Reborn as a Landlord-Chapter 1675 - 855: The Helpless Extras
Extra Chapter, seeking support.
With just a few words, Lady Zhou assigned Lian Shouli a task to escort Lian Lanlan and make a round trip to Jinyang County Town.
Lian Shouli didn’t dare to defy Lady Zhou’s instructions. He immediately agreed, "Ah," but his eyes turned toward Old Master Lian.
"What are you thinking blindly!" Old Master Lian frowned, giving Lady Zhou a glance. "There’s not that much to do."
"You go search outside again. Don’t just search our village, but also check around the places like the town, Zhao Family Village, and West Village." After rebutting Lady Zhou, Old Master Lian instructed Lian Shouren, Lian Shouli, and Lian Jizu, "It’s broad daylight, and there are people outside. Ask around more; maybe someone has seen Si Lang."
Old Master Lian meant that there’s no need to worry about Lian Lanlan; the family members capable of going out should focus on finding Si Lang again.
However, Lady Zhou was unwilling to compromise.
"Old Three going to the county town isn’t that also part of searching for Si Lang?" Lady Zhou faced Old Master Lian, sitting cross-legged on the kang, her head and neck stretched forward, her eyes wide open, "Si Lang works in the town; isn’t it possible to go into the town? Just have Old Three check on Lanlan and the others on the way back. What’s wrong with that? Can’t you allow it?"
"Is the daughter only mine? Don’t act like I can’t see through it; you resent Lanlan too, don’t you? You wish she would lose the shop and whatnot to Si Lang, and that would make you happy! A few lives of Lanlan’s family aren’t worth a grandson who doesn’t practice witchcraft to you! Luo Baocai gives you liquor every year, has it all gone into a dog’s stomach?"
Today, Old Master Lian was particularly polite to Luo Baocai and Lian Lanlan. Others might not have noticed anything, but Lady Zhou, who had lived with Old Master Lian for decades, detected something different.
Old Master Lian had grown distant from Lian Lanlan and was reluctant to see her anymore.
"Let’s talk about serious matters; what are you babbling on about?" Old Master Lian had been tolerating Lady Zhou, but her words made him quite aggravated, "Si Lang isn’t your biological grandson. If anything happened to Si Lang, could you live with it? Aren’t you afraid of seeing ghosts in the middle of the night? Why do you keep slipping a cleaver under your pillow?"
Old Master Lian, too, was furious, revealing Lady Zhou’s shortcomings in front of their children and grandchildren.
Exposed, Lady Zhou’s guilt didn’t manifest in weakness but in a more defiant rebound.
"... You old bastard, if it weren’t for your uselessness, would I be afraid of anything?" Lady Zhou cursed at Old Master Lian, but her fear was nonetheless overwhelming; even she couldn’t carry on as if nothing happened, "What should I be afraid of? I’m not afraid of anything. At my age, I’ve seen it all. If there are ghosts, let them come—big or small, old or young. While alive, I didn’t fear them; why should I fear them now? Bring one, and I’ll chop one with a cleaver; bring a pair, and I’ll chop a pair!"
Though Lady Zhou spoke tough, she couldn’t help but be afraid inside, and though she kept her back straight, her shoulders slightly shrugged.
Lian Shouren, Lian Shouli, and Lian Jizu sat there with their heads down, none of them speaking up. They were accustomed to the arguments between Old Master Lian and Lady Zhou. In this old couple, no matter what topic was being discussed, they could be fine one moment, and at the next, perhaps with just a word, a glance, or even a small gesture, they would bicker.
And when they started arguing, sometimes persuading Old Master Lian could separate the two, but Lady Zhou could hardly be swayed. As long as she hadn’t vented her anger, whatever anyone said, she could seize upon it and start a fierce scolding.
Maybe in other families, arguing would be a significant and exhausting matter, but in the Lian Family Old Mansion, for Lady Zhou, arguing and cursing was almost a daily activity beneficial to both mind and body; it couldn’t be skipped, and the more it happened, the more energized and healthy she became.
"You can handle it, don’t talk to me." Old Master Lian was preoccupied, lacking the energy to continue arguing with Lady Zhou.
Old Master Lian conceded and retreated, while Lady Zhou achieved a great victory, feeling both physically and mentally refreshed.
"... A half-grown boy isn’t a half-grown girl; where hasn’t he been usually? If he’s not causing trouble elsewhere, how could he get into any accident? He left on his own; nobody chased him out." With her mind and body relaxed, Lady Zhou’s tone wasn’t as fiery, "Everyone has already searched several times. When he’s hungry, he’ll come home on his own."
"Going out to search again is fine, so no one can say anything about me, as if I’ve done something wrong. Old Three can still head toward the county town." Lady Zhou added, "Old Three, have you remembered everything I told you?"
