem’s short reply as he heaved the heavy bag over his shoulders without much trouble. The Magus was taken aback but he nodded.

"You’ll hold a Magic Iron Longsword then, any monster that breaks through the formation and tries to reach you and the supplies, dispatch it immediately," The Magus said and placed his hand on Rem’s shoulder, "If your performance is good, I might even reward you with 10 bronze coins," 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

10 Bronze coins was a pretty good amount to be paid for a Bag carrier and not to mention that he was also going to nab a soul crystal or two without them looking, so he was going to earn a lot from this raid.

"Sure," Rem said and then they headed off, in the direction of the exit and then to the Dungeon.

#####

Upon stepping into the dungeon, Rem was welcomed by the dripping sound of water – like the Magus had said, it was a D-grade dungeon and that means the monsters contained within here weren’t too much for him to deal with.

"Formation!" The Magus cried out, the other four Cavaliers positioned themselves around Rem – each of them holding their swords up and moving radially around the boy in sync, it was a basic formation but quite effective for taking care of the weakest. On Rem’s right palm was a Magic Iron Longsword, he gripped the hilt tightly while using his other palm to stabilize the bag. They clearly had a long raid ahead of them.

The chitter of Goblins could soon be heard as they rushed through the rocky floors – their weapons in their arms. The Magus had already started chanting though, his right palm enveloped by flames.

"Envelop my enemies in flames and burn their essences away! Flame Meteor!" He cried out as he finished the chant, the flames rotating around his palm increased in intensity, lighting up the entire dungeon with heat.

’If only...’ Rem thought as the meteor of flames rushed toward the Goblins, engulfing their terrifying numbers within a span of seconds, ’I could absorb humans and gain their skills... I would have already taken this guy,’

"Alright, I want to see what you guys can do," The Magus said, turning to Rem – failing to register the greed that existed within his eyes.
