Chapter 120: Dungeon’s Horror (Part 6)

Rem was sent skidding backward, his back smashing into a wall and creating a crashing sound loud enough to alert the camp – the Rune Hound landed on the ground only for the dust to clear and reveal Rem who had three vertical slash marks going through his right arm, blood profusely rushing out of his wound.

Rem’s palm only tightened around the weapon as his eyes found the Rune Hound, poised in a combat stance. His eyes kept burning within billowing green soul energy as he pushed off the ground in a burst of Flash movement, closing the distance between himself and the Monster instantly and bringing his Shortsword forward.

The Rune hound barely managed to dodge the slash but it had been a decoy, Rem landed a powerful kick on the head of the Rune Hound and sent the Monster spinning backward through the air but Rem decided to keep the pressure on it, using another burst of Flash movement to close the distance and swing his Shortsword once again, aiming for the Rune Hound’s head but the Monster raised it’s claws upward to meet the slash, sparks flying upon collision...

The Rune Hound quickly spun through the air and regained its footing, the crimson aura bursting to life around it as the rune on it’s forehead shimmered once again, it was prepared for the battle.

’If she hadn’t been watching me, I would have been able to use my full power and not be at such a disadvantage,’ Rem thought but suddenly an arc of terrifying crimson energy shot in the Rune Hound’s direction, The Rune Hound leapt back and was barely able to dodge the strike, showing how fast the Captain’s proficiency was at using this attack. After dodging the arc of energy, it gave a small growl at Rem before the aura around it vanished and it ran away, clearing an intense amount of distance within seconds.

Rem fell onto one knee, his wound bleeding even more now... he would easily be able to heal it right now but they were watching him so he couldn’t. The Magus who he had protected quickly shivered upon seeing Rem’s blood loss. Rem felt someone land in front of him and began saying a small chant, soon after, Rem felt a pulsating warmth wrap around his wounds.

"You really thought you could face a Rune Hound off yourself?" The Healer reprimanded him, "You were supposed to call for help and assistance – Beasts like that aren’t something an Apprentice can handle,"

It took a lot more time than expected to heal it up as the wounds were deep and had even grazed some veins but Rem was good to go in some minutes as the others had finished scouting the area for any nearby Monsters.

"You did good holding your own against the Rune Hound," The Healer said, "Keep up the good work,"

And then the healer walked away, leaving Rem debating with himself silently. He looked back at the Magus which had collapsed on the ground and with the last bits of energy he had, Rem began heading to his tent for some brief moments of rest before the next day in the dungeon would begin.

Rem felt refreshed as he stood alongside the Apprentices, he yawned a bit. Even though they hadn’t slept for that long, he was still energized and ready to go. They kept moving in a single formation, there were only 4 members of the Defensive force now and they were spread thin, trying to defend the Apprentices from any sort of danger.

They had been moving for almost an hour now and there hadn’t been anything other than little monsters, Goblins and Deathwolves – Monsters that were extremely easy for the Attacking force to do away with but after the silence for the Past hour, something was finally happening.

The party noticed a pack of Hellhounds coming at them from in front and the Captain perked up, Hellhounds were most dangerous in packs.

"Prepare for battle!" He exclaimed while planting his feet into the ground and bringing his sword back, cladding it in Crimson soul energy and sending several slashes forward at the pack of Hellhounds that were steadily advancing toward them.

The Hellhounds aware of the dangers behind this attack and so they focused their Sonic voices at the slashes, pausing them mid-air... with the continual exposure to sound vibrations, the arcs detonated into shockwaves of Soul energy and each Hellhound ran through them effortlessly, the Sound waves had reached the party now and the Apprentices were forced to put their hands against their ears, well except for some certain people who could withstand the sound.

Tero’s eyes gleamed as he stretched his arm out, several explosions went off around the pack of Hellhounds – some explosions even attacking the center of their formation and this was enough to disorient them, Tero snapped his fingers and a massive explosion was triggered in the center of their wrecked formation.

’My magic focuses on the destructive atoms that exist in the air,’ Tero thought as he triggered yet another large explosion, causing the ground to vibrate, ’Wherever I see a destructive atom, I can trigger and hasten it’s detonation by applying magic and all of this is made possible by my eyes,’

His eyes were able to pick up even the slightest destructive elements and with that, he could apply magic and detonate although the only kind of particles he could manipulate to explode were the free ones – not ones that existed within a living body.

With this opening, The Captain moved forward, sending multiple slashes through the air – each of them now hitting their mark as the Hellhounds were disoriented by the explosions currently happening, several Hellhounds were slaughtered by the arcs of crimson but that wasn’t the end of the attacks.

The Magus of the Attacking force began shooting their respective attacks, killing Hellhounds one by one in an effort to harvest their Magic stones – a tough Hellhound rushed forward, tanking a powerful explosion that had been made by Tero, tanking several sizzling bolts of lightning, tanking several crimson balls of flames and even several thorns, arriving in front of the Captain and letting out a roar, madness in it’s eyes.

But with a single diagonal slash, the Hellhound was killed... The blood of the Hellhound sprinkled from the air as the Beastkin’s body and battle armor as he tucked his sword into it’s sheath silently.

Author’s Note:

The Rune Hound is a peculiar monster though, utilizing Runes to use different kinds of buffs – that was really cheating but Rem dealt with it, let’s hope Rem has a chance to get back!
