Chapter 126: Stuck With Dead weight

The scorpion was instantly slashed in half, the holy flames ravaging it’s body as Rem absorbed it’s soul.

’The Holy flames are really destructive when wielded to Maximum efficiency,’ Rem thought, ’But I can see the problem the Channeler that attacked me was having issues with – Magical reserves, to use the flames just now cost Rem a lot of Magical energy but by absorbing the souls of these monsters, he was able to get them back.

"I’m alone so I can be unrestrained," Rem muttered under his breath, if he met the Rune wolf again – he could fight it at his full strength and kill it, "But those runes need to be studied,"

Each rune gave it a boost in it’s powers, boosting one stat at a time according to what Rem could see there but he would probably able to surpass it with his Beastkin form... A shout suddenly pulled him out of his thoughts as he recognized the voice immediately.

’That girl – what is she doing here?’ Rem thought as he ran out of the Dungeon and sighted the same young woman who had gone on patrol duty with him when they faced the Rune wolf – he gritted his teeth as needles shot toward her from other Scorpions.

Rem moved quickly, his figure turning into a blur as he appeared in front of her, his Shortsword glowing in soul energy. With quick movements, he deflected every single one of the needles coming her way... She might look like nothing but Rem knew she was a B-grade Healer and the party needed her in case the other healer was killed.

The woman looked up to see that Rem had defended her and a teary smile stretched across her lips.

"Thank you," She said but Rem was more concerned with how he was going to cut through the skin of the Blood scorpions, he would have used Holy flames but she was here and he had to restrict the powers that he used in fear that she would report his power to Captain Yokama when they met up later... In the end, Rem’s muscles bulked and his power steadily increased, he zipped forward with immense speed and slashed through every Blood scorpion with relative ease with the Body Strengthening skill – it really came in handy during times like these.

Rem deactivated the skill shortly after and looked at the Healer he was stuck with.

’Why couldn’t it be someone helpful like Krista, Mika or Tobi or even that cocky kid – Tero,’ Rem thought while shaking his head in disappointment. This woman had virtually no use in combat, she panicked whenever she saw a monster and to top it all off, she was really bad at guard duty, but he wouldn’t feel too good if he left her to die just like that.

"Come on, let’s go," Rem said while tucking his Shortsword back into it’s sheath, he would just take things the way they were and hoped it got better from here on out.

The Healer scrambled to her feet immediately and began walking away with Rem, they didn’t know where they were in the dungeon or where the others were, Aegi had sent everyone to random places in the B-grade dungeon so it was inevitable that some people would die – if one was really unlucky, they would find themselves in the Boss room.

’As long as there are shadows, Shadow Jump can take me anywhere within this dungeon,’ Rem thought and while it sounded pretty helpful, it was equally as dangerous – he doubted he had enough power to face against the Boss and meeting the dungeon Boss with his current strength was akin to suicide.

There were no more Blood scorpions after the last pack that Rem faced and he guessed that they had left the Blood scorpion territory but it seemed like they would not be allowed to rest because a Monster was moving toward their direction with a speed that was awfully familiar to Rem... he had expanded his senses so that he would be able to keep up with any monster that came within attacking range but he hadn’t expected it to come again.

The Rune Hound appeared behind the Healer, baring it’s teeth at the girl who screamed aloud. Rem was already steps ahead, he pushed her out of the way and thrusted his Shortsword forward but the Rune Hound dodged his blade mid-air, landing on the ground and letting off a howl at Rem.

’I didn’t expect to meet it again so soon,’ Rem thought while taking a Combat stance. The Healer was more reasonable than last time and scurried away, The Rune Hound didn’t even notice her running away – it’s hateful gaze was on Rem.

Silence ensued between the two fighters as they measured their strengths up silently and then suddenly they propelled at each other with maximum speed. Rem’s shortsword clashed with the Rune Hound’s claws and sparks enveloped their respective weapons, Rem pulled back his Shortsword and bent over to his knees, evading a slash from the Rune Hound. Seeing the clear opening, Rem threw a powerful kick at the Rune Hound’s chest and it connected sending the beast skidding backward and smashing into the ground the next instant... Rem sprinted toward the Rune Hound in an attempt to ensure he didn’t stop pressuring the Beast, he didn’t want to leave any opening for the Rune Hound to attack him with. The Monster stood up moments later but Rem had successfully closed the distance between himself and it, swinging his Shortsword at the Rune Hound’s neck while coating it with flames – he was going for the kill.

Before his blade could reach the Rune Hound’s neck, the ground trembled and blue aura engulfed the Beast, increasing it’s speed by several folds. The rune appeared on it’s forehead once again and it vanished into thin air, just as Rem’s sword came down.

’I was too slow,’ Rem thought while his instincts blared, the monster was right behind him – it’s teeth threatening to clamp against his neck only for a powerful burst of flames to collide with it’s face, sending the Rune Hound reeling backward.

Rem immediately activated the Body strengthening skill, feeling his body grow even stronger – his muscles bulged, veins surged around his forehead and arms as he sprinted toward the Rune Hound, swinging his sword at the Monster coated with blue aura – the Rune Hound vanished into thin air as Rem’s shortsword came down but Rem quickly put off a wall of flames beside him, defending himself against three powerful slashes from the Rune Hound.

"With more speed, one would think that it would be impossible to defeat you," Rem said as he slashed through the wall of flames, bringing his blade down on the Rune Hound that vanished once again, "But in reality, you become more predictable,"

He spun around and stabbed his Shortsword into the forehead of the Rune Hound much to the Monster’s surprise, Rem wasn’t willing to let this chance go to waste as he pulled back his blade and unleashed an onslaught of slashes coated with flames, the slashes didn’t miss and burns soon appeared on the majestic fur of the Rune Hound – the rune on it’s forehead had disappeared and the speed boost it once had was meaningless in this situation... The Rune Hound leaped backward, making distance between itself and Rem and howled summoning forth another rune on it’s forehead.

A crimson aura pervaded it’s body and a red rune appeared on it’s forehead as it looked at Rem vengefully. The Rune Hound immediately propelled itself at Rem – slashing at the Apprentice but Rem was prepared, he vanished from the spot where he had been standing while appearing behind the Rune Hound.

The slash vibrated the ground as four slash marks shot through the air and engraved into the wall, Rem had been faster by evading the slash and aiming a diagonal slash toward the Hellhound but this rune that greatly increased the strength of the Rune Hound, enhanced the strength of every part of it’s body. The Rune Hound’s tail slammed into his chest and sent him shooting backward, creating a crater in the opposite wall.

Rem coughed up blood as he hadn’t expected such a strike, his chest throbbed in pain – he hadn’t expected a single hit from the Rune Hound’s tail to deal so much damage to him. Suddenly a healing aura coated him and prompted him to look in the Healer’s direction, her eyes sparkling with determination – something Rem hadn’t seen before.

The Rune Hound charged in his direction and Rem stood up, he took note of each and every part of the Rune Hound’s party, determined to not get hit by a surprise attack like before and he shot forward, his body turning into a blur. Rem dodged a slash from the Rune Hound and used Flash movement to get behind the Monster, raising his Shortsword up and bringing it down.

The Rune Hound screamed in pain as it’s tail was cut off by Rem.
