Chapter 54: Unique Skill: Soul Hunter (Part 3)

Andar lay on the ground, a blade going through his head and his body unmoving. Cole stood above him, his eyes focused on Andar’s expression. There was no visible scratch on his body and the jagged blade, it was still revolving with soul energy – he had won the battle.

Blood spilled out from the corpse and Cole looked at it, his expression unchanging – it was just another corpse amidst the many corpses which now engulfed the town, the sense of dread had already vanished and there was a stilling calmness ensuing, Cole’s eyes locked with his sister who was tearing up and he appeared right in front of her, undoing the restrictions which held her down.

Megan teared up, she couldn’t believe it – was it over?

"Big brother..." Megan said and Cole hugged her, he could understand what she was going through... everyone close to them had died, "We’ll get through this,"

[You have gained a Unique Title]

The air around him vibrated as that single tab appeared before his very eyes, a unique pulse of magic shrouded his entire figure – every summon on the battlefield stopped a response and even the souls which were yet to be attacked were stopped.

[Soul Hunter]

Green aura surrounded Rem’s body, echoing and vibrating around his ethereal figure as he recalled the effects of a title – they gave him certain skills exclusive to the title, if he lost the title, the skill would be lost too!

His magical energy, pulsating from his soul wrapped around his body and Rem groaned a bit.

[You have gained Unique Skill – Soul Sickle]

’Seems like today is a Notification fest,’ Rem thought as his right arm glowed, magical energy gathering on his palm – extending forth like a blade. The blade was semblant to a sickle, but even Rem could feel that it was very sharp, he clenched his palm and the blade elongated, his cloak billowed in the wind. Every soul in the graveyard shook as they stared at the Hunter who stood before them.

Rem waved the weapon in the air, getting used to it. He wanted to read the information for the skill as well as the title but he didn’t have much time remaining here, his miniature army charged forward and he patted on the side of the Wolf King Boss.

"Let’s go," Rem said as he dashed forward with Flash movement – there was nobody close to the Cemetery at this time and even though they were, they wouldn’t be able to see the battle unfolding before them – the souls of the ghosts were different from any other soul that existed in this world.

They were invisible to the eyes of a wielder with soul energy and even magical energy, there was only a kind of magus that could witness Ghosts – Channeler Magus, and Rem already discarded the two Channeler Magus which were here.

His scythe stabbed into the center of a soul, it vanished immediately as Rem tapped the yes button and absorbed it, he quickly ran around the graveyard stabbing and absorbing various souls... the scythe was sharp and cut through the ghosts in an instant, making quick work of them and alongside his miniature monster army, Rem was successfully able to harvest the soul of every soul existing within the graveyard.

The Mayor walked into the graveyard with a Channeler magus in tow, the magus visibly trembling as they stood at the entrance.

"Do you know what caused this... disturbance?" The Mayor asked to which the Magus shook his head, his eyes couldn’t believe what they were seeing – it was impossible. His eyes turned red as he strained himself from cursing, for he was in the face of the Mayor himself, An S-grade Cavalier. But everything happening here was beyond the comprehension of a Mere Cavalier, even the Channeler could not understand what was going on here.

’Dedo... Julius... what happened here?’ He thought while clenching his fist, and then staring at the Mayor in response – "The Graveyard is devoid of any souls, and I have not seen my comrades either,"

It was too much to process, a graveyard was supposed to be gloomy not only because of the fact that dead bodies were stored here – but because of the vengeance that some souls harbored, and now there were no souls within the vast expanse of the graveyard, even the perpetrator who caused all of this had wiped all traces of his / her own magical energy.

"Is it possible they are the one-"

Before the Mayor could finish speaking, the Channeler defended them.

"They are not like that," The Channeler Magus said, "They would stand by their positions until the end but that leaves an even bigger question,"

Both Magus and Cavalier stared at the Graveyard, devoid of any souls.

"The bodies have not been tempered with, neither have the tombs, but their souls have been stolen, I don’t believe I’ve ever heard of such an ability," The Channeler said, "It’s virtually impossible to take souls away, especially from a sacred place like the Graveyard,"

"Well it is now," The Mayor huffed, "I want you to make a survey of the town, check if there’s anything irregular that links to this ’anomaly’, and also your fellow Magus tasked with defending this place – I want them tracked down this instant,"

Two hours later, with the assistance of fellow Cavaliers and Channeler magus – both Channelers were found in the stream, their dead bodies floating atop the water but this path led to the forest of death, there were even some bloody footsteps leading to the forest.

"So... it’s from Onio?" A Channeler asked while a B-grade Cavalier analyzed the footsteps, he looked up and raised his arm up to the C-grades which came with him.

"They’re real and they were made by the murderer, it’s heading to Onio so let’s give chase and intercept it in the forest!" He exclaimed while rushing forward, heading to the forest. Soon after, 25 Cavaliers – 2 B-grades and 23-C grades as well as 8 Channeler Magus entered the forest, in search of the murderer of their comrade.

Rem yawned as he stretched.

’That was quite a long comfortable night,’ Rem thought as he got off the bed – he was in the inn after all.
