Chapter 182: The Land Within The Cave (Part 2)

The Vice-captain’s proclamation caused Rem to turn to her, and he saw it – her eyes were burning with rage and her trembling palm held her sword, pointing it at him.

’There’s hate in them,’ Rem observed, she looked exactly how he looked when he had lost his father, ’Did she take a liking to the Captain?’

Soul energy burst to life around her sword.

"I’ll kill you!" She cried out but Rem didn’t pay any more attention to her, he had gotten his revenge and he needed to move on – observing the System panel in front of him, he absorbed Yokama’s soul and got his skills.

The others, especially the members of the attacking force were on guard... their weapons drawn and their eyes fixated on Rem’s next move.

Rem stood up and looked at them; they wouldn’t be able to cause him that much trouble even if they came at him at their full strength. His eyes soon left them and wandered over the horizon, he saw something... A strange crooked mountain.

’That’s worth investigating,’ Rem thought, now that he killed Yokama – he was stuck with going against the Boss alone, there was no way anyone here would trust him enough to even find or raid the Boss room with him.

He had been keeping his true abilities under wraps, it was only normal that they wouldn’t be able to trust him, after all, he wouldn’t trust anyone that decided to hide something important like that from him.

"Ever since Yokama told me you were from Onio! I knew you had some shady work going on," The Vice-captain shouted out, "You son of a bitch!"

The last outburst earned Rem’s attention as an appendage made out of soul energy shot out from his back and toward the Vice-captain that was rooted in place, unable to stand by her claims of wanting to kill Rem – her legs trembled as the fear of death loomed over her but two Cavaliers moved past her, their respective weapons glowering in soul energy as they matched Rem’s appendage.

The Mages in the squad weren’t lacking, they each let out their respective chants before using magic – a bolt of lightning sizzled through the air as well as several balls of flames but Rem was unfazed, he moved out of the way of the fireballs and let them collide with the Lightning bolt, both magical attacks clashing.

The Cavaliers holding back Rem’s appendage were slowly getting overwhelmed by the sheer strength behind it.

’I’ve faced a lot of things in my life but nothing like this,’ One of them thought while gritting his teeth, channeling more soul energy into his sword to gain the upper hand but his soul energy wasn’t enough to overwhelm the massive appendage.

The other Cavaliers had begun moving toward Rem but the Apprentice created an appendage for each Cavalier, stopping them before they could reach him. He made sure to grab the Mages before they set off any more spells, he didn’t want to reveal more of his long roster of skills.

The Apprentices stood amidst all this, too shocked to even utter a word – Rem had been their ally, he had helped them out, sometimes with hunting and he even defeated Zarchary. It was unspoken but they held a great amount of respect for him.

Mika gripped her hair, unable to make sense of it all. She didn’t get what he was doing, she didn’t get what was happening but she knew that the Captain was dead...

Tero on the other hand was shocked speechless, he had no words to say about what was unfolding in front of him – there was a side of him that wanted to approach Rem and talk about what he had just witnessed but there was another side of him that wanted to stay away, he didn’t know whether Rem would attack him. He had just seen a crazy side of Rem after all.

Megan hugged herself, speechless at what she had just seen and the blood staining Rem’s face as well as his knuckles made it hard for her to think – she hadn’t expected it, they all hadn’t expected it, they hadn’t expected that they would need to turn against their ally.

"What are you guys doing?!" The Vice captain shouted out, "Rush into battle!" 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

But before anyone could fathom what was going on, the appendages as well as Rem had vanished into thin air, like they had never existed.

"He escaped,"

"He was probably scared so he ran away, we have more numbers against him after all,"

Rem watched them from a distance, he didn’t want to fight – it would be a waste of his energy to engage them in combat, he would just be burning through energy for no good reason. His eyes floated over to the crooked mountain which was still in the distance, there was something about it that seemed strange.

Rem landed in front of the mountain and found a singular entrance, despite it being a towering crooked mountain – it had only a single entrance.

Rem stepped inside the cave, it was dark and gloomy just like any cave he had been inside but there was something about this that felt different, the world around Rem changed... the darkness unraveling as he continued walking, soul energy permeated in the air and the cave glowed.

His surroundings changed immediately as he found himself standing in a lush grassland, the bright sun hung in the sky casting an ethereal glow on Rem’s face... it felt so calm and serene. Rem felt his mind being calmed the more he basked in the sunlight but it also felt unnatural.

His eyes widened.

"Illusion," He muttered under his breath and his surroundings dispelled, turning to nothing but darkness. Rem floated in this world of darkness, his body moving with the flow... there was nothing solid to hold or stand on, it just felt like he was floating aimlessly without any sense of direction.

’Weird,’ Rem thought, it would surely be weird if this was the Boss room and he had to fight the boss while floating around...
