Chapter 103: Helpless Struggle

As Ruby sighted the spider, she felt her insides shrink – the murderous intent pressed down upon her and made her breathing hard. She barely managed to glance at Rem who seemed to be taking in the effects of the murderous intent as well.

Ruby felt a hand slide over her nose and press down, then she felt another one go over her waist and before she knew it, she was heaved into the air. The captain carried her out of the small opening in the door and threw her to the other side of the wall with a resounding thud.

The door shut behind them and Ruby staggered upward, Rem was not amongst them and the looks in their eyes had changed... they seemed lustful.

’I knew it,’ Ruby thought with a frown, ’But Rem... he was left in there by himself, he is going to die!’

She tried to extend a root toward the door but the Captain slashed it apart with a single swing.

’My roots are tough, they can’t be cut by a simple Magic iron sword,’ Ruby thought as the party advanced toward her, ’Is he a Fake-grader?’

Not even Henry could slash apart her roots with his magic Iron sword, they were tough... and this man hadn’t even added soul energy to the strike.

The boss suddenly screeched, a screech loud enough to force all members of the party to shut their ears. Ruby decided to exploit this opening by muttering a chant and firing a Mini-sun into the air, the Mini-sun surged through the air only for it to be detonated by a powerful ball of flame, coming from the Fire magus on the other party.

’Fuck, he has the perfect counter to my grass element,’ Ruby thought as she tried to stand up, her knees bucked...

"You can choose to do it willingly," The captain’s voice echoed, "Or we’ll do it forcefully – anyone you choose will benefit us,"

Ruby knew that she didn’t have a choice here, even if she did manage to beat them – she’d still have to get through the boss to leave this place. Her eyes flashed and she stomped her feet on the ground, multiple roots shooting out with spikes in them...

’I won’t give up,’ Ruby thought as she staggered upward, the roots all converging on the party. With a single crimson slash, the roots were cut apart and a blur rushed at her.

’I have to time this...’ Ruby thought as a sword was upon her, she pulled out a dagger from within her cloak and raised it upward – clashing with the sword mid-air. Sparks shot out from the blades as they continued hitting against each other mid-air, this wasn’t the Captain, it was one of the Cavaliers.

The cavalier withdrew his blade and moved it diagonally to slash her waist but Ruby moved out of the way and stabbed the Cavalier in the head. The stab didn’t connect as the Cavalier moved his head back, instead he brought his foot forward but Ruby stomped it down and ducked, stabbing him right in the stomach.

’Fortunately he isn’t wearing armor,’ Ruby thought as the Cavalier groaned in pain, Before he could even think to retaliate, a root slammed into his side and sent him careening through the air before lodging him in the rocky wall of the dungeon.

"You really are skilled, that’ll make the struggle more interesting," Ruby heard the captain say as multiple slashes made of soul energy shot toward her, threatening to engulf her but Ruby raised her right palm upward as multiple walls of root appeared in front of her. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

The slashes cut through them but Ruby had already run out of the way, her eyes on the magus as he fired more balls of fire – she didn’t bother wasting her magical energy on trying to defend herself from the fireballs as they would instantly burn through the roots.

Instead she focused magical energy below her and created a root that sprung her into the air, dodging all of the fireballs with ease. Ruby flipped mid-air and another root appeared on the ceiling, thrusting her down toward the ground.

Ruby landed on the ground and eyed the party, roots springing up from below them – the roots bouncing them into the air and interrupting the spell that the Fire Magus was charging.

’All I have to do is to outlast them,’ Ruby thought, eventually they would run out of magic and soul energy while for her, if she expended little of her magic like this – she would be able to not only interrupt their attacks but also wi-

A kick landed in her gut, it was a powerful one and the Magus felt her insides rattle.

’How did he...’ She glimpsed at the captain who was the one that kicked her, her body was flung backward and her back lodging into the wall. The Captain walked over and gripped her hair with a smile on his face.

"They always struggle but in the end... the result is always the same,’ He said with a devilish grin.

"B-b-boss?"

The mutter echoed through the air before it was permanently silenced, the captain looked down on the hand groping her hair only to find it on the ground... slashed away from his body.

Blood profusely dropped from the wound, painting the ground below it in a trickling pool of crimson. He couldn’t move his body or speak, no matter how hard he tried to... a thick murderous intent was in the air, making him immobile.

The captain moved his head after straining for a while and his eyes went to his fallen comrades, their bodies covered in their own blood – he had only gripped Ruby’s hair for some seconds... they had been decimated in the same amount of seconds.

The culprit of this massacre was there, standing menacingly and looking at him – his body covered in a mix of blue and crimson blood but his gray lifeless eyes staring down the Captain.

His lips quivered as pain surged through his entire body...

"M-m-m- Monster!!!"
