The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 119: Dungeon’s Horror (Part 5)

"The dungeon, is it how you expected to be?" Rem asked Cole whose eyes opened upon hearing Rem’s voice and sighing.

"I’ve been in a dungeon before you know," Cole said and looked at Rem’s gray eyes, "But this one’s been skin-crawling for some reason, there are far too many people and that guy,"

Cole pointed at Tero who was currently conversing with one of his friends.

"He hasn’t stopped throwing scowls my way since we entered the dungeon," Cole said and sighed, "I still don’t know why,"

"Maybe because you don’t have any Soul energy," Rem said. Cole shrugged and Rem walked away, having accomplished his true purpose – avoiding the girls.

The Camp was silent as everyone caught some rest in their various tents, there were three people on shift duty and Rem was amongst them, sitting atop a rock and holding his Shortsword, flipping it around his fingers in boredom.

His senses were still on high alert, engulfing the entire camp area – he would be alerted if something entered his sensing range. He was itching to do something unlike the other two which were patrolling with him.

They were members of the Defensive force and they were complaining at every given point.

"I can’t wait for our shift to be over," The Cavalier said while rubbing his eyes, "No monster’s actually going to be that fucking stupid to attack anyway,"

Rem tensed up, something entered his Sensing range and it was moving toward them at an amazing pace. Rem quickly stood up and began moving forward, gathering momentum with each step – the Monster was aiming for the Cavalier as he had left his guard down.

"Get down!" Rem exclaimed but it was already too late, the Monster appeared like a blur and clamped down on the Man’s neck, ripping off its head and devouring it in one fell swoop. Rem looked at the Female Magus who had joined them for the patrol to see her trembling on her knees, orange liquid drenching her undergarments – She was scared shitless.

’The more people we lose,’ Rem thought, ’The less chances of survival we have, If I leave here now, this Monster will eat her and probably chase after me, and besides it’s much more faster than me in Raw speed,’

Adrenaline pumped through his veins, he was meeting monsters that outmatched his strength – Rem glanced at the name of this Canine-like beast.

’Rune Hound, B-rank’

’B-rank, huh? Yet it was able to move at a speed far much faster than mine and take out this man before I could even react to save him,’ Rem thought while entering an Attacking stance, soul energy flowing into his legs.

’I’ll probably have to utilize Flash movement as well,’ Rem thought as he moved off the ground and in the direction of the Hound which lay atop the Cavalier’s corpse – Before Rem could even reach the Rune Hound, he witnessed it glow in an eerie shade of blue and vanish into thin air only to appear beside Rem with it’s claws cocked back.

’Dangerous,’ Rem thought as his instincts blared in his head, the claws burst forward – all of them aimed for his head but Rem leaned his head to the right and dodged it before spinning around, using all of his gathered momentum for a spinning slash. Before the blade could make contact with the Rune Hound, it vanished into thin air once again.

Rem spun his whole body around and dodged a slash to the thighs, he looked at the Hound’s forehead and saw a certain symbol glowing in blue.

’It was glowing in blue when it first exploded with speed,’ Rem thought as he brought the Shortsword to the forehead of the Rune Hound only for it to vanish but Rem had already expected that, he quickly moved around and stabbed the air just for the Rune Hound to appear right at the spot and take the blow to the forehead.

The rune on it’s forehead deactivated and Rem could see that it was slower than earlier, taking perfect hold of the opportunity, Rem decided to attack with a blitz of attacks coated with soul energy – each time he thrusted the blade forward, it barely managed to make contact with the Rune Hound which proved how fast the Monster was.

But the real Monster on the battlefield was Rem, small grazes started appearing on the white fur of the Rune Wolf and soon Rem landed a full-blown slash despite the Speed difference, the slash succeeded in taking an eye away from the Rune Hound, leaving a vertical slash mark on it’s right eye... The Monster howled in pain while Rem’s eyes glowed.

With time, they were able to capture the pattern of it’s dodges and with that set, Rem landed the attack but it didn’t seem like the Rune Hound was done because a terrifying crimson aura wrapped around it, a shimmering symbol of crimson appeared on it’s forehead and Murderous intent gushed out of the Monster.

Rem shuddered a bit but he quickly regained his senses, clenching his palm around his Shortsword tightly. The Rune Hound moved forward and Rem took in a deep breath, it was moving at it’s normal speed but Rem knew there had to be something to the rune on it’s forehead and he figured it out.

Before the Hound could come any closer, Rem leapt into the air and over the Rune Hound just as the Monster threw a three-clawed slash at the place where he had been before – crimson slashes reflected forward and smashed against the wall, making the surroundings rattle as a result.

’They probably heard that,’ Rem thought while seeing that the Rune Hound had made an advance once again – his eyes let out billowing flames of green soul energy as he moved forward to intercept the Rune Hound, the monster threw the slashes once again but Rem weaved past them and got into the perfect opening to kill the Monster.

’It’s over but why... why do my instincts say otherwise?’ Rem thought as he thrusted his blade forward only for the Rune Hound to bounce on it’s sleek figure and use it to bounce itself into the air before throwing three slashes at point-blank range – something Rem couldn’t hope to avoid.
